OT: Best day of my life.
My first child was born today at 2:10am and it was the greatest feeling I have ever felt. It's a boy and we named him Jalen (I was pushing hard for Denard.... J/K) But oh man it was the nastiest but best thing I have ever seen. I cried so much, people kept telling me I would but I didn't think it would be like this. I don't think anything will ever compare to this.

Congratulations! Your life will certainly change for the better...no matter what you may be thinking when he turns 2. :-)
Best wishes to you and your family, and God Bless!

Congratulations! Good luck.

Father of one, plus one more on the way. Greatest feeling ever. Good luck finding the time to sleep again. One of the many tradeoffs you won't really mind though.

It's always a great feeling until Maury reads the results of the DNA test.

I didn't think it was possible after reading the OP, but sir, you just won today.

Getting Married
Having A Kid
Michigan Winning a Natty Title.
All in the same bucket. Congrats.
(Personally the first two for me would read more like "finding a good stripper who isn't crazy and not getting her pregnant, but I assume that's just me")
August 26th, 2010 at 12:51 PM ^
Congratulations!
holding him and being able to share the re-birth of michigan football with him will feel really damn good too.
August 26th, 2010 at 12:52 PM ^
Just like when we named our new puppy Desmond. I congratulate you on becoming a father and nice job picking a classy Michigan-themed name
August 26th, 2010 at 3:12 PM ^
Before too long you'll have a couple, and as the lazy days of summer end, those 2 kids will be fighting over who gets to go to the UConn game.
There's not a prouder moment than the fist time you hold your child. My sincere congratulations.
August 26th, 2010 at 12:54 PM ^
That's great news and a great name. Sounds like you have a nice healthy start to the brainwashing. My kids wont have a chance. Congrats!
August 26th, 2010 at 12:54 PM ^
Nice to read good news these days. Always nice to get new Michigan fans in the world.
August 26th, 2010 at 12:56 PM ^
I convinced my wife to go with Mason Blue...not really but damn that would have been cool.
August 26th, 2010 at 12:58 PM ^
...It is the greatest feeling in the world. I cried with the first two and probably will with the third. She is due in September. If it happens on a Saturday (aside from ND on the 11th), I will cry for two reasons - 1) for the new child 2) I have season tickets!
August 26th, 2010 at 1:14 PM ^
#2 also due in (late) September and I have season tickets. I think we may get past Uonn, so I'm hoping (and think it's likely) it will be in the two weeks following.
August 26th, 2010 at 4:15 PM ^
not to have sex between December and April for this very reason????
August 26th, 2010 at 12:58 PM ^
Congratulations! It'll be the best and hardest thing you will ever do.
Father of three sons here.
August 26th, 2010 at 12:58 PM ^
... remember it when your son grows up and you argue (it will happen), share it with him when he's old enough to appreciate it (maybe when he has his own son/daughter).
Congrats! Your joy really comes through in your post, and you should preserve it.
August 26th, 2010 at 1:00 PM ^
Congratulations. It's been 15 years since my first was born, but I can go back into that hospital room in an instant and still feel the flood of emotions. Overwhelming and indescribably beautiful. But better yet, my wife and I have agreed that each stage of our kids growth since then has just been better and better (even the terrible twos, and the teen years). Parenthood is an awesome ride.
August 26th, 2010 at 1:01 PM ^
Best to you and your new family. Your life will never be the same, and that's OK.
August 26th, 2010 at 1:02 PM ^

August 26th, 2010 at 1:19 PM ^

When are you going to have "the talk?" You know, about MSU and OSU. I had it with my son at 3 weeks. I think he got it. He is 3 now and I am working on his understanding of why "voluntary" workouts are not really "voluntary" and that he better have his ass there He seems a little confused about this concept at this point but were making progress.
Congratuations again, and get ready for the whirlwind.
August 26th, 2010 at 3:20 PM ^
When they were born, I told my wife every time that I will love this kid, no matter what they do or how they turn out when they get older..... unless they end up going to college at MSU or OSU.... Then I would dis-own them....
August 26th, 2010 at 1:12 PM ^
Congrats! Let's hope he can pass (and look good in suits) like Jalen. Recruiting for class of 2027 is never too far away.
August 26th, 2010 at 1:12 PM ^
Congratulations!
August 26th, 2010 at 1:14 PM ^
Congratulations man, it's an unmatched feeling in everything that will happen for the rest of your life. No more are there decisions or thought about something that won't involve him. Seven years out from having mine, anytime someone talks about having a baby, in my mind I'm back in that operating room 7 and a half years ago.
August 26th, 2010 at 1:15 PM ^
Congratulations to you and yours! My daughter was born three years ago this September. A few hours after she appeared Michigan beat PSU and our 2007 rebound commenced. It was cool seeing a few of the other new dads in the coffee room watching the game. I only caught a few glimpses of it through the glass, but really there was no place I wanted to be more than with my kid. The next three months were literally the toughest and most trying of my life, but after that, it has been wonderful. Congrats again and enjoy the moment.
August 26th, 2010 at 1:16 PM ^
to the club ;) congratulations.
It is the hardest and best thing you will ever do. I'm bringing my 5 year old boy back to Michigan for his first game this year from California and can hardly wait after growing up going to all the home games.
August 26th, 2010 at 1:19 PM ^
Can he play corner or does he have stubby legs?
Congratulations!

but I think the birth of a Michigan fan might actually be on topic!
Congrats

Congrats to you and the family. It's an awesome experience!

I love a bloody birth story after lunch! As a sidenote, two of my smallest 8th graders just had an awesome fight in the cafeteria. By the time we saw what was happening in the teacher's lounge and got out there...one kid had taken several right hooks to the jaw. In his defense, he told me he was about to "finish the job" and was about to "get the kid back with my own fists." Classic small man beat down. Have a good day gentlemen.

I became a dad 2 and a half years ago when the little dude in my avatar was born.
I'll let you know when you can expect to feel rested again if it ever happens to me.
August 26th, 2010 at 1:32 PM ^
Definitely, the happiest days have been on the birth of a child. The pictures from those days are some of the few where I am actually smiling.
August 26th, 2010 at 1:34 PM ^
Congrats! Best of luck, and enjoy the ride!
August 26th, 2010 at 1:40 PM ^
or it's just a rumor...
Kidding, congrats!

My first was born last summer, and everyday keeps getting better and better! I'm already envisioning the first recruit trip from RichRod in another 16 years or so, when I can tell him I remained loyal through these first couple of years! In all seriousness, it's the best thing that ever happened to me and the experience gets better each and everyday with every little development that happens! You should now truly understand what it means to love somebody unconditionally and be willing to give your own life for them. Good luck!

somewhere where you can have Jimmy Johns for dinner? THEN it's the best day of your life.
August 26th, 2010 at 1:48 PM ^
Having kids teaches you the meaning of life. All the stuff you've done and ever will do is no longer just for your. It is for your little one.
One bit of advice - Enjoy every day and don't wish away any time (for example, "I wish we were through tthe diaper phase."). I know it is a cliche, but the time flies by.
August 26th, 2010 at 2:05 PM ^
Only a parent could have this insight. I said that so many times about the diapers, now I would love to see my kids at that age again if only for a minute. Your message hit a nerve with me in a good way.
August 26th, 2010 at 2:03 PM ^
Another Michigan fan added to the already strong base. Enjoy fatherhood!

- Talking
- Keep pad level low
If you had to guess, where do you think he'll be more suited...Spur or Bandit?
