Adam Schefter says UM has no IPads?

Submitted by toomer18 on
On sports center this morning Schefter says that Michigan has one of the smallest support staffs, and the players don't get iPads. So these might be reasons not to come. Plus UM doesn't use a private jet for recruiting. True statements? Don't see IPad's being a factor.

school. He was in a lot of ways but I'll believe the jet story when I see proof. There is no way all the coaches were running to all these small towns using non private jets. Just as Magnus said below that he knows the Michigan players had IPads.

People are saying that our facilities aren't up to standard also but Sam Webb has said that's bullshit with the exception of the weight room which needs to be upgraded.

Please don't feed the trolls.

What's next?

"Harbaugh will be considering the unemployment rate of Michigan, the average temperature and precipitation of Michigan, the median income of Ann Arbor, the average credit score of registered voters, the fact they are Adidas and not Nike, when looking at the field sometimes the "M" looks like a "W" which can be confusing, players have access to 2% or skim but not whole milk..."

Is it a coaching job?  Does he get paid?  Does he have office and a desk in said office?  Does he have access to a store where he can buy khakis?  Yes?  Ok then.

Let's say for arguments sake that they don't.. Pretty sure one of the donors or MGoUser or another human being associated with the university could find them a good deal on 100+ iPads.. Come on.. Private jet? Who cares about that?

I'm SUUUURE a private plane and iPad stock will be covered lol. In fact, I think we have both already. The FB team doesn't use them on game day but I think they have them overall for study. Also, I'm kind if sure that we've used private planes to recruit since Bo era, definitely Carr.

What the hell does it matter if UM football didn't have Ipads before Harbaugh (or any new coach) gets here?   If Harbaugh wants his team to have Ipads, or more support staff  they'll get them.

I was listening to ESPN Radio last night in the car (Sedano and Stink). I don't know why I do that - it encourages road rage on my part and serves no useful purpose.

Anyway, they were doubling down on their serious doubts whether there was any truth to the rumored offer of 6/48. Even allowing that it could be true, they continued to maintain that there was very little likelihood that Harbaugh would come back to Michigan. After all, it's COLD here, and "17 and 18 year olds don't want to play in the COLD!"

What most infuriates me is that if this had been Florida or any of the other ESS EEE CEE teams making this offer, it would have been made Exhibit A for why that conference is the bestest, most awesomely awesome conference EVER!

Asshats. All of them.

I never understood the "cold" argument either.

If a college football player has his sights on the NFL, he would need to learn how to play in the cold. The NFL regular season runs through late December for all teams, and potentially through early February for NFL teams. There are a lot of open air stadiums in "cold" cities in the NFL.

Besides that, in the Big Ten, the regular season ends in late November. The average high temperature in late November, in Ann Arbor, is nearly 50 degrees.

His credibility is also taking a hit with his baseless statements.  I realize everyone quotes the guy because he has inside contacts throughout the NFL, but he could actually improve his stature if he just came out and admitted that he doesn' t know what the hell is going on.

He's also hurting the program by stating these falsehoods as lackeys around the country that don't know any better believe his drivel.

Hopefully he shuts up soon, but not before taking a minute to admit he was wrong and knows nothing.

I've also been told that recent cutbacks will leave coordinators and assistants diagramming plays on a large slab using only a stylus and hammer and that the message board outside the stadium will be replaced with a Lite Brite that has only a chandelier bulb in it. Some of the support staff were also seen at a Western Union office trying to get some important telegrams to recruits too. Tough times indeed.

Schefter is going to report that Michigan supplies one-ply toilet paper and tree leaves for players to use in the locker rooms and prints it's diplomas on cardboard. I can understand Schefter not buying into Harbaugh coming here, but stop trying to sell the public on garbage points that IMO will never be a factor in JH's decision to come and coach at UM. Seriously!? I know it's his opinion, but, I thought he was better than that. This sounds like a Football Scoop post.

Funny. Yesterday he was on DC espn radio (i.e., before news of the offer broke) and he said (paraphrasing) that whereas he hadn't given any credence to JH goin to UM earlier, he now wasn't ready to dismiss it as a possibility.

That was progress. This is a regression. I increasingly want Harbaugh to Michigan to happen almost as much to rub it in the NFL's face as I do for the obvious. The reporting by Schefter and his NFL beat comrades is getting beyond obnoxious.

Saw that this morning, IMO he just came across as an NFL mouthpiece saying that his resources would be lacking if he were at M and therefore it was a long shot. He ended saying of course Michigan fans would be ecstatic to have him.

And technically here, he's correct, Michigan is not one of them (Bama, Zone, Clemson, Florida, Iowa, KSU, Michigan St, Minnesota, Nebraska, OSU, Oklahoma, PSU, Purdue, and Texas all do; aTm has a helicopter).

However, this is very much because Michigan doesn't need to purchase it's own private jet. It's wasted money. They are close to a major airport, they have big donors in a near-by city, and they aren't recruiting in a ton of small-town areas. Also, Michigan's recruiting budget is over $1m a year, which is in the top 10, getting to places isn't an issue.

So the private jet thing isn't an issue. If Harbaugh wanted to make use of a private jet, it's almost certain someone would supply him with one outside of the athletic department.

And the lack of iPad thing is bunk, as is the minimal support staff. Not that those come up when talking $8m/year anyway.

Is it me or is the Harbaugh thing getting a ton of rotation this morning? Was it this big on Espn yesterday? I'm just afraid that all of this exposure may force a knee-jerk response from JH.

Summary: Breaking News last night on espn about the offer Michigan made to Harbaugh. Stated that two weeks ago it was not possible that he would consider the U of M and reported that Jim Harbaugh is considering the offer and it is possible that he might go back to his Alma Mater. Though they still add unlikely at the end.

We'll pay 48 mil for a coach but not 50K for ipads if he wants them??  Lokk at it this way...  any team that has ipads will have OLDER ones than our when jimmy rolls onto campus..  Yay us!!

Schefter is a moron.. no doubt.

It's a good thing for Adam the world has forgotten him driving the Harbaugh will br Michigan's coach in 2010, otherwise people may realize he has bad/no sources in the AD and the Harbaugh camp.

This sounds like another desperate atempt to find an excuse for Harbaugh not to come to Michigan. Espn and the national media along these "NFL insiders" who claim they know he wants to stay in the NFL have no idea what there talking about. The only people who actually know what there talking about are people like Harbaugh himself and people in the search commitee and other people close to the university.

I am amazed that a guy with Michigan ties - he has a f*cking winged helmet on the wall behind him in every talking head shot - would be regurgitating such drivel and irrelevant information in this coaching search.  I'm sure it's his job to do so, but you'd think the NFL would have figured out by now that they are pretty bad at PR, and stuff like this doesn't help that image one bit.
