Mel Kiper on Michigans' chances IF Shea Patterson is eligible
I know some of you guys don't like Kiper and/or mlive but I thought I post this for some encouraging news football related.
It's nice to see a draft "expert" predict this even though it means very little. He's the type of player that will rejuvinate the team and the fanbase immedietely, if eligible. Considering the dud we've had so far this year, I'll take it.

Little-known fact: Mel Kiper's hair is the same hair as Mitch Albom's. I don't mean the same style, color, and viscosity. I mean the exact same hair.
That's why you never see them together.

He's not paid to be right or wrong, he's paid to provide entertainment.

Let's give it up for Mel Kiper's agent, everybody! Who says agents don't get humor?

If Jimmy Clausen wasn't a star in 8 years. He's supposed to retire now.

I think Jimmy named a star after himself, so technically..........

But (maybe?) if we go to a pistol we can get him a bit more time?
I’m grasping at straws to an extent, I know. We can scheme around but o line has to get better.
I don’t get national analysts. They look at things like “senior O line” and decree it will be great, while seemingly ignoring the trends and history of those players. When we had Kalis et al I read that many times. “It will be a great O line they are all seniors...”

Mel not only stared out the back but also licked the window as well. It's my opinion that window lickers get a bad rap.

Shea Pattersons hype is a bit silly. He's put up pretty mediocre numbers and has been extremely turn-over prone. If he doesn't see some sort of "leap" under Harbaugh then he isn't going to be anywhere near the savior people want him to be.
February 12th, 2018 at 10:20 PM ^
He was on pace to break Crouch's yardage record in the SEC. His TD:INT was 1 TD under 2:1, which is not great, yeah. His ypa could improve too. The flip side of that is he didn't have much in the way of help outside of AJ Brown and he played in the SEC West, which is pretty brutal. He'll have more help and fewer Alabama Defense-like opponents at Michigan.

UMBig11 just said Shea is going to be eligible, people.
Why does this not have more upvotes?

the NCAA will not approve immediate eligibility just to screw Jim Harbaugh again. (SEC and Buckeye bagmen are busilly at work accidentally leaving lunch bags in NCAA offices now. Jim Delany too.)

Too bad Jimmy can't recruit and develop a quarterback. This wouldn't be in the hands of the NCAA.

This is a little like when the East German goverment opened the Berlin Wall in 1989 and announced it in a casual "oh by the way" at the end of the evening news after the weather and high school sports segments.

it's the most important position and was probably our weakest point last year I will definitely take the upgrade. Look forward to what he can bring to the team, while DM and Peters continue to learn and grow.

That's fair enough, I guess, but his passer rating was higher than any Michigan QB from last year. In fact, it was higher than any Michigan starter-ish QB since Devin Gardner in 2012 (when he took over for part of the season after Denard Robinson got hurt). And he was playing for a 6-6 team going through quite a bit of turmoil.
Patterson has weaknesses, but he could be Michigan's best QB in a long time.
