OT: AAPD wants Skeeps' liquor license taken away
According to a memo from the AAPD to the Liquor License Review Committee, the PD is recommending that Scorekeepers' liquor license not be be renewed. Police had to make 156 visits in 2017. Could be a sad day for many on this board, as that would surely put the place out of business.

Spent many a regrettable night in there

I don't remember what night of the week it was, but I remember ridiculously cheap drinks early -- like a Long Island Ice Tea for $1 before 7PM or something like that - and each hour it would go up in price so I of course had to drink as many as I could before 7PM. I have no idea how I survived - it actually makes me cringe thinking about it.

The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking the Long Island Ice Tea special was .25 cents. It was in the mid 90s so I'm really struggling on this one.

In the early 2000s it was Thursdays and they had hiked the price all the way up to $1. But maybe you taught them a lesson, because a don't recall it being cheaper earlier in the night.

RIP
and for those of you who didn't like skeeps, cool. It is a college bar and doesn't pretend not to be, a lot of us have good memories with friends there

Are you "signalling" that you will be "triggered" if anyone has harsh words for Skeeps???
February 2nd, 2018 at 12:11 PM ^
i worded it poorly
i get tired of people who act like they were too good for skeeps rickes etc.

Hehehehe, sorry, but I had to...
"OK, before anyone says anything bad about Skeeps, just know that I love that place and will cry if you do, and me and my Comfort Peacock will need some time alone to recover."

I mean, there's probably a lot of us who decided that waiting in line to go to a crappy bar full of the most annoying segments of the student body was probably a waste of our time. To each their own, though.

Personally I always just found uptight band nerds annoying, but hey whatever floats your boat.

Don't worry. This being Ann Arbor and UM in 2018, it will probably be replaced with an upscale cocktail lounge featuring Edison bulbs, reclaimed wood tables, fine French absinthes, and bitcoin ATMs so our New York sorority girl can slide some cash out of her Dad's purse.

but had omitted the absinthes, so thanks for the tip! Should be a nice complement to the "mindful drinking" portion of the menu.

Don't forget the fusion small plates section where you can get delightful poke bowl tapas in small filo dough cups.

I think shrubs have replaced absinthe as the hip drink du jour.

I've been wondering what these bulbs were called. As soon as you used the term, I was pretty confident I knew what you meant. A quick Google search confirmed my confidence. Thanks for the info!

156 visits seems absurd. That's almost enough where the AAPD could hire someone with the job description of "Go to Skeeps' every night."
I wish there was a frame of reference for how many times AAPD had to visit other Ann Arbor bars.

I'd be interested in seeing it compared to Ricks. Usually there was just a cop car parked right outside Ricks to cover that, Good Time Charleys, etc.

Its a lot easier to get in underage at skeeps than most other places. Its a lot more freshman/sophmores so I'd guess more calls.

it was a rather unique one. Take it from someone who has worked as a server/barback/bouncer for the past 7 years in this town.... fights are not rare.

They have nearly an entire outpost just for the Go to Skeeps cop on duty. AAPD has an office in the parking structure about 40' from Skeeps' front door.

Spent many a night after Michigan football games posted up, drinking beer, and watching other games (and coeds). Ah, memories...

I receall that Skeeps rotation in the mid 90s. Add in $1 pitchers at Ricks on Monday night and Friday afternoon, it is pretty well covered.
And during hockey season -- Ricks-Yost-Skeeps

That sucks, I never spent much time there, but when I was there, I thought it was fine for a college bar and better than many I've seen. I think the AAPD is being short-sighted, it's not like the trouble is going to go away, it's just going to find somewhere else to go and somewhere the AAPD isn't used to.
February 2nd, 2018 at 11:46 AM ^
To be fair, if the places with "trouble" are at risk of losing liquor licenses, they may themselves take a hand in reducing said "trouble" and it may actually go down.
February 2nd, 2018 at 1:03 PM ^
I suspect you have to have one or two places where the young men who want to fight can assemble and do their thing. At least if you know where they are you can avoid them and the boys in blue can come prepared.
Disclaimer: I got wasted a lot during college but tended not to go to the fighting bars.

Back in the mid-1980's, Gus's Pizza also operated a delivery operation out of there.
$5.99 for a very greasy 16 inch pizza and 2 quart sized sodas.
Good times.
