Friday Fun - Two FBS Teams have Played More Games than Michigan. Who Are They?
Reading all these threads about history and rivalries and our other "big home and home series soon to be announced" and chickens had me going through wikipedia looking at the stats of various major programs.
To that end, UM has the most wins and is tied for winning % with Fig Things. But 2 teams currently in FBS have actually played more games - I was pretty shocked by that.
Can you guess these 2 programs without looking? (honor system!)
EDIT - Note to self, when doing polls on history inform Wolverine Devotee he must not answer for 59 minutes.
HINTS:
- Michigan has played 1268 games and has a .733 winning %
- The all time leader in games played in FBS has played 1289 games and ... is in the Big 10.
- The team in second place has played 1271 games with a .552 winning percentage... and a major rival has played them within the past 24 months.
- All teams are in the Eastern Standard Time Zone.

Rutgers and Navy.
Rutgers played in the first football game ever which predated Michigan's program by 10 years and Navy began playing football the same year as Michigan. My original thought was Princeton but then you said FBS.
Here's a bonus question: who has the highest winning percentage in FBS? (It's not Michigan or notre dame)

You need to edit Wikipedia because it shows UM and ND

The Old Dominion Monarchs have the highest FBS winning percentage at .767
Sure, they've been playing football for six years, but they're in Conference USA.
Don't be surprised if they add more to that stat by beating NC State on Saturday, since NC State barely escaped pulling a Florida and losing to Georgia Southern winning by a single point last week.

So we can yell "wrong" everytime the NBC announcers say UM and ND are tied for first Saturday during the game.

Old Dominion doesn't qualify because they haven't been playing D-1/FBS football long enough. Per the NCAA FBS Record Book (p. 68), a team needs to have played D-1 football for 25 years to qualify for the record for best winning percentage. Old Dominion is on only its sixth year.

The poultry, USC and ohio at 7.
The fig thing chickens should only have 6. Bob Chappuis deserved the 1947 Heisman. Not only was he the best player on the best team but he was a war hero.

Have to say Rutgers for number one. I'm tempted to say Nebraska for number two, but I know their winning percentage is better. Virginia?

Rutgers and... somebody?

Is Pitt the second one?

September 5th, 2014 at 4:55 PM ^
Nope. Looked it up; not Pitt.

you all lose. You must phrase your answer in the form of a question.

I'd guess Rutgers is one.
I'll go out on a limb and guess Temple.

While we sort of on the subject of the most in something, I do believe that the most played rivalry game is actually a traditional Big Ten matchup actually. As far as I recall, it is the Minnesota-Wisconson rivalry, the prize for that being Paul Bunyan's Axe - something that Wisconsin has used routinely to cut Minnesota off at the knees for the last 25 years.

I knew Rutgers right away
