OT: Nike rebrands Army as "Army West Point"
This happened about a month ago.
NIKE has rebranded ARMY as "Army West Point".
Here's their new logo-
Navy cracked some jokes about it-
To recap, this is what Army is going by: Army West Point Black Knights Cadets The Corps

Like the new uniforms though. I've always liked Army's look.
My very first thought:
Why did they stick a large sword directly through their own forehead?
That was the very first thing I thought also.
Who the hell didn't realize it looks like they stabbed themselves in the head?
Absolutely the most hilarious helmet I've ever seen. And to think that this got the okay is even funnier.
It resembles the academy symbol.
Let's ask this guy:
DANGER ZONE
The Army Black Knights of West Point of Anaheim.

Sorry, the Marine Corps made me do it.
Et pluribus unum.
This ridiculous, scattershot, can't-make-up-our-fucking-minds dilution of Army's identity shows that Nike can be as stupid as Adidas can be.
Honestly, has there ever been a single accepted "brand"? They use Army in an academy context, but they're equally likely to be called West Point or USMA in others. I can also kind of see how Cadets could have lost a bit when USAFA came into being, but I definitely agree they need to pick one thing on the athletic side.
Or did Army rebrand Army?
Nike. I'm watching their rebrand unveil video right now.
you need to find a hobby or girl, in the mean time just go outside
I have a hobby, brother.
I make SuperGuides during the summer in addition to working.
If the super guide gets you some ladies, let me have one...

I got a match on tinder today.

It's summer and everyone is back home.
Exactly
Exactly
Why do you think tinder is so popular? You think all the older segments of the population are using it?
There has to be at least one pick up line that uses "super guides". I say we crowdsource it here and WD can write a diary to let us know how well it ended up working.
as the Army doesn't have a ton of MBAs in marketing running the show.
Video^
The video didn't say anything about who approached who. For all we know, Army went to Nike with the idea.
I have no doubt that someone whose job title is likely 'branding specialist' was paid a hilarious sum of money to tell Army how to improve their football brand. What stuns me more is that someone within the Army actually said OK
Army West Point Athletics introduces a new brand and identity system that sets the visual direction for years to come. With the goal of developing an innovative and consistent athletic identity that pays tribute to the Academy's legacy and tradition, U.S. Army and Academy leadership, Army West Point Athletics, Nike, current and former cadet-athletes, coaches, historians and West Point graduates, collaborated on a nearly 18-month brand evolution program. As part of the new identity, all 28 athletic programs will showcase consistent logos, colors, lettering and numerals.
I don't even know how to respond to this. I imagine even the West point cadets are laughing about this one.
I’ll clue the Academy into one perspective from outside: The civilian world loves our tradition; we should embrace it and stop manufacturing an identity crisis every 15 years.
The logo looks like Sparty but stabbed through the forehead with a short sword while in a kneeling position. Seems a little defeatist...
Their branding website. Very confusing.
Do I get to call a friend?
Ok. I'll say... "Cadets." Final answer.
At least the uniforms were kept more or less in tact.
Nike is going by "Army West Point?"
University of Michigan Ann Arbor Wolverines The Victors....? Glad Nike is taking this rebranding thing seriously. They have actually rebranded Army 3-4 times with their intial rebranding, has to be some sort of record...sorry if all that brand rebranding is confusing.
