Blake O’Neill speaks.
Impressive, impressive kid. I wish UM had him next year.

I love what we're hearing out of this club. From JH to Blake all the way through. Not heartbroken, devastated or even defeated. Woe unto those who take the field against them the rest of the way.

I've always believed that this school, in every sport, draws outstanding young people to its campus to represent its various programs. And Blake is a wonderful example of a great competitor on and off the field. He had a great game on Saturday minus the last play. Wish everyone had the capability of brushing off the incident like he apparently has.

the willingness to talk to jackass reporters after the most difficult result a punter can experience, the graciousness to answer absurd an hurtful questions--
Blake is the guy you want as a teammate. Or just a mate, period.

I hope that Blake gets a run in the NFL, it would be cool to see him make it at the next level. I think a lot of us are thinking maybe he could, wondering if he will.

I don't think his style translates to the NFL game. With no spread punt formations allowed, low punts are troublesome in the NFL, and he tends to kick line drives.

He is one pretty dude.

Yeah, despite the punt fiasco, he still went to bed GQ model-handsome that night.
While the rest of us . . . . not so much.

He is a great kid, but I would be fine if he NEVER HAD TO PUNT again. Score on every freaking drive Blue. Maybe a ceremonial punt against OSU with a 49-0 lead in the third quarter?
October 20th, 2015 at 9:26 PM ^
Can we get a stadium wide, "Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oi Oi Oi!"
I think it would be pretty cool and would atone for the more idiotic elements of the fanbase. (Plus it'd be so cute it would probably make sportscenter)

Hopefully they won't need him much.

True. I would have gotten about three words in and then it would have been "GO FUCK YOURSELVES, YOU TRY PUNTING WITH 11 MSU FELONS HEADED STRAIGHT FOR YOUR HEAD!!"

If he's moved on from it, then I think we can too. Seems like an outstanding young man.

The coaching he displayed was the coaching he received from his parents during 18 long formative years.

Blake is an awesome dude. Same here, wish we had the guy three more years!
October 20th, 2015 at 7:51 PM ^
I'm not familiar with the rules on this. Why can't he play two more years, since he didn't complete his undergrad in the US and only has 1 year playing CFB?
October 20th, 2015 at 10:55 PM ^
Tell him that if he returns to Australia after he graduates to tell all the young aussies to come punt here. So bummer we only have his punting brilliance for a season. He's legitimately been a game changer this year. We'll realize how truly valuable he was when he's gone next year

Wow. Very impressive. We sometimes forget how crazy Australian Football is. He is not afraid to make mistakes. It was cool to hear that he juggled it before and still hit it for 67 yards. Well spoken and with great spirit. The Michigan Difference.

The rcmb told me Harbaugh threw him under the bus post game - Valenti too. And we'd never get any good 'croots because of how we Harbaugh treated his own players.
I don't understand!!!!

Sports talk guys down here in Atlanta said the same thing... I think the argument was that Harbaugh did not do anything to deflect blame at all from Blake by saying something like "one play doesn't lose a game".
I agee Harbaugh didn't go out of his way to support Blake but I also do not think he threw anybody under the bus.
October 21st, 2015 at 1:01 PM ^
I was a little surprised in the postgame presser that Harbaugh just said. "I guess he thought he could get the punt away" and repeatedly that "mistakes were made", but never did he say the coaching staff made the mistakes, or it was on us, etc.
Amazingly, from this presser, it doesn't sound like any discussion was had to get down in the event of a bad snap or anything. Given the 4th and 16 fake punt attempt earlier in the year with Harbaugh admitting they needed to talk about American football rules and now this, I'm surprised the coaching staff didn't take more responsibility for not coaching him up in the event of a bad snap, which isn't uncommon for punts.
This guy is an excellent punter and seems like a great young man. It seems like the coaching staff failed to coach him up properly for that scenario. No one should blame him one bit.
