Jameis Winston to Sit Entire Game vs Clemson
Looks like FSU has either gotten this right or bowed to media pressure or both. Either way we won't see Mr. Winston vs Clemson on saturday.

Whether or not this matters, FSU has a different (interim) President now than they did for Winston's previous investigation. Plus, she didn't make the finalist list for permanent President. So, she has a free-er hand to impose punishment and may have a different view of appropriate punishment than her predecessor did.
Perhaps this explains why Winston is being punished more severely for this than for previous, more important transgressions.

This guy has a laundry list of incidents since he arrived at FSU. At risk of sounding like an old man, I am glad to see this. He needs to learn how to represent his school and college football in general. I hope he does learn from this and becomes a better guy. You wonder if athletes where held more accountable at the college level we'd see less of the crap coming out of the NFL and other major sports.

That's a good point. If he was directing his comments at a particular individual, I can definitely understand a harsher punishment.
September 20th, 2014 at 12:21 AM ^
I guarntee FSU doesn't give a shit if it was directed at a student. This suspension is about public pressure.
September 20th, 2014 at 12:26 AM ^
Agreed. I'm just trying to explain the punishment in a hypothetical world where people in charge aren't totally incompetent.
September 20th, 2014 at 9:22 AM ^
They're already under federal investigation over this kid. They cannot ignore any threatening behavior directed towards students coming from this guy.
September 20th, 2014 at 7:13 AM ^
So average male college students climb on tables in public and scream "Fuck her right in the pussy." I did not know that.

I know right? "Winston raising red flags across NFL execs". Except he has all the talent in the world so fuck'em we'll take'em!

Somebody will take a chance on him. With Manziel his style and durability issues also played a factor.
September 21st, 2014 at 8:17 AM ^
Or you don't draft him and he becomes the next best thing in the NFL. Either way you hope he gets taken before your pick.
September 20th, 2014 at 11:13 AM ^
Man there's a big difference between Manziel's love of partying and using a fake a ID and rape allegations, shoplifting, and this.
September 20th, 2014 at 1:23 PM ^
From a NFL-team perspective there certainly is a difference between tying your franchise to a QB that likes to party (Joe Namath, maybe?) and one that you're worried is going to end up in prison.
September 20th, 2014 at 12:31 AM ^
This guy is the poster child for college football? Exceptional talent? Without a doubt, but the Heisman Trust has to be asking themselves who have we chosen.

This is bullshit. Athletes have always been entiled and more than likely not people you want for rolemodels for your children. It's just we're more aware now.
September 20th, 2014 at 1:10 AM ^
"Thugdom." Really? Assuming you're from the UP, I'm guessing you don't call the white people who have bad judgement thugs. Take the racial undertones elsewhere, plz and thank u.
September 20th, 2014 at 6:54 AM ^
September 20th, 2014 at 2:10 PM ^
A bit late to the party, but I can guarantee you that the word "thug" is more commony used to describe non-Caucasian (specifically African American) athletes than it is for Cuacasian athletes. I'm pretty sure there was a study conducted on something similar to this.
September 20th, 2014 at 3:27 PM ^
According to Websters, "thug" is of Hindi origin, meaning thief, with the first known use in 1810.
Although, based on Websters definition of the word, "a violent criminal". He has only met part of the criteria and only been accused of violent crime, not convicted.
No matter, this is a very talented, intelligent kid who I hope makes the most of his situation when reinstated.
September 20th, 2014 at 10:16 AM ^
And, get off your judgemental high horse, yes, I would call a yooper or anyone else a thug with a the pattern of behavior this guy has displayed.

That press conference was a disaster.
September 20th, 2014 at 1:34 AM ^
Am being told increased penalty for FSU's Jameis Winston came after school discovered he'd not been entirely truthful with them.
— Rachel Nichols (@Rachel__Nichols) September 20, 2014
September 20th, 2014 at 1:49 AM ^
I call BS. They could have discovered (and likey did discover) what happened within 24 hours of the incident, especially considering the fact that the precise details were documented by several students via social media. FSU is trying to preserve their integrity here after yet another PR disaster, and it looks extremely poopy.
September 20th, 2014 at 1:54 AM ^
But of the two parties involved here, I'm more likely to believe that Jameis did something dumb.
Or maybe I'm just high on Rachel Nichols after she crushed Goodell at his presser.
PS I don't know what to make of this:
SOURCE:Winston's suspension due to FSU administration finding discrepency w/ his account of where he was standing when saying theobscenities

"They could have discovered (and likey did discover) what happened within 24 hours of the incident"
These are college administrators we're talking about. Those who can't teach. Those who can't teach...go into administration. It's basically govt work...brainless drones
September 20th, 2014 at 1:54 AM ^
Impossible. I am repeatedly assured in the thread above that the people running college football and FSU are completely incompetent. To increase punishment in the light of new information would be competent, therefor it is impossible in this case.
September 20th, 2014 at 2:04 AM ^
So you're going with "Hey, I know there was intense public pressure to increase the suspension, but I think it's much more likely that the people who have disregarded virutally every wrongdoing Jameis Winston has committed at FSU have suddenly decided to ban him for one of the most important games of the year because he lied about where he was standing while yelling the obscenities."
Okay bud.
September 20th, 2014 at 2:05 AM ^
I thought it was funny.
September 20th, 2014 at 2:15 AM ^
I took it at as a sarcastic mocking of people who think FSU is behaving inappropriately, but I dunno, I'm tipsy and tired. Don't listen to me.
September 20th, 2014 at 9:39 AM ^
It's entirely plausibe that FSU would suspend him for an entire game for lying about where he was. What if really he yelled it right into the women's restroom? Or at a table of women or at a specific woman? However, I don't deny FSU would still only be operating in a CYA mode.

There is just something wrong upstairs about this kid. I would not be surprised if he ends up in prison at some point either during or after his NFL career.
