This is the only appropriate place I could find to post this.
Does anyone else have strange desire to buy a Toyota? I've just got this hankering, and I don't know why.
November 27th, 2010 at 5:15 PM ^
If you buy a Toyota, the terrorists* win.
* By "terrorists," I mean "old people in Japan."
November 27th, 2010 at 5:17 PM ^
But I'm pretty sure I can put you in touch w/ a guy who can hook you up w/ a Verizon phone...

That ad can follow me all it wants, but I will drive my Mercury into the ground and even then my next ride would be a Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, bicycle or unicycle or maybe one of the GM brands before my family would even consider buying a Japanese car.*
*However, according to my dad's convenient loopholes, he can drive a VW because there are no American diesel sedans.

I'll take the bait... but just exactly what is an "American" made car?
Are not the employees of the Stateside BMW, Subaru, Isuzu, BMW, Mercedes, Honda, Toyota, Kia, Hyundai plants "Americans"? They should be to pass the I-9 check as a condition of employment.
Are those same employees not paid in US dollars? Are not those US dollars invested in the "American" economy when those employees act as consumers?
Does not the US government profit when some of those "American" made cars, especially Hondas and BMWs which are exclusively final assembled in "America" and are exported to what you would consider their home countries?
I had someone tell me one that a Honda or BMW made in the states is not an "American" car because the profits go to Japan and Germany. But that's bullshit too. The profits go to the stockholders and the executives. Same for the Big 3. The notion that the Big 3 is more altruistic than their competitors because they are HQ'd in SE Michigan is a freaking myth.
Further poking a hole in that bassackwards logic I own a 2005 Saab... Saab was owned by back GM then. So because the profits went to GM, that makes Saab an American car? Hardly. I don't think so.
But you're right about Ford, they are the only "American" car I would even consider buying. Considering they didn't take any bail out funds. Even though that ahem "American" company outsources its labor to Mexico and its steel to Russia.
I think a more accurate description is you would only buy union built cars.
BTW, since you're so proud of buying "American", do you shop at Wal-Mart???
In the meantime, keep parroting UAW talking points, it's got the State of Michigan far.
November 27th, 2010 at 6:45 PM ^
I though pointing out my own family's flawed logic made my point.
But anyway, no we do not shop at Wal-Mart, my great-grandfather was the last one in my family to work in the auto industry, and I'm from New York. Keep fishing.

Childress went from his offense driving for the Super Bowl to being fired in a 10 month span. I do not envy him.
November 27th, 2010 at 5:28 PM ^
I'd take his gig! He's got 2 years to sit on a beach somewhere and spend his mills. Sign me up.

We could be UT
November 27th, 2010 at 5:41 PM ^
Yeah, I'd hate to be UT. You know, finishing near the bottom of the conference and being unable to beat your rivals. Oh, wait...
November 27th, 2010 at 6:15 PM ^
i'm not saying texas had a better year than us, but they did actually beat a ranked rival this year. :(

November 27th, 2010 at 5:33 PM ^

November 27th, 2010 at 6:23 PM ^
We could have lost 8 in a row to Ohio State.

Could be Iowa, with expectations of winning 10-11 games and only winning 7...
Least most media picked us to go 7-5 or worse.. and we did.
