His contract stipulated he be a FA five days after the season.  And this team was going nowhere with that bullpen (Did you watch last night's game?).  It's better to get something for him now and convince him in the offseason to play in 2016 and beyond in Detroit.

And your shitty GM built a team that four straight division winners and two AL pennants.  If Verlander, VMart and Cabrera were healthy all season, this team is likely at least five games better in the standings.

No fan of mid season trading. You set your team in spring. If you need to trade do it in the spring season or off-season. I enjoyed watching Price and Cespedus play baseball. Their not exactly getting crushed in the standings. Only three or four out. Many a team down through the year's has overcome deficits in standings. And it's easier now with added team's in playoffs. No fan of mid season trading. Go Tiger's. They can still do it.

This is uhhh... an extremely uninformed opinion. Again, the Tigers were an outside shot to make the playoffs, but does anyone honestly think that rotation and bullpen could win the World Series? Emphatically, the answer is no. Any smart manager knows when to cut bait on expiring contracts to maximize returns. If the Tigers stood pat and kept Price, Cespedes and Soria, they still likely don't make the playoffs and all three of those players could walk and they get nothing in return. Now, the Tigers have multiple promising tools for their pitching staff in 2016 and beyond.

And for those shitting on Dombrowski, realize he flipped Porcello, who is having a terrible year, for an All-Star first half from Cespedes, arguable their most consistent reliever this year, and now three prospects. That's a hell of a trade.

You don't win a playoff series with that type of performance.  I agree about the Cespedes/Porcello trade, but it only works out if either Cespedes comes back or those guys we got from the Mets pan out.  Porcello didn't forget how to pitch suddenly, so I expect him to bounce back next year.

Oh, and Dombrowski never could make that Fister trade good.  If he would've held onto Robbie Ray, it would be a good deal.  But he flipped that into Shane Greene.  I still think that was his only series of bad trades here.

They weren't going anywhere this year. The last thing we need is to win some pointless games and save Ausmus's job. It's time to retool in the offseason and start fresh with a new manager. Hopefully somone that has a clue and isn't "learning on the job".

Against the other wildcard team? That's only if they made up the ground to get thete. I think they had the third worst record in baseball since there hot start. They weren't going anywhete. These were good trades.

Seems fine. The 7th and 16th Mets prospects, which means they'll be in the top ten for the Tigers system. Two young right arms. Time will tell, but seems about right for two months of Cespedes.

Stop shitting on dombrowski, 5 quality arms for 2 players they weren't going to resign and one who said he wanted to resign in the offseason anyway. Don't be surprised if they resign YO .

Agree that Cespedus played out about as well as it could for Dombrowski.  I'd temper any enthusiasm folks may have for reeling him back to Detroit in November - pending FA are always advised to express a strong desire to return to your former team. It helps set a competitive bidding market.

Not crazy about what we got for Cespedes. Neither guy projects to be much of a contributor at the big league level. I guess after Price left and it was clear we'd folded the season, we pretty much lost our bargaining power.

And again Dombrowski has to trade an asset for arms. Why are there never MLB capable arms if the Tiger's spend every draft pick on an arm or an Avila?

I know they have moved pieces in other moves and that is part of the organization's stated plans but when the farm is always void of position prospects it just seems alarming there is the need to restock the arms as well. I don't follow the prospect world, but are we missing more often on the arms we are drafting?

The philosophy is similar to that with thoroughbred horses. Physiologically, the throwing motion of baseball pitchers puts a great deal of stress on the joints which leads to a high burnout rate. You have to assume a large percentage of the pitchers with talent and physical aptitude will see their careers end before they realize their full potential. Therefore, if a GM wants to fill his rotation with high quality arms, he needs to draft a lot of them all throughout the draft and see what makes it through the gauntlet.

Good for both teams. Mets might make postseason now and Tigers get a kid who should be either the #3 or #4 starter in 2017 and under contract for a long time. Fulmer is legit and may be ready for a mid season call up next year.

This is awesome for the Mets, someone who can actually hit the ball. And they are stacked with young pitching talent, they can afford this. I think it is good for both teams. Maybe he is a rental but after 9 years of missing the playoffs, if this guy helps the Mets make it, he's worth it.

But even if they don't it's ok. The Tigers have shown that they can go out and get hitters. Pitching is where they need as many bodies as possible so to that end I think these are all good moves.

The Tigers still have a solid core offense with Cabrera, V-Mart and JD.  They need PITCHING.  Verlander suddenly looks like he may actually be going back to being Verlander.  That is encouraging.  So if you can pick up 2 starters in FA, Pick up a big bat and then do SOMETHING with the bullpen, you have a team next year.  Plus now you have a ton of prospects and you hope a few pan out within the next few years so that you aren't pinning all your future hopes on Buck Farmer.

Obviously it remains to see who wins in all of the recent trades. I am just happy they decided to make the deals as opposed to keeping everyone because the return wasn't what they wanted. Honestly I doubt price would have resigned in Detroit so better to get something for the future.

Seems ok, though there were bigger names being mentioned for YC.

I'm not too eager to bring him back, even though he is having a great year.

1) He's about to turn 30, and the peak age for baseball is down to 27 and declining. It was up to 32 during the steroid era, time to adjust and avoid giving guys going down long, big contracts. I think YC will age less gracefully than most.

2) He's gonna get big money. 6 years, $120 easy. Tigers have to be a little sensible. I think we have 5 guys coming back at 105 million dollars, and we have a limit of something like 170 (the lux tax). keep in mind JD is due a big pay raise next year.

In the offseason, I want to see the Tigers go all in on Jose Altuve and Carlos Carrasco (which in Spanish means "the rascal"). The best young Venezuelan players in the game. The Tigers have had success creating a nexus of Venezuelan players.
