My wife forced me to go on a walk with her in the snow, which ended up more like a 45-minute stomping silent tantrum. I...am a child.

He wanted them to foul. The announcers heard him shouting it out during the telecast.
Fans act sometimes like the coach has total control over what his players do. He doesn't. Sometimes they screw up.

Sure, they should be able to. But given that the team was literally two seconds away from being the #1-ranked team in the country, I don't think Beilein has a problem communicating with them. I chalk this one up to a simple brain fart.

So fouling Burst, who got his shot off with a good second to spare, would have given Wiscy the ball out of bounds at half-court with ~1.5-2.0 seconds to go. And within range of a normal catch-and-shoot three point shot.
A miracle three-point runner trumps strategy. I think the chance of making three free throws from the next foul on the ensuing play would be greater than the chance of making that prayer.

Good lord. Beilein resurrects the program and people question the coaching because Wisconsin managed to make a contested 40 foot shot.

The thing is fouling isn't a 100% foolproof solution either. Foul them, now they're inbounding at half court and have a decent chance at an even better shot, never mind if they manage to get into the act of shooting while getting fouled. I've seen other people mentioning putting a defender on the inbounder as if that can't give up even better shots. And sometimes the other team doesn't let your players do what you told them to do. The coaching limited them to a really low percentage shot, but sometimes shit happens. Criticizing the coaching after that is looking at the results instead of the process when no process is 100% foolproof.

If they were to do it over again, I'd take giving up that heave over giving Wiscy an effective timeout (clock stoppage) and the ball at half-court with ~1.5-2.0 seconds to go.

The play you linked to is incredibly unlikely to happen. They basically threw the ball up and hoped someone caught it. If you tried that 100 times, I'd bet you'd convert 2 or 3. On the other hand, allowing an uncontested pass to center court to a player in stride allows a pretty good look. College players can make near half-court shots. We've seen it twice under JB, and it's pretty inexcusable.

made a half court shot to push it to OT, how can you question coaching on that? If the foul they had was to put them on the line then you foul the first person you see. JB should take no heat from that.
They made a clutch shot and took that momentum into OT.

I am more upset about our weak perimeter defense all game which allowed them to get one good look after another.

Ace, I am so glad you moved his face down. I had to make myself not look at the main part of the page when I was checking the boards.
I never want to see that skeleton again. F*CK them always hitting half court shots on us

Good grief, Big Ten Basketball. The muppets seem like so long ago...alright, on to Tuesday-and a date with Sparty.

Kansas doesn't suck, but they aren't that good. They should definitely be outside the top 12 now. Honestly, Indiana, Michigan, and Duke are the top 3 teams IMO; with Florida, Gonzaga, and Miami composing the second tier. Arizona could make a case to be in the second tier group of teams but they looked non-competitive at home against UCLA.

I'm getting sick and fucking tired of away game refs, and shut the fuck up Dakich about how the refs missing 20-some fouls against us is great officiating. Every time we took it to the hoop we got fouled, they didnt call a single one. Worst officiating Ive seen all season which is impressive.

I was this week. Are you watching me?
February 9th, 2013 at 8:20 PM ^
is it me or does anyone else feel the same way I do? Everytime Michigan loses especially the close losses at Ohio, today, bowl game, ND, and Neb. That I don't want to do anything productive the rest of the day and rather just sleep it off. I hate losing more than anything maybe its me being so competitive but I don't take it that well.

the no calls by the refs, coaching is the reason we lost today. Not having someone guard the inbound pass is unacceptable. Given there was only 2.6 seconds on the clock and you want to foul when the ball gets in bounds why would you setup at almost mid court and not put a man on the person inbounding the ball. We're just lucky that Levert didn't foul because it would have been a four point play and there would not have been an OT.

Don't worry Burke. One game, when it really matters like in the NCAA tournament, you are going to make that shot. No one will care about the ones you miss in the regular season. Then we will mentally high five.
