Birthday Boy Beaten by Buckeyes [update: no charges]
August 2nd, 2010 at 11:46 AM ^
They better transfer to MSU, where Dantanio will allow them on as soon as they're released.
August 2nd, 2010 at 11:47 AM ^
When I first read the headline, I thought some football players beat up a little kid at his birthday party. I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibilities.
August 2nd, 2010 at 11:51 AM ^
Ok, so maybe he wasn't a little kid but the article said that the victim was at a birthday party thrown for him.

Everybody murders, everybody wants to be first in line for Laser Tag and Pizza.
August 2nd, 2010 at 11:57 AM ^
You never, ever, ever ditch in the laser tag line. I don't fault the kids one bit, Imma' get my tag on, son!
In all seriousness, nate williams is on strike 2 here, if this comes to fruition, he could be facing some serious dog-house time.
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:24 PM ^
Seems like this guy is beyond the doghouse, he needs to be off the team. Both should probably be off the team.
August 2nd, 2010 at 11:53 AM ^
Tressel has shown in the past that he'll allow behavior like this to go unpunished. As long as you're a contributer to the team. See Alex Boone and his Drunk driving arrest as an example. He missed zero games.

I didn't take my math classes at Michigan, but I don't think 1 incident makes a trend. Besides, what's the big deal? This isn't something major like a practice time violation.
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:36 PM ^
Your criteria are that there needs to be trends for punishment? Well, I guess you have experience with Clarett and all.
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:40 PM ^
I think not a fan of blue is streching to make his point here.
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:42 PM ^
If it wasn't for stretching.
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:49 PM ^
Sorry, I should have used a /s to ensure the sarcasm/smartalec voice was engaged.
I think he was being sarcastic...
the OSU Office of Compliance has stated that the University hopes to average one secondary violation PER SPORT per year so this really isn't a big thing in Columbus...

August 2nd, 2010 at 12:54 PM ^
because assaulting someone is nowhere near as bad as mandatory stretching.
I should have recognized that you were employing the "sarcasm-no serious-back to sarcasm" rebuttal technique.
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:33 PM ^
So what does Kevin Grady say about Rodriguez?
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:45 PM ^
Grady was suspended, albeit for one game. I don't see your point.
EDIT: Jesus, it's a fucking question....I'm just wondering what your point is.
Grady didn't miss any games, right? I'm unaware of him missing practice. So if Tressel is amorale for not keeping Boone out of a game, what is RR, given his conduct with Grady?
August 2nd, 2010 at 11:56 AM ^
Something's weird about the victim's story but still, it's only a misdemeanor?
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:00 PM ^
No theft. No life threatening injury. It's a good thing it's only a misdemeanor or our current jail problem would be overloaded with 6 months for every drunken moron who threw a punch.
August 2nd, 2010 at 11:59 AM ^
That program defines it
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:12 PM ^
Williams is a junior defensive lineman. He's from Washington Court House and went to Miami Trace.
Shouldn't be a surprise that he gets involved in a misdemeanor from time to time to go back home

This sounds like one of those tough-guy fights where the student tries to intimidate a football player and, predictably, bites off more than he can chew. That said, I know this has happened at UM before (see Marlin Jackson), and usually the truth comes out.
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:32 PM ^
Who knows, maybe that's the truth.....but where in the given article is that possibility illustrated? The victim claims the two players were harassing his girlfriend and he said something to them. If this is in fact the case, who wouldn't have done the same thing?
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:49 PM ^
His story might have been the case as well. I'm just saying that the story provided in the article was pretty thin, and I'm always a little dubious of football players attacking students (unless they are at MSU). If they were harassing his girlfriend, then by all means he should stand up to them. But at the same time, a kid is not going to tell the police that he might have instigated the fight, especially if he might have been drunk (which would account for him waking up at his friend's birthday party).
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:35 PM ^
plead guilty, but was acquitted and won the court case in civil court.
When Sports Illustrated did that story (sometime in the last two years?) about the threats to pro athletes, they said the kind of thing you're describing happens a lot. That is, some guy will start swinging his d*ck around a sports star, trying to start trouble.
Which perplexed me, because I do not see the wisdom of harrassing a large person who relies on his conditioning, strength and adrenaline for a living. I guess the world is not filled with rational people.
Same thing apparently happened to Jimmah last year - he was at some bar with his girlfriend (and maybe even some family members), when some guy started talking and one thing to another and the guy sucker-punched Clausen. I guess it is a story you can tell your brahs when you are bored, but starting a fight with a guy who is probably bigger, stronger, and faster than you just seems like a recipe for disaster.

Par for the course in Columbus
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:35 PM ^
Typical Buckeyes, cant wait to crush them on the field this year!
Go Blue!!!!!!!!!!!
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:37 PM ^
the only one who didn't realize that guy's full name was "Jerod Smalley Storm Klein" and get a chuckle out of it?
Also, was this DURING the party or AFTER the party? If it was his party, why was the dude sleeping?
Either way, looks bad for these fellas. Are these guys any good?
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:45 PM ^
"...told NBC's Jerrod Smalley [that] Storm Klein..."
SK is a backup with no real shot at starting and Nate Williams is a starter.
that's just too bad. Jerod Smalley Storm Klein is a much more interesting name. Yay for editing (or lack thereof).
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:41 PM ^
The article says both played in all 13 games. Are either of these guys projected to be starters this year?
August 2nd, 2010 at 12:52 PM ^
Interesting that the article has been taken down.
if it were about Michigan.
Local radio (97.1) now reporting the two players are suspects. NBC 4 has pulled the story (likely under heavy pressure from Lord Tressel. Watch how quickly this story disappears.
both players will not be charged. The outrage was fun while it lasted, though.
LORD TRE$$EL GOT IN THERE WITH THE DOLLA DOLLA BILLZ Y'ALL AND STAMPED OUT THIS STORY WITH NARY A QUEEF FROM THE LOCAL MEDIA
Titillating thread titles throw throngs of alliterative amazement about assault around Mgoblog's mundane Monday morning minutiae.
Also, those dudes are douchebags.
Buckeye mind tricks.
It works on them as they are weak minded.
