I'm very interested to hear Beilein's post game interview from this one. Although a true statement for every game you lose, at some point a coach has to be accountable for more than just "the other team was a better team tonight". Especially after yet another double digit loss.

People have consistently complained about Beilein's defenses. Yeah they could be better, but as long as his offense was humming on all cylinders it didn't really matter. They could simply out score the other team, and the defense just needed to not screw things up by giving up too many easy baskets.

Well when your team's success is based on efficient three point shooting, strong PG play, effectively stretching the floor, and you can't do any of those things anymore (never mind the fact that the defense is still bad), well, you have results like tonight.

I'm not much of a basketball expert, but my guess is that if you can't score points, and you don't defend well, you're not going to win a lot of games. Not any games that matter anyway.

What could you see?

When they showed Tate's best play of the game you could see the 2 travels and a double dribble. I get feeling that if we saw the game from a normal angle, we would have different opinions about most of the game.

But a -8 point loss compared to KenPom would probably still have me frustrated.

By and large we're not good by several measures but what's infuriating is the lack of tenacity and give a f*ck. Dakich gives effort. I saw two occasions Dawkins couldn't be bothered to get on the floor. The third time he did. Unacceptable.

Why in the world is DJ Wilson fouling down 8 with like 5 seconds in the game?

That's a small thing, but the amount of just plain stupid things we do throughout games (which is starting to happen consistently) is baffling.

Why the hell do we have guys forcing passes under the basket while flying out of bounds?

Irvin just makes an endless amount of mistakes and is careless with the ball so often as well.

this was a deeply dispiriting game.

First off, so predictable that we had not a chance in fucking hell coming off an emotional win over Purdue with only two days rest. We just can't do it, and the team, trainers, motivators - no one had any answer for that.

All our big wins are traps for the other team. Maryland played much more recently than we did in that game (and was coming off the emotion of the 3 pointer escape against Wisconsin). Purdue played more recently and was coming off the super emotional win against Iowa. Texas is the miracle that keeps on giving. And thankfully, they didn't crap themselves in the last minute and held off WVU.

The team seemed to show no emotion after any of the Donnal putbacks or other moments that you would have thought would have gotten a rise. The defense broke down predictably against a team more athletic than ours, but really limited in terms of what they can execute well.

I always thought this was a difficult matchup for us, schedule-wise and matchup wise - they're bigger than us at so many spots, and more athletic - but the fact that this was so clearly a winnable game with a few more big plays made, a few less mental lapses and terrible possessions on D - it was there for a team that was ready to win a game like that and this team didn't have the quality or the passion necessary to take that game.

I found it the most depressing loss of the season, particularly as it came against OSU, and I really agreed that only their team seemed to be treating this as part of a serious rivalry. We had to come out like hungry ass junkyard dogs from the opening tip and we were pretty much the opposite. This was not good enough. Just not nearly good enough.

Just seemed to go through the motions from the tip off.

Game was within reach throughout, yet we played with the intensity level as if we were down 20.

I just think the endless Levert drama kills this team's mojo.  Guys are getting ground into a pulp while Levert is out because he is sore.

Meanwhile the rest of the team is sore too, yet they are out there.

the specifics of his injury. It's just a road lined with too many dark lights. Hell, I really want to know why all our star-related injuries seem to play out with nearly the same slowly soul depleting script, but again, too much gray matter.

But I do agree that this Caris thing may be finally sapping the team of its will to live. That had to be an enormous bummer as they went into this game.

As to the going through the motions thing, that "floor seats" angle was as ass as ass gets, but it did give us a real close up look at a bunch of guys who seemed pretty subdued and entirely unable to feed off of each other's emotion. That game cried out for the good ol' aneurysm of leadership, someone to shake those fuckers and let them know that the game could be won and no one - not a player on that team or a coach on that bench - seemed ready or willing to bring *that* level of intensity to the task. We didn't see every time out, of course, but I strongly suspect it never happened.

By the way, Aubrey getting his shot blocked by that fucking Mitchell turd was pathethic - he went up with all the urgency of a man trying not to disturb a canopy of pretty flowers - and that is the only way Mickey fucking Mitchell is blocking your shot. Yes, he was fouled when he collected the rejection and it wasn't called, but you're Aubrey fucking Dawkins with springs in your legs - fucking take it up strong and get 2, ffs.

Kid posts videos of himself doing dunks off the side of the backboard in the offseason, and yet this entire season, he has spent missing dunks and then shooting layups (missing a bunch) when it calls for a fucking dunk.

The last play of the game.  What in the world is he doing, step back, then gets his shot blocked as well.   Care to give a shit Aubrey.

Just no urgency from the coaches whatsoever.    We conceded this game and I have no fucking clue why.

If we are going to call ourselves a shooting team, then we actually have to make some fucking shots once in awhile.

How do we like rarely have a good big man?  How does a team built entirely around good shooters often go long stretches with no FG and shoot in the 30% range?

When we land the number 2 overall recruit it's because of the greatness of the university and coach. When other schools do it's because of the bagman. I'm so tired of our fans acting like everyone cheats except Beilein. Give other schools credit for taking big men that can board and play D even if they can't moderately shoot the three.

exhausted. Without Caris and Spike Irvin and Walton are playing way too many minutes. Robinson hit a wall several games ago. For all the bitching, the big misses are Wilson and Chatman, both were 4* (247).

Walton and Irvin are both averaging less minutes this year than they did last year. Granted, Walton has played more minutes this year already than last because of his injury last year, but on a MPG basis they are both lower than last year.

Unless you're blowing out a lot of teams, your studs should be playing a lot of minutes.  Walton and Irving are both averaging 32 minutes a game.  Here's what the better players on other Big Ten teams average:

Valentine (MSU) - 32

Trimble (Mary) - 32

Ferrell (IU) - 34

Uthoff (Iowa) - 30

Hayes (Wisky) - 36

Koenig (Wisky) - 34

I didn't even watch. After watching this team play soft & with no intensity last week ... will pass & do other stuff. Sucks we don't have a good team for the tourn!

The players were expecting Caris to return (and lead them). When he decides relatively soon before tip off he can't go, there is void physically and EMOTIONALLY . We have no Spike, no Max B, no desparate senior to pick up the emotional slack. Beilein is not a fire and brimstone coach. The team, much to our dismay, was flat. Team defense takes energy and emotion. We have a huge void there.

Dakich has noticed this energy level several times. In those games I have noticed Caris not sulking on the bench, but clearly frustrated with his condition and not in a 100% in cheerleading role, the way Spike is.

Caris' day to day uncertainty will be an emotional roller coaster for this team until it is resolved one way or another.

Emotional Roller Coaster sums up this season.  Lost to some teams early that at the time we didn't know were really good so we were down.  Started to look pretty good and Caris was leading us.  Lost Caris and we were down, started playing well and somehow beat Maryland and it looked like we actually had a chance to contend in the conference, Beilein was a genius.  Then MSU clobbered us and all was lost.  Then we pull one out against Purdue and we're in the tourney and fighting for a decent seed.  Now we look like crap and lose to a rival and we're back on the bubble with 3 really tough games in our last 4 coming up.

And thye Levert situation hurts, he was poised to push for All American honors and be a mid 1st round pick, now he's not even going to be All B1G hoinorable mention and his draft status is up in the air.

Perhaps it was addressed earlier, but why in the last three years have we only played 1 home game against osu vs 3 away games. Is this on Brandon or Rutgers?
