JT Barrett arrested for OVI early Saturday morning

Eleven Warriors:
"According to two sources within the Columbus Police Department, Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while impaired (OVI) early Saturday morning near campus.
Barrett was arrested near High and Tompkins, just north of Campus after policed noticed the player attempt to avoid an OVI checkpoint in the area. Per CPD sources, Barrett was cooperative and blew into a breathalyzer, registering slightly over Ohio's legal limit of 0.08 blood-alcohol concentration.
The quarterback was released to his teammate, fellow quarterback Cardale Jones, who provided Barrett a ride home.
Ohio State did not respond to a request for comment.
We'll have more on this as it develops."
Pretty crazy. You hate to see this regardless of the situation or circumstances.
Ohio State is on its bye week this week.

suspended Mark Meyers for 6 games -- until the legal process ran its course. You don't think MSU could've used a safety who wasn't a true freshman the last two weeks -- not to mention before that?

Tough call as a coach tho because you hate to ruin a kids life for one mistake..albeit a big one...by taking away a potential life opportunity. Interesting how certain situations are handled tho ...depending on how high or low profile the player is.

He was kept out of fall practice, missed 6 games, and is paying his own way. Dantonio let both the legal system and the university do its job.
You really think Williams wasn't punished enough? If he were a UM player you'd be holding that up as evidence of what a real punishment should look like.
Oh, and Delton has been a model citizen and teammate since then. And he's actually not very good -- third string at best. That's hardly a JT Barrett situation.

Any UM player that pulls a gun in public needs to be off the team. Period. Done. Now go drink your green look-aid somewhere else. You are obviously too homer to see the light here.

All moralizing about drunk driving aside, one has to objectively admit that on the scale of DUIs, this is relatively low. This isn't Kevin Grady passed out behind the wheel. He'll get a couple games, and that will be the correct punishment.

Kids will be kids but being a high profile athlete in the midst of a potential back to back national championship run...AND...not to mention you just earned the staring job back. SMH.

My point that you missed is that drinking and driving is not a "kid" thing. If it was, then we wouldn't have 30, 40, 50, 60 year olds still doing it.
October 31st, 2015 at 10:16 AM ^
No need to reply. I know you are "right". Kids that are underage should not drink or drink and drive. My point was that kids are going to be kids and mess up once in a while. Some get caught. Lots don't. I'm not going to vilify him because I have done it before and didn't get caught. I am just doing my best here to not be a internet tough guy behind a keyboard/hypocrite.

Don't make fun of this kid. Everyone's lucky that nothing really bad happened. He's a kid, not much life experience and he made a mistake. Anybody here, keep in mind, our beloved coach had a DUI at 40. I don't agree with Urban starting him next game, but I hope he gets enough punishment to know not to even try it again. Best of luck to him, see him in November. I'd have less sympathy if he's a repeat offender.

were out looking for drivers under the influence last night, and will be tonight big time too. Most people don't think of that though, and may be more likely to not get a ride. Whenever Halloween fell on a Friday or Saturday when I took my kids out for trick or treating, I was doubly watchful for cars.

Rumor is Cardale got him drunk, gave him the keys to his car and then called the police. No more QB controversy.

He'll likely serve a one game suspension, and I don't think we get to bitch about anything more.
Also this is pretty typical of people doing stupid crap when they're young or underestimating their level of being impaired. This is a pretty easy mistake to make, zero tolerance preaching regardless. So let's not pretend this is an indicator of Urban's lawless program(which, sadly, seems yet to show itself like at Florida, maybe he <gasp> learned from experience).

Registering slightly above Ohio's legal limit?
You're either over the legal limit or not.
So it's not that bad that he was "slightly" over the limit, versus blowing a higher number?
BTW, what constitutes "slightly"?

After a team vote, it was decided that JT will not practice Sunday. J/K Seriously though, Urban's punishment will be very severe because this is could have been a life threatening matter. Cardale was the man last year, and I believe that he will be the one to take over the reigns for the rest of the season. This is such a major disappointment out of a team captain.
