Link: http://collegebasketball.ap.org/poll/2017/17
The most recent top 25 was released today and Michigan comes in with 14 votes, the 4th most votes among the " teams receiving votes" category.
In the B1G, Purdue (#16) and Wisconsin (#22) are the only B1G teams ranked. Minnesota comes in at 26th, and Maryland and MSU are also among the receiving votes category. Virginia Tech is also receiving votes.
Michigan now has wins over #14 (SMU), #16 and #22.

might actually be just a hair early if your ambition is a deep tourney run. Ideally, a good team can cruise through this point of the season without a care in the world and save their mental energy for the dance itself. Michigan 2013 is a perfect example of that. This team is having to expend a lot of emotional capital right now.
February 27th, 2017 at 4:53 PM ^
Without this massive upwards trajectory exactly when it happened, there would be no tournament to run deeply in.
Additionally no I do not anticipate a deep tourney run, but I'd be pleasantly surprised and will likely travel to some of the games if we do.

emotional capital? what the fuck?

you clearly did not play sports at a highly competitive level

And says dont worry he is holding his turbo for just the right moment.
February 27th, 2017 at 9:24 PM ^
I'd much rather have a team on the rise heading into the tournament than a team on a slide, or even on cruise control for that matter. More wins=more confidence.
February 28th, 2017 at 2:51 AM ^
was more the exception to the rule and lost to a Louisville team coming into the tourney on a ten game winning streak and Big East Tourney title. It's obviously better to be playing well and we've only been expending "emotional capital" for about the past six games. We coasted for while there so should have plenty in the tank to make a run.
February 27th, 2017 at 3:49 PM ^
So we're 29th. Minnesota is 26th. If not for that officiating gong show in the Barn, we'd probably be in the top 25 at the moment.
February 27th, 2017 at 3:58 PM ^
And we dont get a home rebuttal against what might be the worst team to ever be ranked 16th in RPI; and our path to the 4th seed would be built on a much shorter list of contingencies; and I love complaining.

if Irvin comes out of his slump and finds his shot in the next 3 games
We could hit peak right before the dance
February 27th, 2017 at 3:58 PM ^
Teams don't want any part of is in the tourney. We are a high-Beta death trap for elite programs. Our defense has completely turned the corner. Our offense is among the nations best. Believe
February 27th, 2017 at 4:02 PM ^
We are the Big Ten's best team (offensive efficency minus defensive efficiency) in the month of February.
February 27th, 2017 at 4:22 PM ^
in the BIG period...over the past few weeks.
February 28th, 2017 at 2:54 AM ^
pretty much the same right?
February 27th, 2017 at 4:00 PM ^
But doesn't matter. Just get us to the dance so we can bust a move!
GO BLUE!!

First, seemingly everyone wants Beilein gone. Then we blow out Indiana and Michigan State, beat Purdue and Wisconsin. Now we are receiving Top 25 votes and there is talk about a Tournament run. Basketball can be a funny game...
February 27th, 2017 at 4:14 PM ^
Actually first we looked like world-beaters, dominating Marquette and SMU (a win that looks fantastic now). Then we had that stretch where we played no defense (coupled with every team going NBA Jam on us), and seemingly everyone wanted Beilein gone...
February 28th, 2017 at 2:55 AM ^
we were talking about Dan Dakich's preseason final four prediction (and no one has better inside info) in a semi-serious way. We're right back where we started in terms of how we're playing.
February 27th, 2017 at 4:23 PM ^
many posters on this blog are just dim.
February 27th, 2017 at 4:30 PM ^
The ones that were mindlessly defending Beilein because of a run from 4 seasons ago were not being very realistic.
February 27th, 2017 at 4:46 PM ^
I don't get this urge to minimize Beilein's accomplishments. From the 2011 MSU game at Breslin through the end of the 2014 season - a full 3.5 years - we were the Big Ten's best team. During that stretch we went 93-32 overall, 48-17 in conference, won two league titles (and were a layup away from a third), reached the Elight Eight twice and the national title game once.

that's a very solid college center tandem, especially when playing alongside Stauskas, Levert, GRIII and freshmen Walton and Irvin.

