My guess would be someone lower profile like Mike Leake or Tony Cingrani (assuming it's a starter). Tigers don't have the farm or available position players to pull Cueto or Latos.

Great another guy who hits 260 and stikesout a lot... So how about re-tooling the pen since no one in the pen can pitch.
December 11th, 2014 at 10:17 AM ^
I agree with your sentiment but... With Cabrera and Vmart in the line-up he adds protection to them and if pitchers decide to pitch around those two they will have Cespides waiting for them (assuming he's our #5). Also, have you seen this dude throw? We haven't had an outfielder like him in LF for as long as I can remember. Definitely an upgrade from the Delmon Young's and Andy Dirks' of the world.

I'm 55 and pretty sure I could have gotten closer to home plate than that.
December 11th, 2014 at 12:30 PM ^
get him. Oh well.
December 11th, 2014 at 10:33 AM ^
he's likely to play center field unless Gose ends up being better than, well, projected. he only played left field in Oakland because Crisp had "seniority" and purportedly whined about being moved.
Assuming we get another pitcher, I like the trade.

where they can take advantage of his arm. i see gose and davis getting the lion's share of games in CF; especially if gose can hit > .250. JD martinez then can play LF and not hurt you much there.
December 11th, 2014 at 12:38 PM ^
as the Oriole series proved. The Os were instructed to run on Davis no matter what. And they did.
December 11th, 2014 at 11:49 AM ^
Cespedes isn't a great fielder in left field, putt him in a huge center field like Comerica and he'll bleed runs.

Maybe the septuple post will have a significant meaning in some part of Cespedes' production. You know multiple posts: so maybe HR in 7 multiples of 7, or maybe an increase in 7 different offensive categories that HELP the team win multiple 7 game series?

too chill with routine plays...if you look at his assists that he had vs laa (he had like 4 last year), the ones that get a lot of replays are off misplays...he wasnt trolling/baiting runners
the arm is gawdly, tho...but he needs to be reminded constantly by roc nation that hes in a contract year and needs concentrate and hustle more often

No!!!!! Yes!!!!!
I'm not sure how I should feel.
I also panicked when I saw "CJNitkowski" and thought "did the Tigers trade for him?!".
December 11th, 2014 at 10:15 AM ^
No idea what type of pitcher Porcello is? any good?
Cespedes is what he is. Monster arm. Swings for the fences. Strikeouts. I liked him but he became expendable quick.
December 11th, 2014 at 10:16 AM ^
doesn't strike out a lot of batters, eats innings. Not an ace but a solid #2 starter
December 11th, 2014 at 10:23 AM ^
Solid. Seems like a trade that benefits both
December 11th, 2014 at 10:50 AM ^
alot. he has come into his own and matured with his pitching.
December 11th, 2014 at 10:51 AM ^
look like a pansy after beaning him a few years back. Youk threw his helmet at him and Porcello took him to the ground.
December 11th, 2014 at 11:12 AM ^
This. You can't hit it over the monster if your hitting ground balls. I would have felt much better about this if Rick was going to the National League. I hate the thought of facing him next year.
December 11th, 2014 at 11:38 AM ^
are going up in a positive way. He is even missing more bats. He is coming into his own and will be a good to great pitcher for years to come. The stat that I like about Cespedes is that he drives in runs. I believe there will be a lot of runners on for him next season.

Porcello is the very definition of a pitch to contact, ground ball pitcher. His K rate is usually in 5-6 K/9 range. I think 2013 was his career best year in that regard with around 7 K/9. That was not sustainable for him. Very low walk rate; usually less than 2 BB/9. He's a heavy sinker-baller, typically in the 50%+ ground ball range. He's at his best when he's generating tons of ground ball outs. If your infield is good, then he'll be a great fit.

Sounds like a great pitcher for Fenway

I think this is a greate trade. The Tigers sold high on Porcello.

Classy guy, just coming into his own. Sinkerballing righty who will protect your LF wall very effectively. I think he's only 25 or 26, but already has tons of MLB experience. His smooth throwing motion looks like something with many many more innings left in it. Sad to see him go.
How is Cespides off the field? Trouble or a good guy?
December 11th, 2014 at 11:26 AM ^
Seems like a solid guy. He was great with fans. Would have been a fan favorite had he stayed. The media here made it seem as if there was trouble in the clubhouse with coaches and cespedes. Being in Boston you have to be skeptical of these reports. My guess they wanted to do an extension immediately after the trade, he said he wanted to test free agency and they decided to trade him.
December 11th, 2014 at 10:18 AM ^
Can CJ Nitkowski stil get a few outs in the bullpen? Someone tweet at him and see if he wants to stop reporting and get back in the game. Be our 6th inning guy..........

Cueto would be awesome. He seriously deals. I watch a ton of Reds baseball and Cueto has been doing real well just doesnt get much run support.
I like Latos a bit too but he is not as consistent.
If they got Chapman, that would be weird. I dont like paying relivers in the off-season, but Chapman is obviously very talented. He got up after an injury that could end a career and said screw it. He's got balls.
December 11th, 2014 at 10:25 AM ^
The Tigers don't have the farm system to net any of those guys.

My guess would be that its Leake.

This is all an added plot and is another smokescreen for Harbaugh to Ann Arbor.
