Michigan Not Selected For NIT Comment Count

Ace

Michigan did not make the 32-team field of the NIT, which was revealed in somewhat excruciating fashion over the last half-hour on ESPNU. John Beilein has already ruled out an appearance in the CBI or CIT tournaments, so this marks the end of the 2014-15 season. It will not be missed too much.

Gotta reward the fighting Illinois and that great performance they had in their last game.

I guess you gotta just accept this wasn't Michigan's year.  In anything.  Except coaching searches.

"John Beilein has already ruled out an appearance in the CBI or CIT tournaments"

Not quite accurate.  The CIT already ruled us out because...we're not a mid-major.  So basically all he did was say we're not going to the CBI, since we'll never be eligible for the CIT.

I don't understand why we're 'too good' for the CBI, though.  It's not like we can't afford it; and it's not like we can't use some more experience.  Heck, Walton might be back by the championship--and the CBI has that as a best-of-3 series which is pretty cool.

Is it because it's just been a trés long year for everyone what with preseason touring et al.?

Yeah, I don't get it either, it would be like turning down a bowl game and saying 'no thank you, we don't need anymore practices and game experience.'  We're a super young team that can use all the experience it can get, it's not like our roster is full of seniors that are gone after this year.  Plus I could always go for more basketball to watch.

Sorry. .I don't know about you..but I will miss Spike driving and making magical shoots..and freshman playing better than expected. .Go Blue. .next year!

This team didn't deserve to play any extra basketball anyways. Losses to NJIT and Eastern, while healthy, showed this team was garbage. Next year we should be in the NIT tho.

Right, because calling the team garbage is just being realistic.  You couldn't possibly have picked a different adjective.

Or how about a few weeks ago when you said you were "embarassed to be a Michigan fan." Was that just you being realistic as well?

I think what most people would disagree with is your calling a team that has achieved a winning record in one of the top conferences in America "garbage". Even if they lost most of their games miserably, they're still college kids who have put in an unbelievable amount of work and number of hours, of which we see only the tiniest part. For that reason, you would do well to choose a word other than "garbage" to describe the team. I have no idea what you do for a living, but you probably work hard, and you probably fall short of stellar, like most of us. You probably wouldn't appreciate others calling your efforts "garbage".

I'm guessing most of us don't watch Michigan like a movie critic. Probably more like - depending on our ages - a younger sibling, an older sibling, or a parent. No parent I know has ever called his kid's genuine effort at something, no matter how pathetic the results, "garbage" (let alone calling the kid himself garbage, which is what you did). It is usually possible to be honest and tactful - even kind - at the same time.

In your expert opinion, this team, with all the same players as a team that didn't make any postseason tournament and no key additions (he's a division 3 player, calm down) will somehow improve enough to become an NCAA tournament team?

Yes, I think adding another year of experience to literally the entire team including the 5 freshman in our 8-man rotation, along with the addition of a top-100 PG and possibly the return of a first-round draft pick will have this team in the tournament.
