Two things came out of this..
Defense played very well and we need more of that
Offense still struggles, cant always win with FGs

Oh yeah great moral win for the guys..Hoke still shows he cant coach

extremely limited capabilities. O is decimated without Green, K a Hill, Magnuson injuries - let alone Gardner and Funchess hobbling. Mattison put guys into a few key blitzes that changed the game. Special teams were very good (other than Clark's stupidity on the 1st onside) and the guys played with energy. Hoke should get a lot of credit for not losing the team.

Trying to be optimistic - even though our team "severely underperforms," I'm so glad the players got the win. It's a heckuva lot better to go into East Lansing coming off a win than a loss. Go Blue!

We have plenty of time to talk about that trip which does scare me but intrigues me also. We literally have nothing to lose going into that game. If we lose well we all expect it to be a blowout anyway. If we win though we may actually have a shot to make it to Indianapolis although that would depend on Michigan winning out and the winner of OSU-MSU to lose one other game. Don't think Rutgers is going to win out and then there would be some insane tiebreakers which UM might have a shot at winning since we would have wins over OSU, MSU, and PSU. Far fetched I know but I'm going to dream. I can't not root for this team and hope we pull off a minor miracle in Bisb's town.

The D came up strong. Love it that GM didn't fall into prevent late in the game but kept the pressure on. The O is still an absolute mess and now a collection of walking wounded. Players are getting hurt because they are so out of position all the time.

The one thing I can positive about our coach is the "Hoke's double pointy thingy" when PSU was trying to fake it in the 3rd quarter.

That was a classic.

At worst they score, at best you do.

Assume for the sake of argument that they have a 1% chance of scoring..which might be generous, and you have a 1% chance of scoring should they make a mistake...which also is probably generous.  That means there's a 98% chance of no change of status quo.  I'd take that risk every day of the week.  For not taking the risk, which wasn't much of a risk, there is absolutley no chance of a reward.

No harm no foul, people just have to find something to bitch and moan about.

If he calls it right away, there's 11 second to go, and PSU punts because it's not worth the risk that they don't make it and the clock doesn't run out.  With the timeout, Michigan can go for the block.  Not choosing to do that at 11 seconds, then you just let the clock run out.

But, with only 3 seconds to go, it's a no brainer that PSU takes a shot into the endzone.  It's way more likely that you get either a pass interference or a TD versus a pick that goes the other way.

that with 11 seconds left PSU could run a play, make 1st down, which stops the clock and gives them a chance to spike the ball for the chance of another play.

PSU was content to allow the clock to run out, Hoke wanted some kind of chance with the ball, albeit PSU would have to make a mistake for that to occur, but it couldn't occur unless PSU was forced into running a play.

What the hell was that? Time out immediately, you get ball back. Time out with second or two left, you force them to snap it once more vs they might make a play on you. A horribly bad move. So bad, we came to conclusion announcer must've had it wrong, PSY must've had a personnel mess up or we remembered the play clock wrong or it was wrong on scoreboard & they had to take another snap so ran clock down? It's lunacy for UM to call TO there, so they couldn't have. Right? Or maybe they tried get to get the time out earlier & refs screwed them. Right?

I was rather unimpressed with the coaching. Too high a B.A.C. to recall every coaching decision I thought was dumb, but the QB sneaks were bad. Also, if you're going to just handoff, why have Gardner in the last series?

You absolutely have to have Gardner ready to play when you go into EL in 2 weeks. If he gets hurt further, what is already looking like a double-digit L turns into a colossal curb stomping.

Can you imagine Bellomy under center against the Spartans?

... i made the following joke.

its not the coaches fault... That other coaches are better. If they just start being less good, then we would win more. Its the other coaches fault.

FWIW, the PSU fans who sat near me didn't seem that enthused about Franklin.  They all seemed to regard him as a good recruiter but poor gameday strategist.  I haven't seen him coach that much, but if tonight's game is any indication, I can see their point.  Besides his strange game management, I thought his offensive gameplan was really weird.  Rutgers just killed us throwing downfield, so PSU decides to go lateral all game?

Happy we won, but let's not kid ourselves. Barring divine intervention that involves the entire MSU team getting chronic diarrhea, we are in for a horrific beat down in 2 weeks. MSU will be out for blood the minute we set foot on the field.

just made me mad.

Winning because the other team managed to suck worse than you did is not a satisfying feeling.  It was like the Sugar Bowl.  We won, but I don't even want to see the highlights.  Good for the players and the fans who paid money to see the game I guess, but damn...

After Gardner's injury, I really hope they have a special package to use if he goes down again. Putting in Bellomy to handoff/throw screens will be murder. Wildcat maybe? Let's not forget that not having a viable backup is a result of coaching decisions in recruiting.

Proud of the palyers.  They played their hearts out.  Keeping a guy like Hackenberg uncomfortable is a good accomplishment for this defense.  What else is there to say about Gardner?  He is a warrior.  However, he really should not have been out there after getting absolutely crushed and acting like his leg was amputated.

Brady Hoke should thank James Franklin for taking the title from him for "dumbest timeout call of the game" and also thank the ref for that offsides call from the successful onside kick.  He coached a bad game, but Franlin happened to coach a worst one.

At the end of the first half, Hoke could've called a timeout on 4th down to punt with eighteen seconds left. Instead, he lets the clock run down to three seconds... then sends the punt return team on the field like Penn State is going to punt with three seconds left. It was rather embarrassing.

Good win for Hoke & the players. Was nice to see. Start to feel sorry for ole boy Hoke. He has handled all this pretty well considering.

Smart call by PSU coach to get the safety at the end. We got a little lucky with the offside call on the kick.
