#2 Back in Play?
Jabrill talked to Woodson during the game. Didn't see this posted.

How I would be handling that conversation:
"Remem'er that time... you were with Michigan?"
"Yep, I do, Bando."
"...That was awesome."
I would +1 ya, but I haven't, and you don't need it.
I got tha Powa!
isn't the DB Michigan deserved, but the DB Michigan needed.
Why so serious?
Hmmm...no, I'm pretty sure Michigan deserved Peppers
Please explain why UM does not deserve Peppers?
I don't know the reference, but +1 to you for my ignorance.
Does he make sure you don't get cheated on shots? If so he's my new hero.
double post.
Things just got really interesting.
I wonder if it means that he will be wearing a legends jersey, or the staff said he could have number 2?
... Not sure if serious...
He didn't actually ask him if he could wear it and get approval, at least not in a meaningful way that actually gets him the number. Hoke gives out the numbers.
At first I thought this thread was going to be about Vincent Smith. I'll neg myself on my way out.
to misinterpret the OP title---I was thinking I might be clicking on a story about Michigan's 2nd-string RB and his upcoming theater role.
Shaking off tacklers while tackling some Shakespeare?
I'll kindly show myself out.
Hoke had previously said that when Vincent Smith graduated, they were going to give the #2 jersey the same status as the #1, but for DBs. I have to imagine #2 will carry a ledgends patch in the not to distant future either. That said, I was under the impression Peppers wanted to keep #5 for himself, and make it his own.
I seem to recall that Peppers said in an interview a few months ago that he wouldn't necessarily turn down the #2 jersey if offered, but I've also heard what you mentioned - that he wanted to keep #5 and make that his own number.
I will say, however, that I definitely would not mind another #2 All-American (we've had two - Woodson was one, of course), but we've never had one that wore #5, I think - he really could make a legacy by being the first. Either way, glad to have him coming to Ann Arbor.
How tall is Peppers? That picture makes him look like he's more along the lines of 5-10' or 5'11" rather than the 6'+ I was under the impression he was. Woodson is listed at 6'1", correct?
6'1 reported height, same as CW.
It looks more like he's standing slightly behind CW to me.
Not that it really matters, but I've read that Peppers is closer to 5-11 or 6 rather than the 6-1 he is listed at.
I mean, it kind of does matter. This is not to say he can't be an elite CB at 5'11", many certainly are, but those couple extra inches can mean a lot. Length is very important to an elite cover corner.
I'm sure you know this, but taller does not necessarily mean more arm length when comparing two people.
Like the poster said below, he is probably closer to 6-0 than 6-1.
I said it doesn't matter because listed height doesn't really have anything to do with what we already know about his athleticism and what we have seen on tape.
I'm just under 6' (5' 11.75") and I stood face to face with Peppers during the Under Armour game practices and we're the same height. He's definitely not 6' 1". Although he's 18 and still growing, so he may get there.
Singling out a player by giving him a legendary numer. It is a distractions for kids and not entirely consistent with Bo's "the Team" mantra. I would rather give kids the helmet decals we used to give for making plays on the field.
I disagree, representing the players who played before you is more than consistent with Bo's "the Team" mantra.
I also don't really see how it's any type of a distraction.
having ceremonies honoring them. I am not in favor of singling out a player by giving him a special number.
Only one DB can have #2. What does Blake think about it? Or Lewis? No matter how well they play, they will never wear #2. I think it affects team unity.
Give him #2 right off the bat.
The whole "you have to earn it" junk started with Lloyd and Braylon. Prior to that, they just gave out the #1 jersey. The play of guys like Carter, McMurtry, Alexander and Terrell just happened to make the number a big deal.
Now it's pretty safe to say we won't see #1 for a long time. #21 is the receivers legends number. #1 has been pretty much retired by Braylon.
Freddy Canteen might object to that.
It's sooo played out. Just give the number to someone and be done with it! Please.
Here's to hoping Peppers create his own legacy that rivals Chuck.
