One Frame At A Time: Maryland
Alright, that hurt a bit, but I'm fine.
Wait, is that the ref?
I'm literally dead, ref.

10. HarBros
"So, how would you feel about taking the Indy job?"
9. Chesson Jets
Note Darboh escorting Will Likely to the sideline as Chesson turns the corner. Mountain goat receivers: still a thing.
8. BUTTSCREEN
RPS +3 (blockers in acres of space)
7. Dive Like Desmond
What, were you expecting a different Desmond?
6. Don't. Throw. At. Jourdan. Lewis.
Especially not when you're throwing late across the middle.
5. Henry Power Toss
"Hey, Daxx, why don't you take a shot at quarterback."
"Sure, Coach."
[five minutes later]
"Uh, Coach? I'd like to transfer to a conference without any Willie Henrys."
(Replay angle.)
4. High Fi-- Uh, Bump It
@AceAnbender This gif sums up the game. The first half was awkward and lacked execution, but the end result still felt right.

Couldn't put it better.
3. Are You Serious?
Not fearing the turtle, if I'm being honest.
2. "Good shit, Jedd"
Following the Patriots-inspired, impossible-to-stop two-point conversion. Yes, it appears Jedd Fisch made a good playcall.
FRAMES OF THE GAME: PLAY DEAD
The official looking down like "who, exactly, are you trying to fool?" at the end only adds to the greatness of this GIF.

How about how the Maryland D-lineman is almost the one who makes the tackle? I didn't notice him streaking down the sideline after Butt before, but damn that dude hits another gear for a big guy
October 7th, 2015 at 9:56 AM ^
And look how much time Rudock has...on a screen...where we've released 3 linemen to block downfield.

I loved the buttscreen but, correct me if I'm wrong, it looked like at least one oliner was at least 6 yards downfield when Jake threw it.
October 6th, 2015 at 9:54 PM ^
Jake Butt caught the ball behind the line of scrimmage so it was a legal screen to have Olinemen down field.

Sorry I was a little tired and my head wasn't on straight I just got back from reffing the Lions games

These are all winners

Except for the Maryland punter - that guy is a loser. The flag has already been thrown and he's still pandering to the refs to exaggerate how "hurt" he is. Punters' acting skills are right up there with soccer players.

Brian is always bringing up the non-call of illegal receivers downfield in college? I see linemen blockers 8 yards downfield on that Buttscreen. Looks like that worked out to our advantage... or perhaps I might not understand that rule correctly.
October 6th, 2015 at 5:11 PM ^
Right on Wiki:
An exception is onscreen plays where the ineligible player is allowed to cross the line of scrimmage to go out and block because the ball is still being caught behind the line of scrimmage.
October 6th, 2015 at 6:40 PM ^
Was about 4 yards behind the LOS when he caught the ball.
October 6th, 2015 at 5:15 PM ^
1. Where he can't field the punt, is upset and walking off, then sees an opportunity to block a guy and lowers his shoulder.
2. Where he tries to do a kick up / rising handspring after getting tackled.

The Henry toss looked like WWE taking Maryland QB to "Suplex City"
October 6th, 2015 at 6:55 PM ^
Who's calling it? Henry? Hurst? Wormley? Other?
I kind of like Henry.

watch Ben Braden hopelessly trying to find someone, anyone to block and finally just deciding he should be in on the tackle at the end.

My favorite part of the play is, of course, all the linemen downfield with Butt as he gallops fervently downfield. The topper is #71 being at the 25 yardline with Butt as he's tackled. That's over 40 yards downfield for those keeping score at home.
October 6th, 2015 at 5:39 PM ^
Can one you MGoRules gurus explain to a rules novice like myself why the "inelligble receiver downfield" rule doesn't apply to the BUTTSCREEN? It looked to me like Kalis and Glasgow took off downfield well before the ball was thrown. Braden was the only one who seemed to wait near the LoS and wait until the ball was thrown.
October 6th, 2015 at 5:41 PM ^
is caught behind the line of scrimmage you can have as many lineman downfield as you want.
October 6th, 2015 at 6:56 PM ^
October 6th, 2015 at 5:48 PM ^
Linemen can head downfield as long as the pass itself stays behind the line of scrimmage.
EDIT: too slow

To be fair to the kicker, he's so out of shape it's most likely he just collapsed from exhaustion. Kicker had more muffin top than the linemen..

Without a doubt my favorite one watching live was the "Are you serious?" bro. He just looks like a real winner.

Henry just envelopes that qb. It's like he swallows him whole and spits him out. You can see and imagine the qb's stark terror as Henry suddenly appears there looming over him like a fucking grizzly bear. That's my pick. Give the d some.
October 6th, 2015 at 6:12 PM ^
The "Are you serious?" guy is the most Maryland guy ever.
October 6th, 2015 at 6:19 PM ^
My gif of the game didn't show up in this. It's any of the hundred times per game Durkin goes absolutely batshit crazy with "ragecitement".
I could just watch D.J. Durkin for 3 hours.

It's between the Henry Power Toss and the High Fi--- Bump It. I went with the one where the player makes the play though. Henry Power Toss reigns supreme this week.

I love that, at the very end of the long run, he is carrying the defender that tackles him; the guy's feet dragging through the turf as he desperately tries to hold on.

That OG #75 made probably the lamest cut block attempt ever. Curled up into a ball while his QB got tossed. Loved how Henry's two arms simultaneously crashed down onto Garman's head and shoulders.
October 6th, 2015 at 8:21 PM ^
Why did every Maryland lineman hit the deck immediately? That seems like a horrible way to block, and they looked ridiculous flopping around like a bunch of fish while their QB was getting caber tossed into another dimension.
October 6th, 2015 at 8:35 PM ^
to cut block, ie take the legs out of the DL. Henry just beats his man who is slow to cut block.
that was going to be a crossing play in front of the LB's. Michigan seemed to have it covered anyway.
October 6th, 2015 at 8:49 PM ^
Indeed, in response to each and every one of the Terps' cut-blocks, all of Michigan's front four keep their feet or get right back up on their feet while the Terps are still rolling around on the ground. Makes me think back to the Air Force game and Michigan's seeming inability to adjust to that style.
October 7th, 2015 at 7:39 AM ^
you guys have it wrong. They were TURTLING in fear.
October 7th, 2015 at 9:32 AM ^
OL cutting DL keeps the DL hands down on those short passes. Prevents them from getting picked or knocked down.

Henry gets the win for me. My favorite part? At one point every single Maryland OL is on the ground flat and several D are closing in to clean up - not that Henry needed any help.
October 6th, 2015 at 7:34 PM ^
On the Willie Henry Gojira sack, the Maryland version of Brian is giving the Terp's O-Line -4's and -5's when doing the UFR, if he even made it this far into the game tape.
October 6th, 2015 at 8:36 PM ^
3 of the 4 blocks were executed perfectly.
October 6th, 2015 at 7:43 PM ^
Sitting in my living room watching the game, I swear I could hear Henry go RAAAAAARRR.
