i haven't watched it yet -- does he say "besta luck"?
edit: for once in his life, nope.
Looks like Michigan is switching over to the "stretch mark" uniforms. Look at Funchess' during his interview. I also noticed it on Watson in the Freshman focus video too..
Oh well. Maybe it is just the practice ones...
Not a fan of the look, because they really do look like stretch marks. But in reality, the marks are not as pronounced in real life as they seem in the pictures above.
My bigger issue is that this "technology" has been on other teams jerseys for the past year or two. I thought the selling point adidas had with us was that they were going to present Michigan as their showcase program, and that we would get the best stuff first. When in all actuality we have received nothing but a production line of items.
"Let's make one jersey in blue, orange, navy, & red, and call them Michigan, Tennessee, Notre Dame, & Nebraska!" -adidas
Yeah, this has confused me for a while. I never understood how we could be the "premier customer" or what ever it is that they call us and not roll out the new gear for us as it comes out. It's as if they don't have the production capacity to support updating the whole hand full of schools they supply at once.
I'm just hoping we make the switch to someone else so I can buy a shirt that fits at least reasonably well from our major apparel provider again.
You know what, it wouldn't even bother me if they just did it the right way. Stop giving us tear away basketball uniforms. Stop giving us the same damn "tourney uniforms" and "washout uniforms" you give everyone else. Get it right and stop fussing around with it.
Not sure if you ever noticed, but the away uniforms the past few years haven't even been the same for everyone wearing them!
This is from 2012 OSU. The piping on Denard's jersey makes a sharp turn towards the collar, and DG's goes softly into it. I know I am just being picky. But WTF.
They we wearing two different jerseys...
For 2 years (Hoke's first 2) we ALWAYS had 2 or even 3 different white jerseys on the field at once. It was a travesty.
We'd have both of these...and have the ones with the wavy stripe up the sides.
Some guys liked the old jerseys because they fit tighter and some guys liked the news ones. Hoke let guys wear what they wanted.
I remember the game @Northwestern. If you looked on defense, it was like every other guy had a different jersey on.
I agree with you Adidas makes some weird fitting shirts. They are so dam long and so tight up in the arms. They are European sizes or something.
You're right....all we got was alot of freaking money, but have not capitalized on small changes to jerseys that ultimately don't influence the actual games played. We got screwed
I didn't say we got screwed. But I am tired of them just putting Michigan into a cookie cutter uniform. And I put "technology" in quotation marks because that is how the companies present any change, when in reality it doesn't effect a damn thing.
Design us a damn uniform (and I am only talking away uniforms here), don't change it for 5 years, and don't let Mississippi State copy it.
As someone who gets up in arms quite a bit about the whole UNIFORMZ ordeal, I am not too bothered by a subtle pattern throughout the top (what you call "stretch marks"). I'd be much more upset if they messed with the color scheme. The "all maize" jerseys that the QBs wear (yes, I realize it's only for practice) look terrible.
Considering that the linemen are all wearing jerseys with white stripes on their shoulders, I'm not sure we can read a whole lot into the "stretch marks" on Devin's jersey.
It would fit the trend of us getting new uniforms every two years.
I actually might not hate this as much as I thought. It kinda looks cool. The jury is still out but it might not be as bad as I thought...but UCLA's and Nebraska's black ones look ridiculous
Embed doesn't seem to be working.
Can't say I'm a fan of all the tackles for loss in this video and others we've seen so far. I think we've seen one or maybe two nice runs by a running back in these teaser videos.
I agree, because we can surely assume that the plays in these videos are a dervied from a random sampling of all the plays in all the spring practices this year. As such, they allow us to draw conclusions about the strengths and weaknesses of the team. (I know you were not saying this, but we do need to keep in mind that these videos tell us basically nothing beyond physical characteristics of individual players.)
Maybe that means the defense is just badass. Maybe.....
They said this morning that while it would be natural for a defense to have the upper hand when the offense is learning a new system, they saw in fact a number of good runs by Green, Smith and Hayes, who either had holes to run through, or who made good cuts in the hole to avoid defenders who were in position.
In other words, don't worry about a tiny number of plays in a short video clip.
2nd play, Ross Douglas is running, Jack Miller LG pulls. LTT at LT handles Beyer however, the center (can't see his number) is pushed back by Bryan Mone and the RG (can't see #) is absolutely abused by Ojemudia. Douglas is gang tackled for loss by Ojemudia, Beyer, Gedeon, and Willie Henry. Don't know where WH came from, he wasn't in the interior of the DL. Maybe the sideline?
Next play. Jack Miller center ignores Maurice Hurst and goes to the second level blocking nobody. Kugler RG whiffs on Hurst who is coming hard and runs down Hayes from behind in the backfield.
Next, Dan Samuelson RG gets beat bad, OL collapses. Douglas is ganged tackled for loss. Interesting, LB Bobby Henderson was at H back.
Next, looked like 2 or 3 deep Oline, Hayes running, Ryan Glasgow makes the 1yd TFL.
with any regularity, the calls for Funk to be let go will be equaled or surpassed by the calls for Hoke to go too. Now that the offense has been "simplified," there are no excuses for putrid OL play.
