Vs the usual back n forth "yeah he did // no he didn't," I think this post hits the nail on the head... He wasn't trying to complete a pass, he was trying to avoid a sack [and was in the pocket].  YES if JJ threw this ball, I'd be SUPER pissed... at JJ for not putting it where he needed to to avoid the grounding call.

I agree... while the league may be guys hoping for a shot at the bigs, it would be better if a league like this was more closely & formally tied to the NFL.  Call it D League or AAA or whatever... if we were watching UFAs or others playing with some affiliation with the teams or divisions we love, they'd probably see more asses in the seats.

Guessing you have TSIO & StatePenn at 1 & 2, I'm thinking the rest fall something like @MSU is 4th (because they'll throw every/anything at this game), @Md (irrespective of month, potentially a dangerous offense in a trap situation) is 5th, & MAYBE @Neb at 6th (either the Huskers or Goldy, tough to say).

So we're all sleeping on the big bad Boilers, the defending B1G West Champs?  /s

I think UM is a team still on the rise.  JJ's best day is ahead of him.  If they continue to improve (and over the next four games, they SHOULD), UM could win big & Blake should be striking The Pose on one of his multiple TD runs.

Then again, if this is as good as UM gets, it is likely to be one of those 45-41 heartbreakers.

Bringing Paul back home will be a great start to the 2nd third of the season.  Go Blue!

Like many of you, I have…

Like many of you, I have been "doing this" for years.  I cut my teeth on the 10-year war and was raised in a world where TTDS was hated BUT respected.  For perspective.  My old man, who remembered the Bump & Oosterbaan years very well,  told me (often) that fans my age were spoiled.  While I questioned his "take" on that as the ND's and Miami's of the world won the Natty while we couldn't get a W in Pasadena, I saw the truth in 2008.  The world had changed and everything sucked and we wished for a time when we could have a Bo/Mo/Llo type of coach back in AA... as if that was the key to winning a title.  I mean, THAT is what we brought JH here for, right?  The expectation was a 5-year plan to be nationally competitive, correct?  Based on WHAT?

What gave ANY of us the idea that this program (irrespective of HC or AD) was among the elites in the modern era?  Because we ran through a conference that has long been a "big 2, little 8" occasional challenge?  Beat ND, beat OSU, & don't trip over *FITB* trap game.  And how many times has that ever happened in YOUR lifetime?  In your parents' lifetimes?  Seriously.  I get it.  I get it all.  How many National Championship hopes died in September with an ND loss and our "consolation" was to still win the conference... run the table the rest of the way and finish with 1 loss and MAYBE we'd get a solid Pac10 opponent & MAYBE we'd finish in the top-5 nationally?  Beat OSU became our mantra and for the past 20 years (not 5 or 10 but two full decades) we are nearly incapable of doing so.  2 wins in two decades and any suggestion that it should be included in a conversation of the  "greatest rivalry in sports" is a punchline.  Why does TTDS still award gold pants for a W?

We weren't THAT great in our Bo years to begin with.  Seriously.  Solid, yes.  Among the most consistently good, yes.  "More winning" than we are now, yes.  Did they have one or two "unlucky" teams who never got their shot?  Meh, OK... I'll allow it.  But is THAT the most recent measuring stick?  50 years ago?  We harken back to an entirely different era-- almost an entirely different GAME, philosophically.  Two Tight Ends and a balanced line as Ufer often noted.  Or are we going with the wild-ass flukey as hell one year where we surrounded a once-in-two-generations superman with a solid enough team to roll through a weak conference and beat Wazzu in the Rose Bowl?  Is that our "but but but" moment?  Yes, blind squirrels find acorns and the storied program of UofM finally got their first [shared] Natty since WWII.  You know who have uncontested unshared NC's since Michigan's last undisputed outright title?   Pitt has one.  Nebraska has a few.  Syracuse!  BeeWhyFrikkinYou.  MARYLAND ffs.  Yeah, 1953... look it up.  Of course that doesn't count the numerous schools you'd expect on this list including several who have multiple trophies in their case.  We know all those names already and *spoler alert* we are not among them.

