2016 opening weekend games in college football
It's the next college football Saturday and one that has been talked about for years now.
Check out the opening weekend matchups we're going to see on September 3, 2016-
- Michigan vs Hawaii
- Clemson at Auburn
- LSU vs Wisconsin at Lambeau
- Alabama vs USC at Arlington
- UCLA at Texas A&M
- Notre Dame at Texas
- Oklahoma at Houston in NRG Stadium
- Georgia vs North Carolina in Atlanta
Florida State will play Ole Miss in Orlando on Labor Day in the newest kickoff classic game.
What's interesting is that the FBS season will begin a week prior on August 27th. Michigan will have some film on Hawaii as they're going to face Cal in Sydney, Australia.

They will have traveled 14,584 miles by the time they arrive in Ann Arbor.
They'll have to practice a few days after a 10,000+ mile trip to Sydney and back and then get right back on the plane.

Hawaii hosts FCS UT-Martin on September 10th.
I wonder if Hawaii at least ASKED (not that any of the involved parties have to say "yes", of course) for the UCF/Michigan and Hawaii/Michigan games to be flip-flopped. Hawaii hosts UT-Martin instead on September 3rd.
UCF currently has no game scheduled for September 3rd. I wouldn't think Michigan would particularly care one way or the other.

As I recall, they turn right around and travel to Tuscon to play Arizona the week after their game against UT-Martin. That's three away games in the first four, which for them has to be particularly brutal. That Sydney-Ann Arbor combination though....yikes. I kind of feel bad for them really, as they'll barely know what time it is by the time they get to Michigan Stadium.

I'd like to see the new QB get a couple easy games to ease into the offense before the Colorado and PSU games. Schedule sets up pretty good to be 7-0 heading into the MSU game. Our first major road game isn't until November at Iowa, unless Rutgers is suddenly at 8PM and Gary SuperNova shows up.

That Rutgerzzz game has night game written all over it as we're the best team they'll play at home.

We play MD at home in 2016

That should hopefully have their spirits broken and bodies battered.

I wouldn't be surprised if Colorado is as good or better than Penn State in 2016. Colorado seems to be improving slightly over the past couple seasons, so if they make another jump in 2016 they could be a 6-6 type team. Penn State went 7-6 this year and just lost their entire defensive line. (They also lost Hackenberg, though I am not sure how big of a loss that is considering the level of production they were getting from him). If they had a good coach, I might expect Penn State to still be okay next season. But they have Franklin, so I think they will struggle to stay above .500.

Colo 2016 will be a lot like BYU 2015 if they had a senior Taysom. I do expect Col to put up pts, they have a good dual threat QB and made close games with some good P12 teams this year-wacky offense like Indiana so wouldnt just look at record and say they are easy. 3rd yr QBs will do something. Good challenge for our D esp LBs.
PSU will be easier - dual threat QB is going to be tougher than whatever PSU rolls out. And their coach is a doofus.

Another notable game in 2016 is the Battle at Bristol on Sept 10th, where you will need binoculars to watch the game from the front row.

Being from Sydney, I think it's neat that there will be a college football game there. My people are not really into college football for obvious reasons, but obviously we have Aussie rules football. There will be many people at that game, I feel. I will not be one of them. I haven't been to Sydney in a few years and don't plan on going back for a few more years.

I'll be putting in my paid time off tomorrow, thank you.
(joking, I know it's a Saturday for those taking me literally...although I work in college athletics, I'm sure we'll have soccer or volleyball on that day. Guess who won't be there?!)
