UM has four teams it faces ranked in new Top 25

MSU up to number four, almost number 3. Ohio State is the clear number 1. BYU and Northwestern are 19 and 23 respectively. As for teams already played, Utah is number 21. Thank god those four games are at home.

Early season polls are worthless. Northwestern is likely not top 25 calibur and BYU probably isn't either having lost Hill. I actually think we're probably top 20-25 territory but we'll have to get to 3-1 or 4-1 to see it

Why a coaches poll exists is beyond me. Coaches are notorious for working long hours and I suspect that 95% of the film they watch is of their own team and future opponents. They do not have the time to watch enough college football across the country to have an informed opinion. Aside from that, there is a conflict of interest for coaches when picking their top 25. Saban is going to vote for more SEC teams because that benefits his standing if it comes down to SOS. Just like Meyer or Harbaugh are going to give B1G teams as much preference as they can because it could potentially assist them. If we are going to have a coaches poll, they should not be allowed to put any team on their schedule in the rankings. Give each conference equal representation, say 6 per conference, so no one is outnumbered.

If I were doing it, I'd have a staffer provide me w/ an Excel spreadsheet showing, for each team receiving votes the previous week, the scores, a few stats, and a one sentence notable comment for each team.

I bet Harbaugh does something like this and has it down to a 5 minute activity.

I don't think Michigan would enter the top 25. Because our wins would've been over the unranked BYU, then deeply flawed OSU and (probably) a pretty bad UNLV team.

Edit: Looks like BYU is now ranked. So I'd have to say that there's a chance.

I think it will look a lot better. What that qb has grasped in three weeks is quite impressive. He is only going to get better. Show me the other 4 teams that OR will lose to and I might start buying.

As far as I could determine the two teams that took the biggest hit Saturday were the Razorbacks and ND. Actually thought this was a much ND squad than the one that lucked into the NC game. But show me a school not named OSU that can lose their top RB and QB in successive weeks and not have it hurt them.  AUB took a major hit as to credibility as well. Polls are good after about Week 6 or 7 but even then are defective if a team is either front or read loaded as to scheduling top opposition.

Yes people act as if (a) MSU sucks and (b) Oregon won't improve.

It's not easy to go across the country to play a top 10 team.  Ask Michigan fans - we have had trouble for 3 decades going across the country playing a top 25 team.  Adams has been on campus a whole month.  The "he sucks" is hilarious.  He will probably be the 3rd best QB MSU faces all year.  Everyone here excuses Rudock's suckitude with the INTs because he is "new" even though he has been here since May, while Adams "sucks" after being in Oregon for a month - and playing a far superior defense to anything Rudock faced.

Oregon's D is not good but they can outscore a ton of teams - the Pac 12 north is bot all that and their crossovers are USC, Utah and ASU.  They will beat Utah and be very competitive in the other 2.  Those are 3 of their 4 toughest matchups.  The north is basically a cakewalk this year.  Cal and Oregon might go 70-65 against each other but no one else in the north scores at a heavy clip.

I think people are underestimating Michigan at this point.  I am liking the fact that almost all anchors are saying it will take 3-4 years for Michigan to be back to an elite level.  They are setting the bar low. Harbaugh is setting the bar high, and the team will get a lot better as the year goes on.

Oregon State may not be very good, but Michigan took care of them like they needed to. Michigan showed signs of being able to run the football late in that Utah game, and things may have been different if they weren't playing from behind for the entire game as far as developing a strong running game.

We have a coach who will get the most out of his players, and despite what the media is saying, this team has a lot of undeveloped talent. The offensive line is showing some really good signs. If we beat UNLV and BYU I think we get into the rankings.

But have we physically dominated them? This game was pure physical dominance. We ran the power run over and over again and they couldn't stop it. Even when they started stacking the box they couldn't stop it. That's a great sign that we will be able to run the ball pretty well this year even against better competition. The trend is looking good, especially if you consider that the offensive line was relatively successful against Ohio State last year.

A lot of those other big margin wins came with a lot of passing and finesse.  This game was more about physically imposing our will.

We won games before mainly because we had a good dual threat QB. I agree that this was the most physically imposing game we had. We had big run games. But we didn't win those because we were running between the tackles over and over again. If we do the same against BYU, we are officially back.
