OT: What Concerts Will You Be Attending This Summer?

Submitted by Darker Blue on

So I have a busy summer planned attending concerts. I'm going to see Neutral Milk Hotel in Royal Oak on June 18th, and returning to the greater Detroit area on June 19 to see Andrew Jackson Jihad play. Following that up with The Hold Steady in Lansing on July 8th. Also Gordon Lightfoot is coming to Northern Michigan sometime in June, and I may check that out also. What shows do you plan on seeing this summer?

I'll make sure to bring a Michigan shirt. The main people I'm interested in seeing are Jack White, Phoenix, Cage the Elephant, Group love, Broken Bells, maybe a couple more that I'm blanking on. I'm interested to see Ed Helms' superjam and Taran Killam's comedy, but those are more off the beaten path. Being a noob idk what to expect really so I'm just really pumped for the trip/experience.

Probably just Lollapalooza later in ther summer.  I'd kill to be able to get to Bonnarroo though. Anyway, Lolla is depressing this year in a few ways.  The headliners except for Outkast suck i.e. they really do suck or have been here within the past few years already (this is my opinion but Lolla diehards would agree I think...I mean look at all the years preceding this year and compare headliners, it's no contest this is the weakest ever).  Arctic Monkeys I love but I wish they would do like they did in 2012 and be an opener for a headliner (lo and behold, I suppose they're too big for that now).  There are quite a few undercard acts that are very good so that will get my to buy a ticket off Ebay/Stubhub later.

Also, not music related, but Patton Oswalt is at the Chicago Theatre in late May.  I really would like to see a standup set of his, so I may splurge and Stubhub some tickets to that show.

Back in 2012 (pretty sure it was 2012 anyway), I worked sidestage at the Black Keys concert and the Arctic Monkeys were the openers. Didn't know a ton about either band going into it, but it ended up being a pretty awesome show. Arctic Monkeys seemed to be really into the Black Keys based on their excitement watching them play next to me after their set with a few beers.

Not trying to disappoint, but I read that at Coachella (at least the first weekend, don't know about the second) a lot of people were disappointed with Outkast's performance. They gave multiple reasons, including most of the people there only knowing them from newer radio songs like Hey Ya, The Way You Move or Mrs. Jackson, but also that they just flat out didn't sound good. I know I was really looking forward to finding a close location to see them at, but unless I read more positive reviews from different concerts/festivals I may not spend the money.

My wife and I are going to a couple this summer - in late July, we're going to head up to Pine Knob and see Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden, and for August, we're going to see about tickets to Eminem at Comerica as my wife is quite the fan. My wife also wants to go see Sarah MacLachlan at Meadowbrook in July, though she will be taking a friend to that one.

Strangely enough, very few people in the company outside of upper management refer to it as the DTE Energy Music Theater. Like everyone else, our memories are attached to the name "Pine Knob" as well. Even the corporate e-mail account through which we get ticket discounts slipped up once - that was hilarious to us anyway.

That is awesome, Sonar is one of my dream festivals.  I am curious are you living in Spain or flying out there?

As far as for me I am going to movement and I want to go to some other festivals I haven't been to yet.

Only one I have planned for sure is Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros in Chicago. Unfortunately they're playing with fucking Jack Johnson, who will probably get the longer set.

As a fairly new parent (8 month old daughter), I probably won't be making it to a concert this summer.  That is unless Raffi is swinging by Ann Arbor anytime soon...

Went to the Welcome to Rockville festival in Jacksonville this past weekend.  Absolutely incredible.  The lineup was ridiculous: Chevelle, Seether, Korn, Rob Zombie, Staind, Alter Bridge, Sick Puppies, Five Finger Death Punch, and a whole lot more.  Avenged Sevenfold headlined the first night and just absolutely rocked the living hell out of that place.  I think it's becoming an annual event down there, so if you're a big rock fan I highly recommend making the pilgrimage.

Saw 2 Chainz at Hill a few weeks back for poops and giggles.

Set to see The 1975 and CHVRCHES this summer. I'm not too familiar with The 1975 and I'm going since my girlfriend has an extra ticket, but I'm incredibly excited to see CHVRCHES. The Bones of What You Believe is one of my favorite albums out there.
