But seriously though, who is Plan B?
Miles says "no" strangely, Mullen says no contact, no smoke around Mora, etc. Meanwhile, Kawakami is adamant that Harbaugh is an NFL guy. So who is our Plan B? Is anyone else hoping that we at least get rejections from Patterson and Stoops to indicate that we at least TRIED? If Harbaugh ends up not being the coach, who do we end up with?
And if it's Schiano I QUIT LIFE.

has been around for several weeks. I think it is true and all that is waiting is for Jim to way his options and accept the deal or decline it if he is interested in an NFL team. I don't think Jim will be making a decision until after the last 49ers game. He doesn't have the time. I hope he picks Michigan but does not, I hope we offer the same type of money contract to entice a good surprise coach as our plan B!

Harbaugh strikes me as more of an antsy guy. I doubt he'd sign up for 10 years right off the bat, and additionally thats an insane amount of money for a University to commit up front. I think all the 5 year rumors are more likely

the mention of Payton and John Harbaugh, neither of whom are coming here, makes this obviously crap

It just said high paying donors have been feeling out the waters. It's very possible someone affiliated with Michigan did contact them and they said 'not interested' or 'very, very unlikely'

SEC coaches may not be on the list. That could rule out both Miles and Mullen. I guess I'm not really excited about Mora. I doubt we offer a sweet enough contract to get an established coaches like Bob Stoops. I like the fact we are swinging to the fences for Harbaugh but if we strike out we could end up someone like Schiano. I will be pissed at my University if this were to occur!

As mentioned above.
I'd prefer a younger NFL coodinator like Adam Gase or Teryl Austin to some old ass Tom Couglin. I understand some coaches can be 100 years old and get the job done, those coaches are usually guys with their names on the field and statues in front of the stadium.

...but I'd still take Baby Stoops, Austin or Gase (with a highly touted coordinator on the opposite of their expertise) over McDaniels.
McDaniels is in the Schiano category for me personally. He's probably leading that pack, but that's not the pack you want to be in.

or maybe NOT!

like Payton or John H, I'd have to think Stoops gets the first call, Les the second - After Jim, that is.
Stoops would be great.

I don't want Schiano anywhere near our program, but I just don't know who else would be an option besides him or Addazio. And clearly no one wants Addazio, either.

I will start my countdown clock for the next Harbaugh coach offer in 2 to 3 years. But by that time Michigan football will be in much worse shape. If we don't get a top notch coach this time then we are doomed!

If you go the Teryl Austin/Mark Stoops/Adam Gase route...here are some realistic potential coordinators based on recent success.
Offensive Coordinators (Austin and Stoops have a DC background)
Randy Sanders - FSU
Bob Cole - NIU
...maybe Noel Mazzone at UCLA if you can pry him away from the west coast. Everyone else seems pretty locked in by region.
Defensive Coordinators (Gase has an OC background)
Todd Grantham - L'ville
Hank Hughes - UConn
Brian Stewart - Maryland
Bob Shoop - PSU
Tyson Summers - UCF
Dave Aranda - Wisconsin
...maybe Curt Mallory - Michigan
Gase/Grantham is a serious combo. Both have a small MSU tie so they know the landscape.
Stoops/Sanders is another serious combo. Both have Tennessee/Kentucky/FSU connections.

- Because he cheated
- Because he's no longer a coach - he's the president of a University.
- Because when he was a coach - he was a legend for our biggest rival, it would be a little hypotcritcal going on the road and talking up the school you badmouthed and talking down on the school you praised for so long...right? Would any parent or coach believe what you're selling? Yes? Probably because you're still cheating.
- Because we have a President who gives a shit about academics, prestige, etc.
- ...wait, why am I doing this? You know EXACTLY why that's the dumbest idea ever.
Why don't we go get Dantonio? We can surely pay him more than MSU can.
Jeez. Some people get to the point with this CC stuff that brain cells just completely shut down.
If this sounds like you, just turn off the computer and come back in a month. I promise you it'll be all over.

Not sure if people have written about Schiano in more details, but a couple of points to add.
First, since he's done something as a head coach, he is IMO much better than Addazio (who's done nothing) or a current assistant coach (no matter how accomplished).
Second, his teams have some of the highest APRs in the country. You can't take that away from him.
Third, Schiano deserves praise for identifying (and developing) good players who were lightly recruited. A number of his NFL players like Ray Rice, Tiquan Underwood, Mohamed Sanu, Devin McCourty and Brian Leonard were lightly recruited, if at all, but turned out to form the nucleus of Schiano's good teams.
The issue with that, however, is that all of those players are from the NJ area. As far as I'm aware, Schiano has never recruited in the midwest or the west coast. He has (and Rutgers continues to) recruited in south Florida, but outside of the "state of Rutgers" (NJ, eastern PA, downstate NY) and south Florida, he has very little recruiting experience.
This is in no means an endorsement of Schiano. It's merely a statement that he may be able to find "diamonds in the rough." I can see a situation where he's hired, keeps Nussmeier (Schiano always ran a pro-style offense anyways), focuses his efforts on defense, and hires some assistants with midwest / west coast recruiting experience, and fields good, but not great teams.
This is better IMO than taking a complete flyer on an unknown coach or an unproven assistant.

F plan B.
Burn the ships.
The longer this takes, the more likely Jim is coming to his stated favorite town during his nomadic life. Bo is his coaching inspiration. What is more soul-satisfying than restoring his legacy?
Gentleman (and ladies) (and idiot douches Jeff Moss and MICHBRO1-99), batten down the hatches. Prepare for another couple weeks of pain. This search isn't just going deep.
It's going Harbaughls Deep.
