Rutgers plans to 'stripe' their birthplace for UM's 2016 visit
It's being dubbed...no joke...#StripeTheBirthplace

Fuck penn state.
Penn State has an enormous inferiority complex. It manifests itself as a persecution complex.
Many Penn State fans believed they would totally dominate the Big Ten and the reality has been anything but. To explain it, they've blamed various conspiracies (from Michigan favoring "Referines" to a league office supposedly biased against them to the supposed attempt to besmirch Paterno). Even their new slogan ... "unrivaled" ... speaks to an inferiority complex.
When Penn State plays Michigan State nobody ever wins.
+1 for Fuck Penn State and their cult of enablers.
I went to PSU in 2007 and the white out was awesome. I thought it was one of the coolest things ever until I saw an Iowa game (on TV) where they did black and gold sections in stripes. Now that's discipline. Really want to make it to Iowa for a game some day.
Is that like marking your territory?
I didn't see that this is what Rutgers was planning. They must give out the shirts when people enter the stadium. It would be funny if Rutgers couldn't pull it off.
That's even more unbelievable if they didn't hand out shirts. There has been a meme for years about the lame Michigan fan. Before the press boxes all of the sound went straight up into the ether and people would talk about the quietest 111,000 people you ever didn't hear. (Other than Braylon vs. MSU). My friends mother (in her 70's now) has been going to games since she was in college and consistantly has to yell at her section mates to get off their asses and cheer. I'll take a walmart wolverine who'll organize on social media than the richest alumni and their 150 points. (I'm just jealous I don't have 150 points.)
Give credit where it is due: If you watched that game, the Iowa black and gold stripes were flawless.
Just another Big Ten team that sees Michigan as a "rivalry game." While it's sorta admirable, I wish a few more of these teams would play as hard against Sparty and OSU as they do against Michigan.
I mean never. Everyone knows UM is still the boss. Even in their decade of slum or however you want to look at duration wise. Now it's time to start winning the National Championships and put everyone back in their place once and for all. The battle field is set!!!
They seem to be following the recent Penn State trend of having either you or us (depending on the year) as their big night home game. We are PSU's white out game, again this season. Since 2010 it has been either you or us except for 2011 when they did it for Alabama.
Interestingly Maryland has not gone that route. Our game in 2014 and yours in 2015 were both Wolverine Devotee approved noon kickoffs ay Byrd.
were scheduled to be Maryland's big home night game last year, but Hurricane-Superstorm Whatever pushed it to noon in order for the entire East Coast to evacuate like in The Day After Tomorrow. What ended up happening was much less dramatic.
Yeah, I sort of agree. It's objectively dumb, but at least they are trying. Better than a bunch of teams that just roll over and give up whenever people start stealing their lunch.
Looks like a backgammon board.
In that case, my bet is:
I think the giant patches of maize are going to throw off their striping attempt just a bit.
I'm pretty sure Rutgers is going to be a defacto home game for us going forward. A lot of Michigan fans live nearby.
I'm going this year.
Went two years ago. Great time. Tons of Michigan fans. Their campus sucks though.
24-26 loss for Michigan? Blocked field goal with 3 minutes left to go that could have put Michigan ahead? 0-2 start to the B1G season for Michigan? Nearly 300 passing yards ceded in the first half?
That does not sound like a great time to me. Sounds downright "ungreat".
Oh I blocked the game out of my memory. Everything before and after was great.
Count me in. i'll be there too.
the novelty of playing us (and OSU, PSU) is still high so I think they'll still show well this year, but when it's like 2022 and they've sucked for their whole Big Ten existence and they don't care anymore, then that stadium is going to be a beautiful shade of yellow for many years to come
Odd Section wear maize and even Sections wear blue for greatest contrast.
Exactly - this will be a total embarassment - shit loads of maize in the crowd. Don't wear blue unless you know you are in a red section.
the football families are rooting for u of m, cuz their kids go there....
I don't understand. Does Rutgers really think this is a thing?
I guess we must also be their biggest rival!
/looking at you Illinois.
the "blackout" did really come across as a blackout two years ago. There were a few Michigan fans there but it is not as though they did not pull the concept off. Yeah, "StripetheBirthplace" is "WorstNameEver" but it probably will take to a certain degree.
Ash wants a signature win by poking the Maize and Blue bear? Watch the Hawaii game and see how that is going to work out.