If that play by play happens just like that, it won't be Funk's fault because it will mean all of our starting O linemen are injured. The above poster didn't list the name of one OL who will be seeing the field this fall, but mostly starters on the DL. If Willie Henry and MO and Beyer aren't abusing our 2nd and 3rd stringers, there's a problem.
There were a few other F and RS F that were on the line but I didn't note them because they didn't effect the play.
I agree, if Henry, Hurst, Ojemudia, and Beyer can't blow up the 2&3 deep, that's a problem. That they did doesn't really tell us anything positive or negative. That said, the one positive I did see, and it was a sample of one, was Mone pushing the center into the backfield.
Those plays also came at a time when Doug was talking about the defense and interviewing Wormley. It would make sense to show some plays being made by the defense. I assume that they don't just randomly pull plays from the film, but rather tailor the selected film to fit the relevant portion of the story.
depth at DL and at WR. I think a strong DL means the rest of the defense has some pressure taken off of it and a strong WR corps ensures defenses respect the pass and helps the offense be more balanced. Now all I want to hear is that the OL really IS making some strides forward and we'll be in bidness.
a DL that gets no push.... been very frustrating ever since MM left. I hope this years DL shows us something.
Edited: Embedded video was already posted.
Derrick Green running like a Boss. I think we can all officially agree now he was grossly out of shape last year.
Hopefully when the NFL scouts Funchess, they look past his torn Achilles...
this season where things look good and sound good, or maybe its the first time I'm thinking this. Green does look better, Funchess and Gardner look good. I know, the past has tricked us, but the reality is, if Hoke is going to stick around, you have to think that this season will be a breakout one, if it's "meant to be"
is footage already released in previous videos. So I would guess the pain of last season is receding, and, not unlike the sun and warmth of spring, your optimism for M football is creeping through the winter grey.
It's probably a trap
improvement and (brief) Kalis interview is immediately followed by footage of a TFL.
Haven't heard a peep about him this spring. He was tough as hell last year on special teams, made a few catches (although hardly ever targeted). Hoping for a big leap this year, as I'm sure everyone is. Not that lack of buzz means anything, but it's all we have right now.
Sidebar: I really hope we actually throw to a few different receivers this year. Dileo was wasted last year, and when he was targeted, it was in the wrong situations! Throw it to Funchess in the Ohio game for the 2-pointer, not Dileo. Don't ignore him all damn day then expect him to make the first down catch against Nebraska. Argh. And don't put Reynolds out on the field and telegraph to anyone with an IQ above 40 that it's a running play, because you never throw to the guy. And throw it to AJ Williams once in a while, even if he drops it. Was he really dropping everything in practice? Seriously he was never a receiving threat at TE, and that's untenable in a pro-style offense. So glad with a new OC, end Sidebar.
It must be the beautiful weather outside here in Tampa, but I'm feeling a little optimism creeping up.
WR: Funchess is a stud. He will have a great year. Canteen will really, really, help us. I feel much better about how we will replace Gallon's production.
OL: Repetition and simplification...repeat. I think we move the needle on performance. A solid step forward...but not a leap.
QB: Gardner and a legitimate backup with the capability to go three deep if needed. This is the best QB lineup we have had in years.
RB: A legit 1-2 punch....just need to develop a good change-of-pace (Hayes/Norfleet)
TE: Umm....legit concern here.
DL: Umm...legit concern here until proven otherwise, although there is talent here.
LB: I think JMFR will do well in the middle. Too talented not to. We will be okay here.
FS/SS: Really need some guys to step up here.
CB/NB: Talent and depth
To have a real successful season we need two position groups to over perform and the others to hold serve. Who will it be? OL and DL would be nice.
I don't think the DL is a "legit" concern. They were decent last year despite being pretty young, and they return all but two contributors (and essentially add Pipkins since he missed much of the season). I think Mone can contribute right off the bat, albeit in small spurts, and both Poggi and Hurst should be in the mix after coming off redshirts.
We have enough talent there that whoever is seeing the field should be looking good.
Didn't see the video.
Is Darboh practicing or on pace to be starting this fall?
Is it just me or does Jake Ryan always have a bit of the Crazy Eyes going on? I don't think he ever blinks.
I'll take a middle linebacker with crazy eyes.
Seems as if both the offensive line is busting open holes and the defensive line is blowing up protections...wait.
an improvement, but you realize all those tackle for loss clips were when they were speaking about the defense and DL, right? Of course they are going to show those types of clips. The first half of the video was offense, and the defense was 2nd.
Exactly. When they talk about the offense, they show long bombs to Funchess and Green scoring a nice TD, and when they talk up the D, they show all the big stops. This happens in all of these videos.
The problem with this is that it results in poor focus for the PANIC amoung the fans. I prefer a focused strategy for panic as opposed the light helpings of panic a less focused highlight reel results in. I think we accomplish more as a fan base that way.
I don't know if I agree with that. When you know what you need to PANIC about, it sometimes makes the panic easier to handle, and often more calm. By the end of the year, the panic had lessened because we all knew it was all Borges's fault. A confused panic, on the other hand, has some real power to it. Does our offense suck or does our defense sucks? Which position group do we blame the suck on? I JUST DON'T KNOW!
