|3 weeks 4 days ago||Resume||
That resume looks eerily similar to Michigan's. Some terrible losses, some solid wins, wildly inconsistent. I'm picking Michigan since they now got some confidence after the Illinois game.
|5 weeks 2 hours ago||Speculation||
I think the only way he would tell them that they are getting Harbaugh is if it is actually a done deal and he plans to announce it to the public later today (which I highly doubt will happen). With social media, you can't tell an entire team to keep a secret for a week. I'd expect that all he's going to say is encouraging but very vague comments to keep them excited and feeling like they are in the mix but not reveal anything.

I'm no expert on the matter, but I agree that there wasn't a major drop-off, they came to play. I think Taco got exploited a couple times on his over-persuit on draw plays/QB runs whereas Mario stayed home (deflected screen pass comes to mind). Still, it's nice to see some depth at DL.

Wooooo Friday!! That means only 1 day until Michigan football once again! Perhaps this calls for another prediction thread, eh?
|20 weeks 5 days ago||Prediction||
My prediction is that both defenses unravel in the 4th quarter and it turns into a shootout in the end.
Oregon/MSU is a really intriguing one to predict. I'll take Oregon since its in Oregon. It'll be close in the first half but Oregon will get rolling in the 3rd quarter and win by 10 or so.
OSU will beat VT, VT reminds me of FSU when Bowden was getting old.

56-35 Michigan is my guess.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||Awesome!||
Been listening to the recruiting roundup on WTKA every morning this week and it seemed like Sam Webb definitely knew something he couldn't divulge. Still, I admit to being nervous. This seems to be a major win on the recruiting trail and I think we'll like this guy a lot!
|23 weeks 14 hours ago||Hoops||
Those hoops were awfully shaky after every dunk. Looked like they might fall over. In relevant matters, I thought there was pretty good ball movement in the sample we got. I liked the flow.

Wearing my Diego Forlan Uruguay jersey from travels long ago (its the only soccer jersey I have) and getting really excited! My wife's history of living in Spain has us rooting for Real Madrid.
|26 weeks 1 day ago||I too am excited||
I, too am quite excited about the defense. I am a little less optimistic on the Wide Receivers though, simply because they are largely unproven. Other than Funchess, we are speculating based on talk or showing promise. There certainly is a lot of potential there and I think they will step up, but it may take some time for Darboh, Chesson, Canteen, etc. to get fully on the same page as DG.
|28 weeks 1 day ago||Donnal and Doyle||
I think Donnal and Doyle are the X-factors for the team this year, mainly Donnal. If he can hold his own in the post, convert on his chances in the pick and roll, and keep the rebounding differential close, that would be the difference between a tourney team in the top half of the big ten and a big ten champion. I'm really excited to see how he plays, but I'm trying to keep my optimism realistic.

ESPN must be annoyed they have to reference SI breaking the story. While the suspense was fun, I'm more curious to see where all the other dominoes fall now. Congrats Cleveland

Celebrating my cousin's 21st birthday with bar-hopping in Holland. Bike ride and friend's wedding on Saturday. World Cup finals on Sunday, of course! Fun will be had.

He must be hanging around Hoke a lot, I heard a lot of sentences begin with "Well...". I like him, looking forward to what he can do with these guys.

Hearing this exciting news of my alma mater (class of 2011) makes me want to run around singing the Calvin song

I gotta say, I remember being pretty excited about Kevin Gaines, Jamal Crawford, and Maurice Searight. They had a lot of hype. Were any left after their sophomore season? There was so much young talent on that team that all seemed to dissolve away.

|43 weeks 3 days ago||Wisconsin love||
I don't see where all the Wisconsin love is coming from. Yes, they looked absolutely dominant against Baylor, who is a good team, but they were awfully close to getting knocked off by Oregon. It took a big run down the stretch to win that. I'm not saying they're not solid, but I think saying they are playing better than anyone is a bit much. Another game like the Baylor one and I'll jump on board.
|44 weeks 15 hours ago||I like it||
I like what you've done here. I think it's helpful to be able to know what's coming. My thought to improve upon it would be to give a projected starting line-up. It looks like you listed them by class, but it would be useful to see who you think will get the most PT. Thanks for putting this together.

This exchange was great! I loved it. Great stuff, Brian, and that other guy was hilarious, too. Its nice to have some some self-depricating humor among rivals.
|1 year 23 weeks ago||Useful Stuff||
Based on the roster in the Useful Stuff tab, it looks like 57 guys have Freshman or Sophomore status. I'm guessing those RS Sophomores are considered second year players to Hoke, which makes things a little closer.
|1 year 28 weeks ago||Thread Jack||
I have a potential new thread topic for discussion on a lazy friday. If someone with enough points deems it worthy of its own thread, please feel free to start it up. Unfortunately, I mostly read and don't post a lot so my point total is low.
Topic: Fairest playoff/championship system
Which major sport group makes it so that the best team actually wins the championship? Here is my analysis:
1. NBA - 7 game series all playoffs, higher seed gets home court, history seems to prove it
2. NCAA Football 2014 - Four best teams square off, little parity
3. NHL - Same system as NBA but more subject to streakiness
4. NCAA Football 2013 - Unsure if best team gets to play, but you know the winner will be at least a top 4 team
5. NASCAR - I don't follow, but I've heard the Sprint Cup has been a good system
6. MLB - 7 game series, smaller group makes the playoffs which lowers parity, but subject to streakiness and the cold weather has a major impact
7. Golf - FedEx Cup system is still developing but seems to be solid
8. NFL - Need to win at least 3 straight games to do it, lots of teams make it
9. NCAA Basketball - Single elimination tourney with 68 teams, lots of parity, little rest at times, lots of quirky teams
It's interesting that to me the less "fair" the playoff system the more fun and exciting. I hope others find this interesting. Sorry to thread-jack.
|1 year 35 weeks ago||Cottage||
Heading up to the cottage with the whole gang. Cramming 20+ people in and setting up the docks and bringing out the boat. Weather will not deter me from a weekend ski. Is it just me or does Memorial Weekend often tease you with sub par weather Friday - Sunday and a nice day on Monday as you're heading home?
|1 year 36 weeks ago||Last Time||
IIRC, last time you posted a scouting report discussion thread, that particular individual committed the following weekend. Can that please be the case again?
|1 year 37 weeks ago||Strong Class||
As has been said, this is looking to be a strong class, but I think your prediction is a little rosy. To guess that we will get all of Hand, Peppers, and McDowell just seems unlikely to me. Maybe I'm jaded from people like Jordan Diamond and LaQuon Treadwell, but leading for these highly touted players or being near the top doesn't mean you'll get them all. I think 2 out of 3 is more realistic. I'd guess we don't get Hand.
The other guesses seem to make sense. This is fun. I love recruiting.
