2016 OT Alaric Jackson (Detroit Renaissance) is on the board now
2016 OL Alaric Jackson out of Detroit was set to decide today, but posted on Twitter that his announcement is going to be delayed until NSD "due to some difficulties". Coincidentally (not really), he also started following Tim Drevno on Twitter today. Has offers from MSU, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nebraska. Big, athletic dude who is super raw. Has only been playing a few years, but has high upside.
Allen Trieu said on Scout he thinks something is going on with Michigan here. Wolverine Devotee's Twitter follow theory may yet again be vindicated (until Jordan Fuller's announcement tonight).

If Alaric Johnson falls in the internet, it might break.

If Alaric Johnson is as big as Alaric Jackson, we can take him too. The more Alarics the better!

I believe a Viking name Alaric Skullsmasher invaded the northern Norman coast in the late 9th century...
February 1st, 2016 at 4:26 PM ^
There are actually zero (zero!) images for Alaric Skullsmasher on google. I can't tell you how disappointed I am.
February 1st, 2016 at 4:47 PM ^
OK, I made Alaric Skullsmasher up, because the name sounded very Nordic. However, there really was a Thorfinn Skullsplitter. There was also an Ivar the Boneless. And no, Ivar did not experience the tragic war wound you're thinking of...

So does that mean he'll play in the NFL and smoke the Lions?
February 1st, 2016 at 3:55 PM ^
He has only played football for two years. Basketball exclusively before that. Very athletic
February 1st, 2016 at 4:01 PM ^
Jon Runyan was the same. He played basketball due to his height. He started football as a junior. I had him for English when he was a senior at Carman-Ainsworth. Good kid and, as we all know, one helluva athlete.

Great. This is the Iowa OL commit, right?
1) They know their OL, an Iowa offer is similar to a Wisconsin stamp of approval
2) low key I've been irritated that they took the Thorpe award winner Desmond King out of Detroit. Imagine Jourdan Lewis and Desmond King as the starting CBs last season and next. Would have been an even more epic defensive season.
February 1st, 2016 at 4:16 PM ^
AFAIK, he was never committed to IOWA or any other school.
February 1st, 2016 at 4:22 PM ^
I seem to recall reading somewhere that Hoke wanted King, but there were academic issues? ...I'm not sure if Iowa took him or Michigan couldn't take him.

Magnus thinks he's bound for 2-3 years on the pine due to his raw-ness, fwiw.

Well with OL that's pretty normal. OT are young.

Hypothetical 2017 Depth Chart
LT | Yr. | LG | Yr. | C | Yr. | RG | Yr. | RT | Yr. |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Grant Newsome | Jr. | David Dawson | Sr.* | Patrick Kugler | Sr.* | Ben Bredeson | Fr.* | Mason Cole | Sr. |
Nolan Ulizio | So.* | Michael Onwenu | Fr.* | Jon Runyan Jr | So.* | Stephen Spanellis | Fr.* | Juwann Bushell-Beatty |
Jr.* |
Plus we'll probably add some top level recruits (like Isaiah Wilson) next year.

That's assuming that someone like Kugler will still be around and will have earned the starting center job. There's been a lot of talk that Cole could end up moving to center. Also, I don't really know why Cole would flip from LT to RT. He's been starting at LT for two years, so moving him to a less important spot seems odd.

it's because Brian has a crush on Grant Newsome

ive just recently heard this kids name and havent seen any film but he cant possibly be a bigger project than bushell-beatty. that dude was the definition of "project OL" without the elite athletic ability and crazy upside of other project types.
is he athletic? can he accept coaching and apply himself? if hes mobile and coachable, i say sign him up sight unseen.
if hes really that size (yet can still move) and really that inexperienced then its prob worth taking him bc they need bodies. obviously its preferable to find talented, more college ready bodies given depth chart concerns but short of that, they just need bodies. need to start molding guys and filling in gaps over these past few classes so they have bodies to compete on future OLs.
highly rated guys like dawson, kugler, bushell-beatty, etc appear on projected future 2 deeps but thats mostly due to lack of numbers - those guys were fairly touted (and highly ranked OL flame out all the time) yet failed to see the field at all last year despite very real struggles by OGs in run game
February 1st, 2016 at 4:43 PM ^
Bushell-Beatty wasn't highly rated, and he's also not a feather in the cap for recruiting success. He's a huge project who hasn't seen the field in two years. Most projections that I've seen for this coming year and beyond don't have him scratching the starting lineup. Things can change, obviously, and maybe he'll develop. But saying that he's on par with Bushell-Beatty is a pretty weak argument.

Yep, you are correct.
Every year there is a guy who no one talks about that pledges Michigan out of nowhere. This will be our guy this year.

Careful... don't let this be you.
A guy texts his neighbor:
"Bob, I'm sorry. I've been riddled with guilt and I have to confess. I have been helping myself to your wife when you're not around, probably more than you. I know it's no excuse, but I don't get it at home. I can't live with the guilt any longer. I hope you'll accept my sincerest apology. It won't happen again."
The neighbor, feeling outraged and betrayed, grabs his gun, goes into the bedroom and without a word shoots his wife.
Moments later the neighbor gets a second text:
"Damn, Sorry Bob, that should be “wifi”… Sorry! I really should use spell check!"
