Tate news on Twitter

There's a message board for Montana?
January 20th, 2011 at 12:42 AM ^
but it's just a chalkboard outside Bozeman.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:44 AM ^
Sure. It's right next to the coffee maker.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:22 AM ^
Ummm... I think he meant to say, " I smoked a ton of pot, and forgot to show up for class. I wish I had better priorities and I wish I could have this chance of a lifetime back. Sorry for screwing this one up...My bad."
January 20th, 2011 at 12:22 AM ^
This reeks of the same shadiness Justin Boren espoused when he departed. Only difference is that Boren's fingers are too damn fat to tweet.
Tate, as long as you don't suit up in the scarlet and gray, we cool.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:49 AM ^
I was thinking the exact same thing. Totally reminded me of Boren's shady situation. FWIW, and I don't know what can be believed, but I did hear that his grades weren't the concern or reason he wasn't taken to the bowl game. I had heard that it was another "situation" that was deemed to be against team rules that caused him to be left behind. Now whether that's pot smoking, or stealing a 10 year olds Razor scooter and riding it around on campus naked, I have no idea. I think Tate needs to put his life back together though and grow the hell up already.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:23 AM ^
all the things to make himself come off better here. Hope its actually him typing this all and his true thoughts. Best of luck Tate.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:25 AM ^
TomVH just confirmed on Twitter that it's really Tate (he received a text from him).
January 20th, 2011 at 12:23 AM ^
I love it when kids transfer after being ineligible. So good for the APR!
January 20th, 2011 at 12:28 AM ^
...if that was his thinking. That would be both sinister and lame at the same time. Magnificent feat.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:29 AM ^
Is this worse than someone transferring while in good academic standing?
January 20th, 2011 at 12:32 AM ^
Are you saying that his poor performance in fall quarter will be counted against the APR now? I'm not entirely sure how that whole set-up works.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:37 AM ^
I'm pretty sure that, yes, his transfer at this point would be counted against the APR. I could be wrong (I'm not an expert on the APR), but that's my understanding.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:26 AM ^
Change the name of the thread to Tate Gone to avoid other threads.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:26 AM ^
"Those who transfer may get playing time."
January 20th, 2011 at 12:26 AM ^
This is sad. Not so much that Tate is leaving (saw that coming), but that he seems to think he was wronged. I wish the best for you, Tate, and I hope you figure things out.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:27 AM ^
I love Tate and wish him well, but can we please be done with the Forcier family now?
January 20th, 2011 at 12:27 AM ^
A 35 minute "tweet conference" starting at midnight? On one hand you want to call him an attention grabber but at the same time, doing this so late at night isn't the best way to draw an audience (save mgobloggers apparently). I think this is just a kid who realizes he threw away the opportunity of a lifetime. From not working hard enough in practice to flunking out of school. I wish the best for him and hope he gets things back on track wherever he ends up.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:28 AM ^
Dont hate on Tate. Maybe it was too much for him. Michigan academics are no joke. You have to applaud him for praising the fans, the moments, and his memories at U of M instead of trashing the school like others.
Like Tate said, it was time to go. Probably saw the writing on the wall with Denard and Devin. Plus a new coach, getting his grades together, etc.
I wish nothing but the best for Tate. We'll all remember his game vs Notre Dame.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:30 AM ^
Maybe I'd feel differently if he hadn't run his mouth in the press two days before being declared academically ineligible that all you had to do was show up and you'd be eligible.
Tate, like it or not, has opened himself up to a lot, and throwing a one-man tweet conference at midnight on a Wednesday to dramatically announce you're leaving a team you're not even on anymore strikes me as... Not incredibly surprising.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:31 AM ^
Unless Hoke/Borges told Tate that he might want to look at transferring, I'd think Tate would have been fairly excited about the new coaches. Tate's game to me fits much better in the type of offenses that Borges has run than the offense that McGee and RR were running.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:37 AM ^
Was this definitely academic-related? His dad seemed to deny that a few days ago.
January 20th, 2011 at 1:00 AM ^
I tend to take anything his dad says with a grain of salt, but yes it was accademic related, rumor mill around campus was that he did not turn in any of his finals/papers at the end of this past semester.
January 20th, 2011 at 1:43 AM ^
Oh well that proves it then, as we all know the campus rumor mill is never wrong. /s
January 20th, 2011 at 11:34 AM ^
I know a current player and when I asked him, "Okay seriously, what did Tate DO?" he replied, "Uhh, what DIDN'T he do." The tone from this particular player (which he implied was echoed by the rest of the team) was one of being fed up with Tate's antics on and off the field.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:28 AM ^
Eh , Don't let the door hit ya..
After he ran that BS interview and then didn't even get to go to the bowl game , thats when he lost me. The whole " all you gotta do is show up to class" ...
Tom Brady had a few rough years at michigan as well.
Those who are champions will stay.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:29 AM ^
Melonie Collins hasn't tweeted;
@BigTenNetwork @MichiganFans "I told you so"
January 20th, 2011 at 12:30 AM ^
this is just sad on a whole bunch of levels; and even if it wasn't going to happen for him here, it didn't have to go down like this.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:31 AM ^
Thanks for keeping things interesting when they had no business being last year. I'll never forget that ND game
January 20th, 2011 at 12:31 AM ^
Next.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:47 AM ^
I call BS...I think you like it!
January 20th, 2011 at 12:33 AM ^
Tate is ridiculous. This year, he came up to me while I was walking past Dennison and asked me hectically "Dude, do you know where the Chem building is? I have a fucking exam in 5 minutes."
I told him where it was, but WTF, you've been on campus for 2 years and don't know where the Chem building is?
January 20th, 2011 at 12:36 AM ^
It's called a campus map genius!
Seriously, I wonder if he was high when he posted this.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:45 AM ^
I'm not Tate, but he was probably high when he "asked me this".
January 20th, 2011 at 12:58 AM ^
I guess we now know how often he was going to class.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:52 AM ^
January 20th, 2011 at 12:38 AM ^
hmm, this all seems vaguely familiar...(cough)Jason(cough) Oh well you know what they say "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, fool me three times and roofies were involved"
January 20th, 2011 at 12:40 AM ^
In his defense, Jason's transfer was justifiable and treated as such when it happened. There was no way he was moving up that depth chart.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:46 AM ^
Hindsight is 20/20. He wasn't going to pass Mallett, but when Mallet himself transferred and we were left with Threet/Sheridan, Forcier would have been a serious candidate to be our #1 QB that year.
January 20th, 2011 at 9:08 AM ^
I wasn't trying to make the comparison academically. The Forciers are devoted to themselves being quarterbacks first and foremost. If you doubt this please check out thier website. If the school is not compliant in fulfilling this destiny they will find one that is. Tate's roadblock at Michigan is obviously different than Jasons, but the result will be the same. I really thought Tate would be able to pass Denard on the depth chart in Borges offense. Sadly that is now water under the bridge, irrelevant, moot. The word "bollocks" was invented to express how I feel right now.