The beilein is God crowd
This is obnoxious. A lot of us just think he's a good coach - not perfect, not the greatest ever, but good.
My advice to you is to stop trying to win a stupid internet argument and just enjoy the rest of the season.

FUCK YEAH! If you ain't 29th, YOU LAST!!!!

29 WITH A BULLET
February 27th, 2017 at 4:10 PM ^
I wouldn't be surprised to see 4 B1G teams make the Sweet Sixteen, nor would I be surprised if none of them made it out of the first weekend. It's such a crapshoot this year. I'm looking forward to seeing how the league performs, to see the level of quality in the league's parity.
February 27th, 2017 at 4:13 PM ^
I don't remember if RPI or Kenpom factor home/road weights, but it seems like teams can raise hell at home and look like shit on the road. See: us, in general. See also: MSU on saturday against Wisconsin in Breslin.
February 27th, 2017 at 4:15 PM ^
Outside of two games (South Carolina and Illinois) I don't think we've looked bad on the road. We've come up just short a bunch of times.
February 27th, 2017 at 4:25 PM ^
there are no road games in the tourny. we have been pretty damn good at home and at neutral sites this year.
February 27th, 2017 at 4:45 PM ^
Both the RPI and KenPom take the game location into account -- RPI to a counter-productive level, in fact. (Home losses hurt good teams more than road wins help them -- so, whereas the intent was to try to get Syracuse, for example, to play a non-conference game outside of the state of New York, in practice, the actual way to game the RPI is to make sure you don't schedule home games against teams that might beat you).
February 27th, 2017 at 6:12 PM ^
This is what I kinda remembered after I hit 'send' - at least w/r/t KenPom. I've been irrational about our chances based on performance out of context in both directions this year.
February 27th, 2017 at 4:29 PM ^
win a couple more and we might get a 6 or 7 seed
February 27th, 2017 at 4:34 PM ^
I wonder what has conspired to make the Big 10 so bad this year. I know MSU is down - we are sort of where we have been the past few years as is Wisconsin & Maryland. Purdue is actually up vs recent past. As is Northwestern, Minnesota.
Iowa, OSU, Indiana (Ill to lesser degree) sucking seem to be the culprits. But maybe less star players as well. Bridges apparently is the only guy in conf projected in the top 20-25 of mock drafts. (Swanigan is projected 2nd rounder) No Lonzo Balls out there.
Our top teams are projected as #4, #5 type seeds in the tournament. Far cry from 4-5 years ago when this conference might have been the best in the country. At least the deepest. We had multiple 1st rounders on our team alone, forget more than the entire conference at this point.
February 27th, 2017 at 7:44 PM ^
But Morris leaves after his sophomore year. I wouldnt let an NBA Exec watch my dog.

February 27th, 2017 at 4:46 PM ^
Win a couple of more games and maybe they'll sneak into the bottom of the top-25, which would be a pretty big turnaround given the start of the conference season.
February 27th, 2017 at 5:14 PM ^
Could care less what they are ranked. I personally don't think their seeding really matters in the big show. If they can beat good teams right off the bat as a low seed, the better it'll be to watch. It's so importatnt that they just keep up with the defensive intensity and do better rebounding the ball on both ends. My coach always stressed defense and rebounding. All of us could score just like Michigan. When you have a team full of good shooters and scorers like the Wolverines do, the offense will take care of itself that you gain from the momentum on the other end.
Edit: And go out of your way to get a body on and in front of your opponent after the shot goes up. For the love of beer and good whiskey, don't just stand there watching and hoping the ball comes to you. This is elementary stuff. I wonder if teams even teach kids how to box out anymore.
February 27th, 2017 at 6:00 PM ^
Purdue and Wiscy don't really look like "normal" 16/22 teams, but seems like a down year in places other than the B10 as well.
February 27th, 2017 at 6:16 PM ^
Duke fans are ready to jump off a bridge right now. Many other traditional powers are hurting: 'Cuse is down. UConn. Even Kentucky is underwhelming.
