Pick one Jaylen Brown or Caris Levert
Not all #1 picks are the same. Like others said, they draft based on potential as much as proven ability. GRIII was the most coveted draft pick on the team after his freshman year, but he certainly wasn't the best player on the team.
This is about next year, not choosing between peak-NBA careers.
Caris LeVert
Tough choice. Normally, I would definitely go with LeVert for the experience. But you only get one more year of that. And Brown is a truely exceptional talent, and there's enough other experience around him to make up for his lack of experience). He may only stay for one year, but there is a chance you can get two from him. It's a tough call. I would say it hinges on how much you really feel you could get Brown to hang around for a second year (and there are indications he's not totally a one and done).
But the correct answer, obviously, is both.
Caris is going to be drafted at some point...
That is great and all, but I don't give many shits about what players do after their college career unless one of them is on the Cavs (I'm from Cleveland). I hope they do well and am happy if they do, but I care more about what they do for Michigan. Caris is likely a sure thing next season, assuming he is healthy; Brown is not.

Brown is probably the better player. Hard to vote against a 4 year senior who has given a lot to the Michigan program. Until things change in the NCAA, you really have to think you need the one and done type player to win the whole thing. I'm not saying I want 3 or 4 of them every year, but players need to know that Michigan is a place that welcomes that type of player too. Maybe Brown can start that trend.
That's what makes Brown more enticing, IMO. He could greatly improve our recruiting by showing the one and done can succeed in Beilein's offense.
I think it would be beneficial to have a top-flight recruit succeed here and go pro after year one. We have seen Michigan successfully turn lower ranked recruits into pros, but having someone like Brown jump pro after one year might make the 5 stars look at Michigan more seriously. Even McGary, our best recruit under Beilein, ended up here 2 (and nearly 3) years. Beilein can pitch "we'll get you to the NBA" or "we'll make you a lottery pick." As of now he can't sell "we'll get you there in one year," while the other top-tier schools can.
Jaylen Brown. More upside and more athletic. Love Levert but he is not the player Jalen Brown will be.
Nope.
I'd rather not
Caris has been great for Michigan, and he's outperformed pretty much every expectation we had for him when he committed. But he will be a senior who has struggled with injuries over the last year, and he also struggled a little bit being the number 1 option last season, shooting only 42%. I hope he can go pro and be drafted in the first round still and have a long career in the NBA. That being said, I would rather take Brown and really see what Beilein could do with a player of his caliber. I think another positive of getting Brown is for the future of recruiting. If Belein can land the top recruit in a draft class, I think future top recruits will notice that and, depending on Brown's success, will follow suit in future years.
Jaylen Brown.
except 2 of them this year did not...Wisco and MSU

Last night? I remember a couple players for Duke being much better than him last night. I mostly remember Winslow from that game for being in foul trouble.
I'd pick Caris as he is the most realistic option.
Caris
Man, I'm not superstitious at all, but considering how our luck (obvious HARBAUGH exception) has been, I feel like we're tempting fate to leave us with neither of them!
Picking Brown is ridiculous. Levert is one of the leaders for Big Ten player of the Year next year. You really think Brown will out perform that? Whoever is picking Brown is also calling for the back up quarterback to play after every incompletion.
+1000 ziff
Yes, it's very possible Brown can outperform that. Or did you not see how D'Angelo Russell and Melo Trimble played this year? Russell would've been the Big Ten POY if not for NPOY Kaminsky.
Yes, it is possible. It is possible that he is Michael Jordan reincarnated. It's more probable that he is a really good freshmen that is not even close to a guy that lead the team in Points, rebounds, assists and steals.
There is no way you can take the chance that Brown could be ever so slightly better than Levert vs the giant chasm he could be behind Levert.
I watched the Mcdonalds game and I saw a guy with great athleticism who missed all his free throws. That on it's own doesn't mean squat either way but he did not blow me away, which if it was probable he would be B10POTY he should have.
No surprise coming from Stringer(chief Beilien hater) and king of the grass is always greener fan club.
I'm a Beilein hater? That's news to me. Also I don't see how that would be relevant when talking about a top recruit. In fact, that's even less relevant than the high school all star game that you're judging this kid's entire game on.
I'm a huge Caris fan, but he isn't without his own question marks.
repost
He gets to graduate, we know him, he gets to finish on top instead of riding the pine. Has great chemistry with current players, has put in his due.
Sure Brown would be awesome too, maybe even get a second year, possibly open up more top 1-2 year and NBA recruits but I'll take a 4th year senior boss graduating with a degree over that every time. Issue is Beilein, Jordan and the players have been developing so well that they've been leaving early lately.
If this was a choice we had to make though, absolutely cannot go wrong either way.
For me, it is more of a loyalty thing to the current players. Caris is already a UM student athlete who I have enjoyed immensely watching play and develop. His growth and development under Beilin exemplifies why I find Michigan BB so much more enjoyable than watching a semi-pro team like Kentucky.
With that said, I've also been impressed with the snippets I've read on the news about Jaylen Brown. I don't think we can just assume he is a one-and-done because he is so talented, as evidenced by his interest in the Michigan academics. Perhaps I am reading too much into this, but I remember reading an article about his yoga practice, and he seems to have a level of self-awareness that is not typical for someone his age. I could see why he might be drawn to Ann Arbor.
because we MIGHT get more than one year out of him but also talking about how talented he is that means we probably won't get more than 1 year out of him. Next year's team with either will be really good. I'd take Caris for the leadership role. Something we really missed after both he and Walton went down.

LeVert. I don't know why some people say Brown. We know what we have with Caris. Experienced and good senior leadership is rare these days. I'll take him.
Plus, Spike is having what looks to be significant surgery. Having seniors, especially in the B1G, is necessary, given the more physical defense (i.e. fouls) allowed and the lack of young teams. I think the conferences with the blue bloods, with their one and dones, tend to be younger teams from a high level view, but it seems in the B1G, we are always the youngest rotation of players.
I would take Caris.
I pick Jaylen LeVert or Caris Brown.
The operative word in your statement being "if." Brown is unproven at the college level. I know it's unfair to say that since he hasn't played yet, but Caris is proven talent.
Levert.. Very dumb question. If Mr. Brown was so in love with Michigan he would already be signed!
