JUB says Wheatley has accepted the job

I can't post a link from my mobile device, but check JUB's twitter feed...No surprise, obviously, but good news nonetheless. For example, Sam Webb said today that he thought Wheatley would make a difference with Weber's recruitment (though not necessarily swing it Michigan's way).

And with that particular hire, I will say that I am getting to like these "Welcome Home" sorts of posts. More or less literally in this case, as Wheatley not only went to Michigan but is a Detroit area native (Robichaud grad, I believe). Hoping to see another generation of running backs evoke the words "THEY WON'T CATCH HIM!"

Honestly, what other school has a RB Coach who was as big a stud as Ty?!!!! All he has to do is pop in the above tape to recruits and say "Son I think I know a little about the runnung back position"!!!!!!

Wheatley also has a couple B1G rings to show, a Rose Bowl ring to show.  If he felt so inclined, he could also show his Rose Bowl MVP award.

Wheatley had the better pro career, which recruits like to hear.  And he coached in the NFL for two seasons.

I respect Mike Hart a lot, but Wheatley is overall a better candidate for the position.  For a kid that has NFL aspirations, walking Tyrone Wheatley into a living room gets a bit more attention.

Tyrone Wheatley, Rose Bowl MVP for Big Ten Champs. Mike Hart, not so much. Wheatley's Rose Bowl MVP game was the closest thing I ever saw to video game dominance by a RB until Adrian Peterson (caveat-- I only saw one Barry Sanders in college game live). Everytime Tyrone touched the ball, if he broke one tackle he took it to the house. And at 240 lbs, he broke a lot of tackles.

I like me some Mike Hart as much as the next guy, but overall in recent M history, I'd take Wheatley and Leroy Hoard over Hart. Hoard was just as good a runner as Hart and had surprisingly good hands / moves in the screen game for a primarily power running back.

I love me some Ty and love me some Hart. Apples and oranges are both fantastic. Let's not denigrate one at the expense of the other.

I'm proud of each and how they carried themselves in A2 and since. Let's bring the house together.

amen. i remember both. they were both great in their own way.

ty wheatley was probably the most talented back to play for michigan in my lifetime (i am 35). best combination of size, speed, power, and balance.

mike hart and jamie morris were probably the most determined backs to play for michigan in my lifetime. both were undersized, underrated coming into college, and underestimated. they both played low to the ground and always kept their feet moving.

I love the mix of Michigan guys and great coaching ability on this staff. It's what Hoke should've been aspiring for when he did the 'Michigan Man' thing. Some are Michigan guys already, others are now

So does Wheatley have much of a track record as a recruiter and a coach?  Detroit will be his recruiting area and I don't remember Syracuse pulling any recruiting upsets in the area when he was there.

A nice hire, I guess, but not really a home run.  I know the guy has coached in the pros but he got that job by following Doug Marrone there, and Marrone was a questionable hire for that job in the first place.  I like that he will bring a passion for Michigan and that he will at least have some extra credibility for having been in the pros.  I don't see much of a track record there, though, good or bad.

Coached and recruited S.E. Michigan for EMU.  Coached (very well) RB's at Syracuse and recruited Detroit.  Coached (very well) RB's for Buffallo Bills.  Significantly stronger coaching/recruiting experience than Mike Hart. Hart would be a great plan B though.  He could do it I believe.  Wheatley may have a better sense of coaching big backs too which entails some different skills so it's good that he has done it, coached it, and recruited it.

Please don't tell me you have to dust it off.  I had an autographed Jim Harbaugh/Charles Woodson Charity Golf Outing program from 1999 in a box for 15 years.  I forgot all about it until last week when I uncovered it in the bottom of the box.  Fortunately it was in the same condition, but I would've been crushed if it was messed up in any way.
