Whether or not this matters, FSU has a different (interim) President now than they did for Winston's previous investigation.  Plus, she didn't make the finalist list for permanent President.  So, she has a free-er hand to impose punishment and may have a different view of appropriate punishment than her predecessor did.

Perhaps this explains why Winston is being punished more severely for this than for previous, more important transgressions.

This guy has a laundry list of incidents since he arrived at FSU.  At risk of sounding like an old man, I am glad to see this.  He needs to learn how to represent his school and college football in general.  I hope he does learn from this and becomes a better guy.  You wonder if athletes where held more accountable at the college level we'd see less of the crap coming out of the NFL and other major sports.

I agree if no new information came to light, the penalty seems excessive.... Even a half seemed like a lot-given that what he said is pretty much standard everyday language for your average college student. My guess is that as they investigated and spoke to witnesses, there were possibly some female students who felt it was directed specifically at them, and therefore could be construed as sexual harassment. That's the only thing-outside of a straight caving to pressure-that would warrant a full game.

I recently heard a thought that was interesting regarding this alteration. Some say that if he plays the second half and they lose but still only lose 1 game it would look worse to the committee than if FSU were to lose and he sits outs the whole game. Thus making the decision to sit him the whole game better for their chances to make it into the final 4 with one loss.

that was my first thought. When suspended the half I thought to myself that a loss with him having played a half would be worse than sitting him the entirety, losing and then he plays the rest of the year and they roll. The committee would chalk that one loss to the backup QB, assume it's a win with Winston and also give points for being the defending champs. Now, he's sitting the whole game haha. Wouldn't put it past them to use that silver lining to a bad situation.

What's the joke? A whole bunch of people cared enough about Manziel to avoid drafting him when they had the chance, and honestly they look pretty smart. Winston is dropping because he is a proven risk. Nobody wants to hang the future of the franchise (not to mention their own careers) on a guy who could easily get himself suspended for a chunk of time.

The guy is on a fast track to thugdom if he is not already there.

This guy is the poster child for college football? Exceptional talent? Without a doubt, but the Heisman Trust has to be asking themselves who have we chosen.

Heisman turned a corner when they picked Newton in 2010. RG3 is clean but then you had Manziel signing everything in sight (but totes not for pay) and then Winston and all that has entailed. The Heisman is for a flashy athlete and not the best sportsman in football.

I take your word that there was a study. I would have never associated the use of this word with anything but a general term applying to the general population.

According to Websters, "thug" is of Hindi origin, meaning thief, with the first known use in 1810.

Although, based on Websters definition of the word, "a violent criminal". He has only met part of the criteria and only been accused of violent crime, not convicted.

No matter, this is a very talented, intelligent kid who I hope makes the most of his situation when reinstated.

White, yellow, red, black, yooper, whatever, when you show judgement as poor as this guy and repeatedly break the law and intimidate people of any gender your not just a young college kid who made a mistake.

And, get off your judgemental high horse, yes, I would call a yooper or anyone else a thug with a the pattern of behavior this guy has displayed.

I call BS. They could have discovered (and likey did discover) what happened within 24 hours of the incident, especially considering the fact that the precise details were documented by several students via social media.  FSU is trying to preserve their integrity here after yet another PR disaster, and it looks extremely poopy.

But of the two parties involved here, I'm more likely to believe that Jameis did something dumb.

Or maybe I'm just high on Rachel Nichols after she crushed Goodell at his presser.

PS I don't know what to make of this:

"They could have discovered (and likey did discover) what happened within 24 hours of the incident"

These are college administrators we're talking about.  Those who can't teach.  Those who can't teach...go into administration.  It's basically govt work...brainless drones

So you're going with "Hey, I know there was intense public pressure to increase the suspension, but I think it's much more likely that the people who have disregarded virutally every wrongdoing Jameis Winston has committed at FSU have suddenly decided to ban him for one of the most important games of the year because he lied about where he was standing while yelling the obscenities."

Okay bud.

It's entirely plausibe that FSU would suspend him for an entire game for lying about where he was. What if really he yelled it right into the women's restroom? Or at a table of women or at a specific woman?  However, I don't deny FSU would still only be operating in a CYA mode.

There is just something wrong upstairs about this kid.  I would not be surprised if he ends up in prison at some point either during or after his NFL career.