January 20th, 2011 at 2:12 AM ^
Uh, Jason transferred to Stanford. No one who flunks out of here should ever be allowed to step on that campus.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:40 AM ^
Maybe Brady Hoke came in, saw he had 2 young competent, high-character qbs to work with and decided he didn't want to put up with some punk ass, prima donna kid who had had multiple off the field issues and multiple "growing-up experiences," none of which seem to make a difference one month down the road... Consider what a QB at the University of Michigan has to do to fail out of the school. The resources offered to (and often forced upon) student athletes, especially football players are extremely vast including mandatory study table hours, tutors for every subject.
To get kicked out of school, he didnt get a 1.6... he had to have gotten substantially lower than that, likely failing multiple classes. I know its not cool to bash 20 year old kids (even though he is the same age as me) but honestly, Tate has been cancerous to the team since last spring when it was rumored he was losing his job to Denard. His work ethic dissipated (evident by his lack of wings on his helmet) and we all heard about his attitude issues off the field. I think the team is better off moving on without him.
Oh, and one more thing... the definition of "Michigan Man" has been discussed ad nasium over the past 3 months. I think we can agree that a Michigan Man earns that title through hard work and dedication, not self proclamation.
Per Tates Twitter: " Tate Forcier #5 - A Michigan Man Forever - Go Blue!
How about: "Tate Forcier #5 - A Michigan Man? Never. - Go Blue!"
Focker Out!
January 20th, 2011 at 1:06 AM ^
And where did you hear Tate was "kicked out of school?"
Tate gave us some great moments. I hope he finds success elsewhere and continues to mature along the way.
January 20th, 2011 at 1:24 AM ^
He wasn't kicked out, he flunked out--poor academics, as well as off-the-field issues.

A student can be dismissed for having a 1.6 GPA (term or overall). Check out the Kinesiology bulletin (page 79 for academic probation):
At the end of each term the records of all students whose term or overall grade point average has fallen below a 2.000 are reviewed by the Academic Review Committee for academic probation actions. Each student placed on academic probation is dealt with on an individual basis.
Now, from the dismissal section:
Students who have been on Probation or Probation with Warning may be dismissed from Kinesiology if they are not making adequate progress toward achieving a cumulative grade point average of 2.000. On occasion, a student may be dismissed without ever having been placed on probation. This includes students not following Kinesiology degree programs and/or not enrolled in a Kinesiology degree program beginning their junior year.
When reaching a decision involving academic dismissal, Kinesiology considers the student’s academic career and progress toward their degree as well as any extenuating circumstances.
Students who are dismissed are encouraged to meet with the Director of Student Services to discuss options. Appeals may be submitted if additional information (not previously recorded) is available. Students may petition the Director of Students Services for reinstatement after one full semester with supporting documentation for academic success upon return. Typically students require two semesters to document readiness to return.

Now if only we would have gotten Chris Forcier. He would have definitely stayed.
...oh, what's that? Furman? Jesus.
January 20th, 2011 at 12:42 AM ^
Well, that was weird.
