OT: 49ers Aldon Smith arrested for DUI and hit & run
San Francisco 49ers LB Aldon Smith was arrested last night for a DUI and hit & run. This is his third alcohol related arrest since entering the NFL. Hope he get the help he needs. The 49er defense on the other hand continues to take devastating losses when you add this to the retirement of Patrick Willis, Chris Borland, and Justin Smith.

0-16 is pretty hard to do. But they're for sure going to be pretty bad.

It takes a very special level of derp and incompetence to go 0-16. No matter how bad a team is, the idea of "any given Sunday" really is true in the NFL. From the Patriots right on down to the Raiders.
There's still a halfway decent amount of talent on that team, and Kaepernick alone probably buys them at least 2 wins.
Allow me to introduce you to 49ers Head Coach, Jim Tomsula:
I just love this video. He's such a goon. I can't believe that organization would allow him to make it through a job interview.

Worse than Hoke?? Hoke was outstanding with the media. Don't act all pretentious just cause we got Harbaugh.
Give the guy a break, the questions were dumb, "give me a name." I doubt any coach would answer a question.

I can't imagine what being a 49ers fan would be like. This off season has not been kind to SF.

Yeah, I have no idea what it's like to be a fan of a struggling football team.
Yeah, I have no idea what it's like to be a fan of a struggling (allegedly) professional football team.

Everybody...
As I'm clearly more loyal to Michigan & JH than Jed & Trent I can no longer call myself a fan, but I was a pretty die-hard Faithful - now I've vowed to see them implode!
But I can address how many SF friends & acquaintances feel: exactly like you'd think. They cannot understand or rationalize the end of Harbaugh's tenure, especially since the "lost the locker room" canard was exploded by all the retirements & defections following his departure.
They have no more faith in Baalke or trust in Jed. The new stadium is an ugly piece of crap, making some yearn for Candlestick (and any who read the "worst venue ever" threads saw how I felt about that place). The only prayer is a new QB coach/OC will find a way to raise Kap's game that JH was unable to do. On that there's hope, as he spent this past off-season working with Kurt Warner rather than getting arrested (though exonerated) for roofying disco dollies in Miami.
But the denial level among Trent & Jed is high - the front page of the Thur Aug 6 SF Chronicle sports page was a giant pic featuring Aldon Smith with Baalke's words: "Smith is a keeper"...

He has been given do many chances and just cannot get his life together. Needs to focus on personal demons before even thinking about football.
But much like the ohio marching band story on here the other day, when someone we don't respect has their true character exposed, we're not sorry.
Let Aldon become a living embodiment of all Trent & Jed's shortcomings and hypocrisy...

"Harbaugh's fault, probably."

and the check will soon be on it's way.

He can claim his innocence, but on DUI arrest number 3 it's not believable at all.

This can't all just be coincidence. Is this team literally trying to destroy itself?
This team was considered a top contender not just in the NFC, but the NFL for the last 4 years. Now they're likely going to have to fight just to win 6-7 games in a brutal NFC west.
I'm sure, though, that if you ask Jed York, this is all Harbaugh's fault.

Our favorite twitter troll Tim Kawakami has a couple thoughts on that this morning. Not going to embed all them, but essentially York and Baalke were the primary reasons the 49ers did not cut Smith last year after he got arrested. Baalke felt he could serve as a mentor and felt playing in the NFL would help Smith get back on track & stay focused.
It's all York and Baalke, but now the easy scapegoat is in Ann Arbor. https://t.co/1WUkPXz42x

He was really annoying during the coaching search, but he is becoming one of my favorite trolls now.
Hopefully Jed York has good pad level.

If he can't stop bending his elbow then get a fucking driver!

Well he didnt do anything REAL serious like deflate any footballs so prolly a one game suspension would be my guess.
I do believe that the NFL offers a driver service for it's players.
and it's free. Players who don't use the service are beyond stupid.
Hopefully, Aldon Smith can get the help he needs to battle through this problem - at this point, football should be the least of his worries as this behavior continued will certainly end badly one day.
As for the 49ers offseason in general, every article and event, whether it is retirements, departures or sadly this event, it has the feel of....
His first arrest got reduced to reckless driving. Otherwise he'd be looking at a 120 day stay at the grey bar motel.
Goodell will make a call and make sure he's playing week one. Nothing near as serious as what the Evil Tom Brady and Patriots did. Nothing to see here, Officer Roger "Barbrady" Goodell has this covered.
