OT: COACH is coming back!!!
Don't know how many people were fans of the show, but NBC has ordered a 13 episode sequel to the Craig T. Nelson starred show....having Nelson revise his role as Hayden Fox and becoming an assistant for his now-grown son at an Ivy League school. Themes sound somewhat familiar....
Additionally, I heard a tidbit on the radio this morning that Key and Peel are supposedly making a movie based upon the Substitute Teacher skit, famously coining the term "A-A-RON." Can't wait for that one!

LUTHER
EDIT: surprisingly, per wikipedia, the entire main cast is all still alive!

Jerry Van Dyke was just on The Middle.

My only exposure to the show was occassionally running into it while channel surfing as a teenager. I usually made it about 30 seconds before I couldn't tolerate it any longer and moved on to seinfeld re-runs.

This seems like a good idea to me.
123blue's avatar is Craig T. Nelson as Hayden Fox in "Coach".

Loved this show. Ive been watching some of the old episodes on Netflix. I'll definitely be checking this out!
March 27th, 2015 at 11:22 AM ^
Over the past month or so I watched EVERY episode, and it has stood the test of time. It was one of the few shows I ever watched religiously when it aired each week/season back then.

"Caoch" was one of my many "will not miss unless dire emergency" shows back in the day and I was really into it from day one as was the rest of my family. Like others, I have been rewatching it periodically on Netflix and even introducing my wife to it, although her reply was, "You WOULD like this show..."
Great to see this one being revived in some form actually.

Coach and Roseanne reruns would air at 5 and 5:30 pm. Can't recall why the hell we'd watch Roseanne but Coach was great.

is coming back, I'm afraid it wont be close to what it was. I loved that show, but it was mor about the cast of characters than Hayden Fox himself. Im cautiously optimistic.

Craig T. Nelson was good, but you're right, the supporting actors on that show were what made it a great show to me. I'll probably give the new show a look to see how it is.
Side note: What this move by NBC tells me, is that they are all out of fresh ideas and are desperate for a hit show, since they've had so many failures lately.

True dat
Never watched Community but as a Sci-Fi fan networks are all about the flash-in-a-pan eleventy billion viewer a night shows rather than solid performers so I feel your pain.

Kinda like Hogan's Heros.
Schultz, Klink, Bulkhalter, Hochstetter.
LeBeau, Newkirk, Carter, and Kinchloe.
They made the show.
Did U know? Werner Klemperer (Klink) won awards in his role but John Banner (Schultz) never did?
March 27th, 2015 at 12:58 PM ^
Yeah - both Klink and Schultz were stupendous. Now that my friends was a good show.
March 27th, 2015 at 11:59 AM ^
Maybe he can have a bit of a role that doesn't involve too much moving around. Maybe AD or something.

So this takes place at some unnamed Ivy League school in Pennsylvania (I wonder what school that is?) that is just starting up a football program (despite the Ivy League being based on football), and they decide to hire Coach Fox's 18-year-old son as head coach. Or do kids age faster when they aren't on TV?
March 27th, 2015 at 12:01 PM ^
I tuned out when he coached in the NFL. The show got stale real fast for me what that happened. So if they had a child then, I would've completely missed it.

Yeah. Coach was shootin' blanks so they adopted a boy in season 9 which was 18 years ago.

I just hope that the government doesn't have to financially help this coach.

Whoa, I totally forgot he was in that movie, Poltergeist. That little girl was creepy.

So they are bringing the show Coach back. If his career followed a normal trajectory wouldn't he have Mack Brown's job on College Football Live?

I love Friday Night Lights. Clear Eyes Full Hearts, Can't Lose.
I've never seen a single frame of this COACH show. I might have to check it out on netlflix since people seem to speak highly of the show.

The game program's cover featured a picture of Hayden Fry with Hayden Fox. Couldn't find it anywhere online, darn pre-internet days.
Hayden Fox. Also refer to the team from South Bend as the Fighting Amish of Nosferatu and Columbus as the Armpit of the Universe. So there's that.
March 27th, 2015 at 10:27 PM ^
That Columbus was farther down the anatomical scale than that ie. the Asshole of the Universe.
I did love Coach though, bring back the whole cast.
Hayden Fox was not only based on Hayden Fry, but the series filmed a lot of exterior shots on the Iowa campus. One of the writer/producers was an Iowa grad.

FIrst, Shelly Fabares has probably aged, and, second, back then, he coached at a non-existent school named Minnesota State, and now, Minnesota State is the number one seed in the NCAA Hockey tournament.
