Every nine years? 1997, 2006, 2015
The 2024 defense is going to be AMAZING

was as good as any of those listed (yet they didn't fit the "every nine years" pattern).
What made them so special? How about NO touchdowns given up the final 22 quarters played that season, including OSU and Bo's first Rose Bowl victory (over Washington)!

And that lone TD was in garbage time against UNLV.

Our opponents haven't even reached the redzone since UNLV.

Does the extra point on a pick six still get counted against the offense? (probably.)

Ojemudia is an impact player and will be missed. Best of luck and truly hope it is nothing. To date we have been fortunate in evading major injuries with exception of Mone. Defense will keep us in contention for overimpressive season this year.

We put our defense in some precarious situations in this game, and we passed every test! We did not play a juggernaut by any stretch of the imagination, but I will take it! If we can handle the next few opponents in the same fashion, then I will get excited about where we rank defensively. Our resume just doesn't give me that special feeling yet. We can't lose any more defensive linemen, that is for sure. Just think if Mone was healthy and in rotation for a minute.
Way too early to tell? Maybe so, but I will enjoy seeing them make their case to be spoken of in the same breath as some of the great defensive units in Michigan history.

Not really. Unless RJS and/or Marshall are out and out liabilities, they should be fine. Ojemudia was steady. Not a game-changer.
I feel terrible for Mario but I'm happy for Jenkins-Stone. He's always had a lot of phyiscal ability and it looked like his eligibility would expire without ever getting a real shot. Well, that shot is here.

In 1997 the defense allowed 9.5 ppg which I believe still stands as the lowest total since 1985. Right now the defense is allowing just over 6 points per game. Obviously they still have some games to go, but I could see them holding Northwestern, Minny, Indiana, and Rutgers to at or below 10 points. PSU depends on how much they progress over the season. That leaves them, MSU, OSU, and the bowl opponnent. They could potentially end up beating that record of 9.5, but it is going to be insanely tough to do.

Downvoted for holding up the '06 defense as a shining star.
