Now that is just hurtful.

Been a UM FB fan since MSU/UM game 1969 (they lost) when I went sports crazy and finally understood the game and collected the 4 major sports trading cards, etc.

Didn't behave myself (shocker) scholastically and a WMU education it was. Had tickets/attended the WMU/UM Big House postposed 911 game and was along the tunnel 10 rows back wearing UM gear surrounded by Bronco fans and teased endlessly the whole time by my wife. No, I only root for UM even against my alma mater as the lifelong fan pre-dating college attendance. Like Doug Karsch.

I thought part of the reason OU/TX to the SEC was able to happen in 2024 was those series' staying on the schedule and making the broadcast partners happy.

It makes no sense to cancel those games in the expanded playoff era. Win and you're almost guaranteed a CFP spot if you don't fall apart in the conference schedule. Loss, and you have a great "name" loss that you can recover from.

UTEP needs to move to the MWC prior to 2026.  It could theoretically happen (say, San Diego State to the Pac-12 and UTEP is a MWC backfill).

That way U-M can extend their kind of bizarre (it's not a criticism, I get it, you find "buy games" where you can) streak of playing MWC opponents to 5 consecutive years.

CSU & Hawaii 2022, UNLV 2023, Fresno State 2024, New Mexico 2025, UTEP (not MWC) 2026.

I wish schools still did that.  Schools playing at Hawaii has dropped off a lot in the last 15-20 years.

Hawaii is building a new stadium these days --- hopefully it gets finished before 2040 (seriously, the process is a mess).  They're playing in a 9000-seat stadium (!!!) in the meantime.  So it admittedly makes less sense in the immediate term.

Not sure if you’re aware of it, but there’s an amazing story of two football teams traveling to Hawaii and getting caught in the Pearl Harbor attacks. This is a really good read if you have the time (on my phone so I can’t type good enough to summarize the story).

Nice story, thanks for sharing.  No, I had not heard of that before.

I do recall hearing that Hawaii had never played a game outside of either Hawaii or the Pacific Time Zone until 1948, when they travelled all the way to East Lansing.  That's one long trip, especially then.  Travel and building a schedule has never been overly easy for them.

It would be unusual for a true freshman to "outperform" a solid, upperclassman QB - like Ewers, having only been on campus for a couple of months.   So, Manning's Spring Game performance doesn't surprise me.

I don't have a horse in the race.  But, I do with there were some guidelines the NCAA would establish for official visits - and, associated costs.  Texas spent 280K on Manning's official visit to Texas.  To me, this is a ridiculous sum of money.

It will be fun to see whether Manning, as a sophomore, is the starting QB for Texas when they visit the Big House.

As others have pointed out - this makes the '24 schedule a bit more interesting.

When will the B1G release the conference schedule for next season?

Texas next year (2024) along with USC/UCLA additions? I'm sure we'll get at least one of the two California schools, even if it isn't at home. That should make for an interesting schedule.

Makes this year's schedule a little easier to take knowing there is light at the end of the tunnel.

wmu is good in state mac support.  also good with M playing texas and texas el paso.  for texans it's gonna feel like getting slapped with double indemnity and then not hitting your drive past the ladies tee.  Unless things unravel on us, I'll take Michigan big in all these tilts.

So in terms of Power 5/Super 2, we are hosting UT and OU in '24 and '26 respectively (when we travel to OSU), and visit them in '25 and '27 (when we're hosting OSU). And we are traveling to Washington in '28, altho I have a feeling we may try to move that to an odd year so we can host a major opponent in '28.

I'm guessing we can say that non-OSU home years will feature MSU in the Big House too. Penn State will likely not be an annual opponent.

This is good.

The flip side is that we only have 6 home games in 2025 and 2027, and 8 home games in 2024 and 2026. Given how many non-con series (Arkansas, VT, UCLA) we've ostensibly cancelled to maintain a 7-game home schedule, it's kind of incredible that this still keeps getting screwed up. Idk if Dave Brandon, Warde, the Big Ten, or some combo of the three is to blame, but I hope they schedule more carefully going forward.
