Wasn't he the first commit of his class? Wasn't he also the one who came up with the T-shirt idea? Hate to see him go but good luck to him.

I must say. He really seemed like a UM guy and not just a coach guy.

One of the last guys I would expect. Wow.

why not wait until xmas break is over and you know who the new coach may be?
December 16th, 2014 at 12:06 PM ^
Perhaps it has more to do with the players he knows are on the depth chart than the coach wo may be coming... Or, moving closer to home, it is a non-football issues

very Zen: There is no depth chart because there is no coach....

Well. Alright.
December 16th, 2014 at 11:47 AM ^
WOW. I honestly can't believe he would transfer. He was all about Michigan it seemed. He was one of the main engineers of the last recruiting class. Thought he would have stuck it out.

I mean, how could ending the search not be a positive? As long as we hire a top notch coach (Harbaugh) it should definitely make a positive impact all the way around.

Who signs his release from the university? I thought it was the coach who signs off on kids transferring and with no coach in place is it just someone in the AD's department?

Interesting choice. I thought he would go to Miss St./Florida (if they hire the DC) since they think he is a baller.

Anybody have that pic of his room back home compared to his brothers?
He is going to have a bunch of stuff to box up...
December 16th, 2014 at 11:53 AM ^
Probably has something to do with being closer to his family, otherwise this makes no sense.

I hear you. He also may have the opportunity to play for the best coach in football, who also has high character - and he goes to Dana Holgerson?

Did Saban or Belichick offer?

Nonfootball players with 4.0s in high school struggle at U of M
December 16th, 2014 at 12:57 PM ^
I had a 4.0 in HS and still found my freshman year of Engineering at UofM to be very challenging. I can't imagine doing Engineering and Football at UofM. The commute alone would eat up an hour of every day.

At least it's not Jabrill. This is what will help me get through the potential wave of transfers. Unless Peppers is part of that wave...

Nothing said is always better.
Knocks on wood.
December 16th, 2014 at 12:04 PM ^
The positive if you will for Jabrill is his NFL aspirations. Sitting out a year when the guy most likely will want to go to the NFL early doesn't make much sense. Even if he was in a situation he hated he basically would have to fulfill 2 years and then leave for the draft. Transferring anywhere makes that 3 years.
December 16th, 2014 at 12:14 PM ^
who wouldn't want Charles Woodson as their DB coach?

Never like to see kids go, but in a time of uncertainty like this, it seems likely that things like this will happen. It is a shame, as I was rather intrigued by what the ceiling on Ferns might be once we had a chance to see him.
The one thing we will always have, however, is that his commitment spawned 12-13 duplicate "Hello: Michael Ferns" threads. It was an epic event on the blog indeed.

Is anyone on staff right now, or would talking to players like Ferns fall to Hackett? Good luck to him. Sad to see him go, after he worked so hard to put together a top recruiting class. Thought he might have waited to talk to the new staff.
