Braylon Edwards on SNF

Submitted by MGoGarbs on
Braylon introduced himself as being from "Lloyd Carr's University of Michigan." Think that's a hint at his displeasure towards RRod and the new regime? IME, if you're Blue, you're Blue, no matter who the coach is.

You all are really making Ohio State, Notre Dame and all SEC fans seem like rational, level-headed folks. Take off your tin foil hats. My God.

a lot to Braylon and that helped him on his path to the NFL...but there is no shortage of knowledge that RR and Bray got off on the wrong foot and who knows if that continues. This might seem to say it has.

The guy played for Lloyd, not Rich Rod so in fact he did play for Lloyd Carr's Michigan Wolverines. Plus he still puts up scholarship money for wide receivers, this is not a big deal.

Maybe he's tired of his college coach getting dragged through the mud? It's not a stretch to say there's been a LOT of negative things said about Lloyd and his legacy to explain what's happened at Michigan the last two years. At any rate, I think we're making a mountain out of a mole hill here.

Im not gonna crucify him just yet. Maybe it was just a shout out to his college coach and not so much ripping on RR.

it may have been 100% innocent, but Braylon must know that a comment like that is not going to help to smooth any dissension within the fan base. I can't speak for him, and yes this was very minuscule, but I'd be quite careful with my words and try and reflect nothing but support for my alma mater.

two second shout-out to his college coach and alma mater that no one besides Michigan obsessives noticed will keep us from beating Ohio State how? AHHHHH 244 DAYS TILL UCONN WOO

So...what, is Braylon Edwards Michigan's version of Manny Ramirez? He gets excused for all his antics? His comments about the #1 snafu (btw, did anyone bother to talk to RR about that behind closed doors first?), the Penn State shirt, and now this? It's just Braylon being Braylon? Ask yourself: Do you think Edwards would've said what he said if RR was winning? Why not give LC the shoutout every time? Why wait until RR is 8-16 in the hole? Some of you want to put your heads in the sand and chalk it up to "Braylon being Braylon", fine. You see a former player giving his old coach a shoutout. I see a guy who's never grown up and is being a petulant child because things aren't going the way he wants them to.

Maybe he's just giving props to his college coach. Or MAYBE he's *GASP* unhappy with the direction of the program and using his freedom of speech to voice that displeasure. HOW DARE ANYONE MAKE A PUBLIC COMMENT AGAINST OUR LORD AND CONQUEROR RICH RODRIGUEZ?!?!?!?! When you're an American citizen AND you give a large chunk of money to establish a scholarship at the University of Michigan, I think you have the right to say "Lloyd Carr's University of Michigan" and not be publicly vilified. Some of you guys are really uptight about anybody who doesn't toe the company line. Yeesh.

First of all, I don't think this is as big of a deal as people are making it, however, if he's unhappy with the direction of the program there are much more constructive ways of going about improving it than this. He has given scholarship money to the program and that's constructive, so he's obviously capable of doing positive things to make the program better. The recent situation is not at all helpful and only has the potential to make things worse. To what degree worse, I don't know, probabably not much...but this wasn't exactly the best way to make the program's situation any better. It's not about giving his undying support to Rich Rod and "toeing the company line"..it's about the combination of 1) helping the program whenever you can (as he did through scholarships) and 2) not hurting it (the opposite of what he did on SNF).

I'm sure he gets some shit for Michigan's failures from other players in the locker room. Not saying that I like what he said, but I interpret it as, "Yeah, I went to Michigan, but I played during the Lloyd years, so associate me with that."

And I'm pretty sure if Braylon has a problem with the direction of the program/Rich Rod/etc, we'll hear about it again/in other ways, too.

OMG OBVIOUSLY BRAYLON MISSED THAT PASS BECAUSE HE'S CAUGHT UP IN RIPPING RICH ROD AND LEON HALL MADE THE PLAY BECAUSE HE IS A TRUE MICHIGAN MAN AND DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING OUT OF LINE DURING THE STUPID NBC INTRO. Seriously, how much better would our lives be if noone was paying attention to the television about an hour ago. What a stupid thing to waste time arguing about.

Im not going to hate him quite yet. He still loves Michigan but doesn't quite care for RR and his tune could change WHEN RR dominates next year. Also Braylon gives a ton back to michigan unlike some other high profile NFL stars.

Wow, what a non issue this is. Unless you're into the TMZing of the sports world. Seriously, they showed a close up highlight of hall vs edwards and they talked about michigan vs michigan. recruits saw that as much as anything else. Man, y'all worry about way to fucking much. We just beat the buckeyes in hoops. we cant even enjoy that without the board freaking out about a player intro that nobody was probably even paying any attention to to begin with. Rabbit ears, anyone?

Braylon has given tons of money (not to mention effort) to Michigan. For any of us to even question him, for a SNF intro is ludicrous. He's shouting out his former coach, whom he obviously loves. Period. Stop being paranoid.

BigBlue02

January 3rd, 2010 at 10:44 PM ^

You would think with all that love, he would shout out for Lloyd in pregame and postgame pressers as well as during the game. Maybe a Lloyd Carr gang sign he can throw up after a dropped pass because he loves him so much. It was bush-league. Period. Stop excusing him for taking a shot at RichRod.

There is nothing wrong with Braylon not liking RichRod (if this is the case). He does not owe Rodriguez any loyalty and is entitled to his opinion. I think more than anything he is probably just frustrated with how things have gone for the Michigan the last few years and is just venting. No harm done, it's not like there isn't a portion of the fan base that feels the same.

BigBlue02

January 4th, 2010 at 12:09 AM ^

Well then I hope RichRod comes out and says "fuck Braylon Edwards, I am giving the #1 to whoever I want." I mean, RichRod doesn't owe Braylon anything and is entitled to run the team how he likes. What is that you say, it is tacky and gutless to take unprovoked shots at someone just because you have the medium to do so? Well, I am sure some people think Braylon was being a total prick by calling out RichRod on TV, so there is no harm done there.

Bando Calrissian

RR actually does owe something to Braylon: There are stipulations on the scholarship that he endowed. I doubt RR is going to do anything to make that substantial amount of money disappear, especially with the other scholarships Braylon has endowed at the University. At any rate, calm down, it was 4 words on a 5-second SNF intro. It's going to be OK.

The man has given a lot of money back to this university. Funded some scholarships, if I'm not mistaken. Keyshawn Johnson once introduced himself as from "the real USC" back when SC was struggling and South Carolina had a good year. I remember this distinctly. Not that big a deal. The man's emotional but his heart's in the right place I think.

Instead of not being pleased with the college you attended and its athletics program, namely the football team, focus on your career. How many playoff wins has Braylon led his NFL teams to? How many pro-bowls has he made? I loved Braylon as much as anyone while he was at Michigan but his run in the NFL has been less than stellar in all facets. He's been a problem child and likes to ruffle feathers so who cares what he says in his intro.

Unless he was stabbing a RichRod voodoo doll in the head, a Brandon Minor/Carlos Brown voodoo doll ANYWHERE, and simultaneously pissing on Bo's grave, color me unconcerned and uninterested. Maybe Braylon being upset with RichRod (if he actually is) is something that's worth noting. I also can't believe there are this many comments on this so late on a Sunday night. Holy overkill Batman.
