I work with lots of statistics, and write lots of academic-y papers that no one reads. One day, I plan to write a paper, present the results of my complex statistical model (my bread-and-butter), explain what the model predicts will happen, and then close by saying, "well, even though the numbers say X, I predict the opposite will happen!" I will then begin looking for a new line of work the next day.

Maybe it's because I come from a generation that actually saw great (or at least consistently above average) Michigan teams year in and year out. Consistent offensive line play, hellacious defenses. I saw Michigan teams that didn't get bullied...ever. Teams that won (mostly) the games they should win and in the 90's in particular won against tOSU when they were forecast not to win. This is the direction Harbaugh is moving...toughness, not bullied, nastiness, hellacious defenses. Maybe this informs my thinking...

Three shutouts in a row validate it. Harbaugh is great and this team is very, very good.

I'm tired of the pollyanna approach following the PTSD of the last 7-10 years. Oh noes, Michigan might win...we better not acknowledge it... "bulletin board material"  "Hoke started 4-0", "11-2 Sugar Bowl" and on and on.

You have arguably the best coach in football, an elite motivator, NFL level assistants, the number one (1) defense in the country and an opponent who hasn't played anyone with a defense in the top 65. I'll take my chances calling a Michigan win.

Based on your logic why the hell do we even have a predict the score thread or Brian's preview.

To me, this looks like the 2013 game but with the sides reversed. Going into the game, we had been winning but looking shaky on both sides of the ball. MSU had been winning (like us this year, they had one close loss on the road) with a dominant defense. Most observers  didn't give us much of a chance to beat them in their house, and sure enough they kicked our butts.

If we had been doing what MSU's done this year (24-21 over Purdue, 31-24 over Rutgers, etc) and they had been doing what we've done (3 straight shutouts, etc) no one would seriously expect us to beat them. The only reason anyone's picking Sparty is because "MSU owns Michigan". (Never mind that we won the last time it was in Ann Arbor.)

I can see this game going either way... I can see a blowout, I can see a tight Maryland-like first half but for the entire game, and I can see a Sparty close win. I said before MSU played Purdue this would be our toughest game, and I still feel that way. I have Faith in Coach Harbaugh. He's got the Bo mannerisms, the Bo way of thinking, and just an exciting display of football even if it is "reinventing the wheel"

I'll take the computer over yet another delusional clown who doesn't realize that if Michigan hadn't bumbled the last two coaching hires, Sparty never would have risen to the level they're at now.

Objectively wrong. Check out his picks against the spread every week on ESPN. Both straight up and ATS his record is good. And he puts together information in that magazine that is totally thorough. He's wrong like anyone else, but idiot he is not.

you believe that show was renewed for two more seasons.  Don't get me wrong I think it is hilarious(even though it has markedly declined the last three seasons), but that makes it one of the longest running comedy series of all time I believe.  Seasons 11 and 12!  Wow.

Eh, no question they have not played up to their ability yet, and it's not unreasonable to think that we won't be able to sustain our ridiculous defensive numbers.  If the offense is forced to carry the load more, it will likely be a close game.

It's also hard to discount the fact that they're played above their talent level in this game for the past 15 years or so.  They're going to be ready, and it's going to be a fight.  I think Michigan will probably win, but it's not unreasonable in the slightest to pick State.

His ATS picks this year have actually been pretty good in his weekly best bets on ESPN column . He picked us to cover vs BYU but he also picked NW last week with the points .
