Michigan elevates JB Brown to Special Teams Coordinator
Has been an analyst with the team since 2021. Except for the special teams debacles against Bama, our unit has consistently been one of the best in the country under Jay Harbaugh so let's hope it stays that way!
Go Blue!

REALLY want this to happen

Warde is still AD pretty sure that’s who whacked partridge soooooo
February 2nd, 2024 at 5:29 PM ^
Partridge to Chargers makes perfect sense
February 2nd, 2024 at 5:41 PM ^
I was thinking the same thing typing my response.

How do you figure Doug Mallory is going to be the LB coach? AFAICS he (pushing 60) and his brother Mike (north of 60) are effectively in retirement jobs at Michigan (low-key analyst positions) to top off their long football CVs. Not to mention Doug was a DB and much of his coaching was at that position.
February 2nd, 2024 at 5:43 PM ^
Was heavily involved in coordinating the back end of last years defense don’t be surprised when it happens continuity and all that
February 2nd, 2024 at 4:51 PM ^
Probably doesn’t “take” from anyone. But Minter was just a DC, so more likely the next DC also carries a position.
February 2nd, 2024 at 4:51 PM ^
Minter was coaching safeties too. It sure sounded like Jay's primary responsibility was special teams. If we promote a DC from within, we should be adding LB and S coaches.

