JH: Harbaugh Watch Day 1

Submitted by Geaux_Blue on

In the interest of limiting the discussion to less than 1000 threads (and create a timeline that should be interesting to look back on in the future), please contain developments (non-monumental of course) to this post. Avoid sniping, pro or con, as Michigan undoubtedly pursues Jim after his successful Orange Bowl win.

Should be interesting.

Do you think it's possible Harbaugh may not go to the pros in an effort to allow his brother to have the focus as the "Harbaugh" in the NFL?  That may sound silly but that may be a real concern of Harbaugh's.

I think if the 49ers make a legitimate offer that gives Harbaugh possibly executive control (maybe GM plus coach), he is not coming to Michigan.   If he isn't also given the GM role, I suspect he comes here.

If he goes to the NFL, it's likely NFC and/or west coast (SanFran/Denver.) I don't think he wants to compete head-to-head with his brother. That comes from personal experience. I think he likely talks strategy and football with his brother all the time. If he goes to the pros, that has to effect their relationship. So I think it's a factor, not the main factor, but it does make the pro/con list if he's writing one up.

(And to the other person who replied to your comment, Eli and Peyton don't have the option of playing in college anymore.)

to the NFL?  Maybe he and DB have an arrangement and he wants DB to talk to Rich before he says anything.  He did say that he wants ESPN to respect the process.

yikes that orange bowl performance is about to open a lot of wallets for jim harbaugh. My suggestion; look at ohio st's coordinators. that group has some pretty famous alumni: Pete Carroll, Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Bro Schembechler...

Oh, and who are you?

Harbaugh is going to the NFL; a lot of us have said it all year long.  It's not pessimism.

And let's be honest -- is Harbaugh really a slam-dunk hire?  I don't think so.  He's had an incredible year, for sure, and his Stanford team has incrementally gotten better each year, but we're dealing with a sample size of what, four years?  Ty Willingham had a similar track record at Stanford, and he certainly hasn't panned out elsewhere.  Rich Rod had a lousy first year at WVU, followed by several mediocre years, and several excellent years.

Why is everybody onboard with a young coach who, by all accounts, threw Michigan's reputation under the bus several years ago for his own benefit, and appears to be looking toward the NFL?  If he ends up here, he ends up here, but everybody has been acting like this is going to be an easy hire as if the Les Miles fiasco never happened -- and did we really want Les here anyway?

Harbaugh is the obvious hire, but that's as much as I'll say.

Especially with the last few days of information, I dont think anyone on this board thinks he will be "an easy hire", but anyone could just as easily say that Harbaugh IS coming here.  So just calm down and take the "pessimist" response as a joke.  I could be wrong, but I think that's how he/she meant it.

Willingham did NOT have a track record like this.  His Stanford teams were generally around .500, and his best team (over a 7-8 year period) went 8-4.  He also didn't inherit as downtrodden a program as Harbaugh.

I don't care about Harbaugh's comments three years ago.  If he's willing to come in and fix this program, that's all the restitution we need.

I love Harbaugh and his team's swagger. It's what RR has been missing ever since all of the unfortunate circumstances have unfolded.  I now hope we are calling JH our head coach later this week.

Also, the LiveBlog was a lot of fun tonight. What a difference rooting for a winning team makes. Can't wait to see us field a top five team again.

Go Blue!

Anyone else think it was completely classless of Rece Davis to ask Harbaugh, and to a lesser extent Luck, when they were planning on making their decisions while presenting them the Organe Bowl Trophy?

I am totally ok (and think it would have been his responsibility as a member of the media) to ask during the press conference (I am sure someone will) but, to do it during the trophy presentation was nausiating to me.
