Best Podcasts
I've recent discovered this amazing thing called podcasts. As a 26 year old, this makes me the Worst Millenial Ever. This post aims to rectify that (not the "worst ever", just the ignorance. I relish the title.)
What suggestions do you have for good podcasts, besides the obvious mgopodcast? Good sports ones? Good entertainment ones? Ideally, I'd love to find a good finance/mathematics one, or one on healthcare/insurance, but I feel the topic isn't really one that would be fun. The SOA podcast, for example, is terrible.
Last year we had a pretty good discussion on this as well. Hopefully we get some new ideas of podcasts that've sprung up in the interrm.
The Moth Radio Hour is great for stories.
I like DecodeDC for a behind the scenes look at Poltics.
Art of Manliness for general stuff, some I already knew, some I was able to learn.
Doug Loves Movies
Crimetown
Cashing in With TJ Miller
Hardcore History is the bees knees
I tried Doug Loves Movies and man, there's like 3% content, the rest is just like talking to the audience about stuff that might be cool in a live show but sucks on a podcast.
Will check this out tomorrow thanks
This is my non-MGoPodcast rotation right now:
Sports:
- Deadcast
-The Solid Verbal
-Rich Eisen Show
Entertainment:
-The /Filmcast
-Various Game of Thrones podcasts during the season for that, but mostly Game of Owns
Politics:
-Chapo Trap House
-The Dig
Misc:
-Radio Lab
-The Age of Napoleon Podcast
-a16z
Upvoted for the Deadcast. I actually think that they do a great job of cutting through a lot of the bullshit of sports reporting and do incisive analysis. The funbag questions are also great.
Making It Podcast - with Jimmy Diresta, Bob Claggett (I Like to Make Stuff) and David Picciuoto (formally The Drunken Woodworker, now Make Something) . Love their YouTube content and contribution to the maker community. If you like to build things, woodwork, weld, design etc, great podcast and video content for info/entertainment. I know one of the bright minds in the Mgo world is familiar with these guys/community.
Reclaimed Audio Podcast - podcast dedicated to making with primarily reclaimed materials.
The occasional CalCast. Only after hearing Coach on his show.
We're similar.
I don't have S-Town, Truth and Justice, or Joe Rogan (not anymore), but I dabble with the rest and really enjoy Waking Up.
Good list. I'm going to give The Watch a listen!
False. Black bear.
Continuing with the love for Hardcore History
Politics: The Fifth Column, Libertarian so they hate everyone.
Sports: Solid Verbal and I may be in the minority but I like The Wolverine Beat. and think Shutdown Fullcast gets a little too offbeat for my interest.
Comedy: The Adam Carolla Show is good, but since it's daily he tends to repeat himself. He has interesting guests though.

I'll give it a look, thank you.
Since most everything else has been mentioned, I'll say How I Built This. Casual interviews with entrepreneurs about how they built their massively successful businesses.
How has no one mentioned WTF?
Marc Maron is just about the best interviewer in the business right now. Two updates a week, incredible conversations, and 800+ in the can to catch up on. An absolute must.
Very insightful discusion MM had with Obama when he was President. After that I knew I needed to hear more.
alright?
I'm also 26 and just discovered podcasts a few weeks ago. My favorite so far is Bill Burr's.
I'm a podcast junkie so here goes...
For sports (beside MGoBlog) I love Football Weekly which is a mostly English soccer podcast. Their intros especially are pun-tastic. I also love the Lowe Post. All my NBA news comes from Zach Lowe. His connections and hunches are amazing and make him the "it" guy for basketball news and analysis.
My go to DC politics & policy (split 50/50 between news and DC policy talk) is Vox's The Weeds podcast. Amazingly educated group that are also funny. Vox is my go to news source right now and this podcast is part of the reason why. In fact I'm listening to an episode right now.
StartUp -- A guy that starts a podcast company (leaving Planet Money and NPR) documents that process via podcast. It becomes his companies 1st show.
Containers - A small 10/12 episode show on how container ships changed the world. Amazing how one change can impact so many different fields and regions in the world.
Reply All is a great show. Looks at tech but in a human interactive way. Last episode their founder's (StartUp's protagonist) phone was hacked and he found himself paying for Uber rides in Russia despite being in NYC. They then track how it happened and try and play detective. If you want a good show of theirs to try out I recommend Episode #53 "In The Desert". A couple buys a new house and it's being listed by Apple as the site of where numerous stolen cell phones are. They obviously are freaked out and ask a host of the show to solve the problem.
For history I love Revolutions. As the name implies, it tells the stories of different revolutions. English civil war is season 1, then American, French, etc. Currently as part of a fundraiser, when you donate to his show you can vote on which revolution to cover next. Cool idea. Great show.
Serial is a classic. Season 1 changed podcasting. Season 2 kinda sucked. But season 1 was game changing.
Song Exploder -- artists break down how they made a song. Cool names like Angel Olsen, Grimes, Mitski, Clipping and even the Bojack Horseman theme song take part.
I have more suggestions but this seems like more than enough for now.
For the guy who wanted to know any good gamblings podcasts:
1. The Golf Betting Guys : These two dudes are whizzes at picking head to head matchups and DraftKing lineups. They've made me some good $ over the past 4 months.
2. Sports Gambling Radio - By Bang The Book: Professional linemakers and gamblers for just about every sport. Pretty solid.
3. Fantasy Golf Insider: Self-explanatory
True Crime:
1. Sword & Scale : Fantastic and not for the weak of heart. Start with the Johnny Gosch story.
2. Last Podcast On The Left : 3 funny dudes covering some pretty grim topics
3. True Crime Garage: 2 no-nonense Ohio guys covering crime. Dont hold their location against htem. They are top notch at finding true stories you probably haven't heard of before. Start with "Boys On The Tracks" to get a flavor for them.
4. Truth & Justice
5. My Favorite Murder: Two chicks for a change of pace. Good chemistry between the two. More lighthearted and conversationsal than Sword or True Crime.

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History and Common Sense podcasts are thought provoking. Also like Waking Up with Sam Harris. I often don't agree but another set of fair hosts.
On a lighter note, love the Monday Morning Podcast (Bill Burr). Drink Champs is amazing if you are a hip hop fan. I like others but those are the ones I pretty much always listen to.
If you are a Big Foot enthusiast, Sasquatch Chronicles is really entertaining.
The Fantasy Footballers is a great podcast. It is independent, 3 mid-30's guys who are friends and family men, smart, entertaining, great sound, analytical, and accurate. It's a good mix of humor and analysis. I found them in prep for fantasy football a couple years ago and I've found it has really helped me with fantasy football and keeping up with the NFL in general.
I couldn't agree more. Very informative but not enough to overwhelm you. The guys all play off each other really well. Shows in the offseason keep you entertained during slow times.