Looks like all of the adults have left and went to the NFL…
February 2nd, 2024 at 4:47 PM ^
What a weird thing to say
February 2nd, 2024 at 4:55 PM ^
I’m sure you are super stoked about these hires. I’m sorry if I’m not. Especially after just winning a national title. Feels like we are scraping the bottom of the barrel. I’m sure the guys are awesome. However, You do need some credibility when out on the recruiting trail. The thing that a lot of these guys that succeeded had going for them, was a head coach with a ton of experience. Also, Jim was exceptional in teaching and coaching. He had a vast array of experience to pull from. Not seeing a guy on this staff That could be considered a sage to help calm the ship in rough waters. I know, I know you are going to say that Sherrone took the team during the tough and brutal schedule the last three games. But Jim was always there. Jay was there. Jesse was there. Why not wait until one more week and interview Brian Greise for the OC position? Look what he’s done with Purdy.
February 2nd, 2024 at 4:58 PM ^
Jesse didn’t have much experience when he got the job nor did MacDonald.
What makes you think Griese wants to coach in college?
February 2nd, 2024 at 5:03 PM ^
On the contrary, Jesse worked for the Ravens and then was the DC at Vandy. He had experience. But once again to my point, there were those around him that could help settle things. I’m all for naming Clinkscale, the DC. I think Griese has proven valuable. Let me ask you this question Salvatore: is being elevated from QB coach in college to OC better or worse than an NFL QB coach being elevated to OC in college? Plus he has ties to the program.
February 2nd, 2024 at 5:00 PM ^
Jay and Jesse are the "adults"?
Mmkay
February 2nd, 2024 at 5:06 PM ^
Sorry if you disagree. But I do Believe that they played a big part in the success of this team. I think Jay has been here the whole nine years that Jim was here. So yeah, I guess he’d be considered an adult. Jesse got a lot of interest from NFL teams.
February 2nd, 2024 at 4:48 PM ^
NFL is just much more desirable at this point, I mean look at Hafley leaving a HC position at Boston College to be the Packers DC. College Football is an absolute mess and unless you're devoted to recruiting and fundraising, NFL is probably more suitable for most coaches since it's actually just coaching.
February 2nd, 2024 at 5:07 PM ^
I do agree with you on that point. It seems that this might be the trend going forward until some things are fixed. I can’t imagine big-time coaches want to continue in the current atmosphere of college football.
February 2nd, 2024 at 4:48 PM ^
Are you an adult?
February 2nd, 2024 at 4:59 PM ^
You got nothing to add but that? lol…
February 3rd, 2024 at 10:36 AM ^
Just hoping you never leave...Mr adult.
But in all seriousness, Sherrone 1000% needs his old wise man / jedi master / war time consigliere...similar to how Harbaugh had Biff Poggi, Moore needs a couple old head, salty former head coaches as 'analysts' or whatever title. Just not sure if he has the coaching connections or pull to get 1 or 2. We shall see
February 2nd, 2024 at 4:48 PM ^
Makes sense. Should hopefully continue that positive trend. Wonder how he is as a recruiter?
February 2nd, 2024 at 5:14 PM ^
He's been on the recruiting trail for the last several weeks and a bunch of new players who got offers have called tagged him on Twitter. So that's a good early sign.
February 2nd, 2024 at 4:50 PM ^
what about JB Smoove?
February 2nd, 2024 at 4:56 PM ^
I like having all these guys on the bench that can be called up. Hopefully they live up to the standards set by their predecessors. And that Sherrone can keep up the hiring of analysts so that there is (almost) always a next man up.
Sure, they're going to have to hire outside some. There are still multiple spots to be filled.
February 2nd, 2024 at 4:58 PM ^
I do too. Maybe there needs to be more focus on refilling the bench.
February 2nd, 2024 at 4:58 PM ^
If he can do the job and recruit, then hire the man.
February 2nd, 2024 at 5:10 PM ^
When I saw name (before opening the post) I thought we hired that Last Chance U coach. That would've been great offseason board material.
February 2nd, 2024 at 5:29 PM ^
J.B. Brown just offered the first RB of the 26' cycle. Hart was not mentioned in the player's tweet btw.
February 2nd, 2024 at 9:28 PM ^
Can I just say? . . . Our unis are sweeet.
February 2nd, 2024 at 5:30 PM ^
Man, this place is mopey as fuck.
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:08 PM ^
It's like the people they're promoting weren't just on a national championship team, and weren't direct lieutenants of the coordinators responsible for that championship.
February 2nd, 2024 at 6:49 PM ^
Keep this roster and as many people that developed them and the game plan as possible. When it comes time to add from outside bring in great recruiters with a lot of experience. Sounds like we will be just fine. I secretly feel like our offense is actually going to shock a lot of people.
February 2nd, 2024 at 8:32 PM ^
The OL could be nasty again despite replacing all 5 starters. I also think Orji will be better passing threat than his game film to date would indicate.
February 2nd, 2024 at 9:31 PM ^
So . . . we must be saving a shit ton of money on coaching salaries.
No bidding wars are going on here for top talent from the outside. The coaches being promoted from the inside are mostly young and not highly experienced / accomplished. They are not in a position to be making big salary demands, and are likely glad to just be given a chance to move up.
Remember, Michigan was prepared to make Jim Harbaugh the highest paid coach in college football. And Harbaugh would have also retained a staff of very high-priced assistants.
Now we are looking at a young coaching staff that is going to be paid less than a quarter of that, if that much.
What are we going to do with that massive amount of money saved, if anything? Is Warde going to just sit on it and count it every night?
February 2nd, 2024 at 11:07 PM ^
No, but I can guarantee that one of his talking points to his boss(es) is going to be the profit the AD is turning this fiscal year.
February 3rd, 2024 at 12:30 PM ^
Let's be honest, Warde would be quite content to go a gentleman's 9-3 every year and just sit and count his money.
February 3rd, 2024 at 1:09 PM ^
I think it’s less about saving money and more that in the transfer portal era, continuity matters a ton in terms of keeping the roster together. Is it worth replacing Kirk Campbell if it costs you Davis or Orji for instance?
As for a special teams coach who should we be hiring? Is it really an issue that we hired Jay Harbaugh’s right hand man as the special teams coordinator?
February 3rd, 2024 at 2:17 AM ^
Punt returns were scary bad this past season. I hope he can improve on those. Plus, Michigan did not have many block punts last season. But HEY WE ARE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!
February 3rd, 2024 at 7:11 AM ^
While we have had a LOT of "promotions from within", I choose to remember that this is the team that won the Championship without having 5-stars all over the field. This staff is good at judging player talent...hopefully they are as good at judging coaching talent....
