1st team dominant and looks focused for PSU and OSU. Backups getting great reps which will come in handy later in year. We have been blessed by avoiding the injury bug.

Love these columns. I always think I will find one I prefer over the other but invariably it is a literary tie every time. Some of the best writing around, every week. Well done.

Great video. Enjoyed it immensely during a time of limited press. Thanks for the post.

Hard fought game so far…

Hard fought game so far. Time to see what this team is made of.

Dominating defense with…

Dominating defense with great play from our defensive playmakers. We can count on Hutchinson, Ross and Dax Hill to make plays. Their leadership is guiding others to step up and make plays. Hinton, Mazi, and the the D line stepped up.  Still have concerns about the secondary.

Cade played well. Reminds me of Brian Griese, who wasn’t great at anything but did most things well and didn’t make a lot of mistakes.  Cade doesn’t do stupid things, which is a big asset.  Never thought Griese was a great talent during the 97 season, but then Griese won the national championship. That team had tremendous discipline and talent in all three phases that allowed the 97 team to succeed, and Griese didn’t get in the way. It is way to early to prognosticate, but so far, with the exception of on bad half against Rutgers which play calling comes into question, mistakes have not been a big problem. We have only one turnover ( garbage time), and penaltities have been few. Credit the coaching staff for this. McNamara is our Griese. McCarthy is clearly the most talented and is the Tom Brady on this team. Nice to know we have a solid backup if needed and there is not a big drop if the starter goes down. Maybe he wins the starter job but so far McNamara has earned the job.

Special teams have also played well. Moody and Robbins are NFL talent. Returns are much more gratifying with AJ Henning fielding the catches. Again, credit the coaching staff for making the necessary adjustment. Nice to have this confidence  that special teams are not a liability.

Shout out to Fox for putting Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt on the game. Love this team and their game analysis. Two of the best in the business.

This post is making me dizzy.

This post is making me dizzy.

I would.  Knowing why you…

I would.  Knowing why you failed is a key ingredient to knowing how to succeed.  I think I already know the answer based off my personal UFR based off amateurish viewing (too many self inflicted wounds), but I am no expert and would love to see a breakdown on who and why.  One of the main draws to this site is the in depth review.

Loss:  expected

Harbaugh: …

Loss:  expected

Harbaugh:  Best we can get for now outside of PJ Fleck, but overpaid

Offense:  Improving under Gattis.  Keep.

Defense:  Needs to get better.  OSU decimates every year.  Brown hasn't been able to figure it out.

Expectations:  Low without major improvements.

I would dispel the notion…

I would dispel the notion that our academic reputation hinders on our football reputation.  UM academics has never relied on a winning football program.  Nor should the football program rely on an academic reputation.  Win games.  Be the best and the reputation follows.

Talent gets you by.  And…

Talent gets you by.  And wins championships.

Talent disparity is key.  We…

Talent disparity is key.  We have been out recruited by OSU every year.  Urban Meyer stated in his hiring press conference that success on the field is all about recruiting the best talent, and then you coach them up.  He is right.  Our problem is we have not been able to land top 4 recruitning classes like Bama, Clemson, OSU on a consistent basis, if at all.  Disparity this game was most evident on the offensive and defensive line.  Winning begets winning and this game will not help.

Taking the blame is what a…

Taking the blame is what a good coach should do.  But holding your players players accountable for bad decisions and poor play is not a foul.  Coaches can't avoid players making bad decisions.  Many times it an opportunity for learning and can be an instrument for improvement.  This late in the season is too late for this, and the players should know better.  Bad decisions determined this game.  Too many self inflicted errors made by Michigan.

Tough to insinuate…

Tough to insinuate snowflakes.  I love snowflakes.  But probably my bias and why I love Michigan winters.

Will be at the final stop on the revenge tour.  South until you smell it.  East until you step in it.  Let's go Blue!

If we win out, I think we…

If we win out, I think we are in the playoffs.  Lose anywhere, and we are out.  OSU with their loss to Purdue would be less likely than Michigan to make it in as a one loss team.  Alabama over LSU takes LSU out.  It is unlikey Clemson loses, although anything can happen, but Alabama and Clemson are near locks.  If Bama loses to LSU and (probably to  Georgia) in SEC championship game, the one loss teams are all in.  Oklahoma is still in contention and may be our biggest threat right now. ND will be in unless they lose, and a loss to NW (unlikely but possible) throws a real wrench into the equation.   Would love to see UM vs Bama in game one and UM vs ND for championship game.  This occurs if all three win out, as does Clemson .  Ultimately the best team needs to beat the best teams, so this scenario, while a long shot, would make us undisputed national champs.

Great post.

My expectations…

Great post.

My expectations preseason were 8-4 if I correct for homerism and were to place money.  After ND loss:  7-5.  Was already looking forward to 2019.

O-line was a major concern going in, with no preseason reports to suggest otherwise.  ND first half seemed to confirm all fears.  Shea was also a concern after ND, given all the publicity surrounding his recruitment and his potential, which wasn't obvious after game one.  Little did I know at the time that ND was legit, and this would be our worst game against our toughest opponent to date.

Since the ND game, our defense has outperformed my high expectations, our kicking game has outperformed my reasonable expectations, and our O-line has far exceeded my expectations.  Running game, receiver corp and QB have all been seriously legit and met what were in hindsight high expectations.  There have been games where play calling has been frustrating.  Looking back makes this look better, as we have won games, where in the past, similar play calling has led to bitter defeats.  Seems like we have more juice left going into fourth quarter, and we have been able to wear teams down with a power game mentality.

Kinnel and Metallus have been fantastic, where last year they were "ok".  DB's have been clutch.  D line has been extremely fun to watch and LB play has been exceptional.  On offense, I expected Hudson and Mayfield to replace the starters by now, but Runyon, Onwenu, and JBB have excelled.  Pass protection by the line and the backs has also improved exponentially, although still needs work.  Credit the coaches.

Under no circumstance after the ND game did I think we would be in the conference champ discussion or playoff contention in November.  Give credit to this exceptional group of players for rising to the occasion and overcoming adversity.  The season is a long way from being over and there is still a lot of football to be played, but it has been a fun season to watch and it has gotten better each week.  A good place to be.

Crazy choke. Iowa will tank…

Crazy choke. Iowa will tank in rank after this game if they can’t pull it off. . Better for us to play a higher ranked PSU, win out  and beat a better B1G West team for the conference championship. A lot to ask. Need to win next week and get some help to get LSU or ND out of our way. Would love to see a UM-ND rematch in the natty though.

Great idea and great post.   I do not recall seeing an offer like this before, but I love it and think you may be onto something.  Kudos.  Take me out of the running as I have my own tickets.  I hope your offer generates interest in the cause and leads to a great day with another father and son.

Return or not his recovery

Return or not his recovery has been remarkable. He is too young to fully understand the long term implications of his injury, but his Michigan degree and his fortitude will lead him to great things in his future endeavors, regardless of future playing time. Best of luck in all things young man!
