I have literally no idea why you try to antagonize people around here yet proclaim to love Michigan sports and spend an inordinate amount of time here.

EDIT:  Upon further read, if this wasn't intended to be condescending but was instead a reference to yourself not knowing something, then I retract my comment about antagonizing people.

Maybe I (and others) overreacted, but given WD's penchant for starting fights around here I think short, somewhat-flippant posts are going to get a bit of a reaction.  I will apologize if his statement was innocuous, though.  I guess I read a bit much into the "lol" part of it.

Depends who you talk to. Certain users on this board didn't like him at all and contributed much of our underperformance to him. Other's thought he was just as good as anyone else. In the end I lean towards liking Tolbert better since he worked under Turley, who is considered the best in the business and we apparently almost got.

I'm happy for a change in direction with our new S & C coach.  I'm not sure if what I perceived as a lack of toughness, injuries, slow development of linemen and second half malaise are fully attribuatable to the S & C coach, but there had to be some contribution.

I'm happy to be going in a different direction with Harbaugh's new S & C coach.

"Those teams always faded, too"

Except Wisconsin 2008 (20-6 in the 4th quarter), ND in 2009, ND in 2010, the 67-65 game to Illinois in 2010...

I get that Michigan has underperformed (versus expectation of the position and versus expectation of team results) since Lloyd retired. But the absolute certainty the "always" statements and attribution is a bit much.

I'm no RichRod defender but I respect Barwis and what he has achieved professionally. It's not an accident he is retained by professional teams and is succuessful.

Coaching, scheme (or lack of coherent one defensively for RR) and recruited talent had far more to say about Rod's results than S&C imho.

Molk, Hemingway, van Bergen, mike martin and a few others were not rich rods players. We still had Carr players on homes best team that were our upperclassmen

I'm certainly not an expert on S/C but I remember Hoke mentioning several times and giving credit to Wellman for being a pioneer of sorts to the GPS aspect of injury prevention/maintenance. I want to say we even hired someone from Australia that is an expert in that specific field of monitoring GPS movements. I believe the idea is making sure that players aren't putting too much stress on joints by favoring certain body parts to overcompensate for other injuries. I remember Hoke talking about them monitoring Jake Butt in that regard with the GPS and then mentioning that they thought through what the receivers do in practice because Chesson or Darboh had run something like 8 miles in practice. Does anyone know if we retained that Australian or the GPS monitoring philosophy? Hoke mentioned they were sort of cutting edge and leading the way in the BigTen in that regard.

I don't know what Michigan is using right now, but GPS is not cutting edge. It has been around for 10 years for tracking athlete movements during practice. Cutting edge is using a combination of GPS and Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) with novel algorithms to interpret the big data being collected. For some related video, check out:

Work at Michigan to get more biomechanical data out of the sensors:

That is state of the art. I would be interested to know what our new strength and conditioning coach starts using.