But these posts... so much to unwrap here.  I agree that JH's tenure is not trending favorably at all.  And I agree that there are opportunities for improvement.  But the Covid/Asterisk season is the one where the AntiHarbs Party is going to double?  Cmon.  If you were beating the FireHarbaugh drum a year ago, that's a different argument and I'm sure you can render an argument to support what I think is flawed.  But how do you use this past "season" as fuel for that fire?  Sheer nonsense.

The speculation about where Jim is looking for work, what his plans are for the future, why the contract extension process is slogging, etc.  That is ridiculous.  Nothing more.  Things are not going the way YOU want or on YOUR timeline and you speculate that the reasons are this or the other thing.  Shh.  Let the process play out.  I have been on both ends of contracting and while we all would like to know what is what beyond 2021, there are numerous causes that delay getting a deal done ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE IS STILL AN ACTIVE/CURRENT/VALID DEAL in the works.  Jim has market value AND he has deep personal connection with his employer.  The job also has a market value AND a deep personal connection with its employee.  There is a way people want this to go and there is a business side to all of it as well.  If the alleged proposed contract is, in fact, structured as described, there is not only good reason for that structure BUT there is also a LOT to consider on both sides.  No apologies if this all doesn't go down on your schedule.  Anyone who works daily in complication understands the gravity.  Going part & parcel with all of THAT is the question of who is the best fit at DC for Jim & his program.  If nothing else, bare minimum, Jim and John Harbaugh know Macdonald & what he can bring to the table.  I hope we sign them both quickly to deals that both sides feel are good deals.

And while I stand briefly on this soapbox, let me call on my Maize n Blue family to check your standards.  Look at your bar.  Set a reasonable expectation.  Do I WANT a Natty?  I want at least FIVE in the next 10 years.  Yes I want to remind MSU what it means to be a little brother and I want that ALL the time.  Do I want the matchup at the end of November to be what it was in the 20th Century?  Yep... in fact I hope Day has seen his last W against UM ever and his inability to beat UM eventually costs him both his job and his sanity.  And do I want UM to go into the conference title game heralded as the favorite and looking at a 1-seed in the CFP?  Do I?  Go Effing Blue!  But those are hopes... stretch goals... based on idealized potential outcomes.  They aren't based on anything I have ever seen with ANY consistency and that includes during the tenures of men who have buildings named after them and statues erected in their honor.  Our greatest coach of the modern era did a ton for this program (kudos, sure) but his resume' highlights include going slightly better than .500 against his biggest rival and winning 2 Rose Bowls in 10 appearances (in an era when beating Woody and winning the Rose Bowl were really the only things UM was expected to do).  You might need to come to grips with the idea that UM (operating a unique program of high standards for integrity and academics in the north) is going to win 8-10 games each season; in his five complete seasons, that is what Harbaugh has delivered.  You want more?  Make Urban an offer & see where that gets us.

OR Harbaugh doesn't have any…

OR Harbaugh doesn't have any real interest in coaching in the NFL again (or leaving Michigan) and made no sincere attempt to do so.

Its a milestone but I don't…

Its a milestone but I don't know how much it matters at this point in the season.  Having said that, 25th-ish seems about right (maybe a 5 or 6-seed projection?)

They've beaten Nobody and have made mistakes that WILL be costly if repeated when they play Somebody.  This team could be 4-2 right now with one of those loses to a team that hasn't otherwise won a game this season, so I don't know where all the "This is BS... we should be ranked higher" blowback is coming from. Let's see if they can win a couple conference games on the road that they "should" win.

This team is going to have some shining moments and will be included in "don't sleep on these guys" conversations; they're also going to lose a few while fans cringe in frustration over some Senior making Sophomore-level mistakes.
