How do you figure Doug Mallory is going to be the LB coach? AFAICS he (pushing 60) and his brother Mike (north of 60) are effectively in retirement jobs at Michigan (low-key analyst positions) to top off their long football CVs. Not to mention Doug was a DB and much of his coaching was at that position.

I’m sure you are super stoked about these hires. I’m sorry if I’m not. Especially after just winning a national title. Feels like we are scraping the bottom of the barrel. I’m sure the guys are awesome. However, You do need some credibility when out on the recruiting trail. The thing that a lot of these guys that succeeded had going for them, was a head coach with a ton of experience. Also, Jim was exceptional in teaching and coaching. He had a vast array of experience to pull from. Not seeing a guy on this staff That could be considered a sage to help calm the ship in rough waters. I know, I know you are going to say that Sherrone took the team during the tough and brutal schedule the last three games. But Jim was always there. Jay was there. Jesse was there. Why not wait until one more week and interview Brian Greise for the OC position? Look what he’s done with Purdy.

On the contrary, Jesse worked for the Ravens and then was the DC at Vandy. He had experience. But once again to my point, there were those around him that could help settle things. I’m all for naming Clinkscale, the DC. I think Griese has proven valuable. Let me ask you this question Salvatore: is being elevated from QB coach in college to OC better or worse than an NFL QB coach being elevated to OC in college? Plus he has ties to the program.

NFL is just much more desirable at this point, I mean look at Hafley leaving a HC position at Boston College to be the Packers DC. College Football is an absolute mess and unless you're devoted to recruiting and fundraising, NFL is probably more suitable for most coaches since it's actually just coaching.

Just hoping you never leave...Mr adult.

But in all seriousness, Sherrone 1000% needs his old wise man / jedi master / war time consigliere...similar to how Harbaugh had Biff Poggi, Moore needs a couple old head, salty former head coaches as 'analysts' or whatever title. Just not sure if he has the coaching connections or pull to get 1 or 2. We shall see

I like having all these guys on the bench that can be called up.  Hopefully they live up to the standards set by their predecessors.  And that Sherrone can keep up the hiring of analysts so that there is (almost) always a next man up.

Sure, they're going to have to hire outside some.  There are still multiple spots to be filled.

Keep this roster and as many people that developed them and the game plan as possible. When it comes time to add from outside bring in great recruiters with a lot of experience. Sounds like we will be just fine. I secretly feel like our offense is actually going to shock a lot of people.

So . . . we must be saving a shit ton of money on coaching salaries.

No bidding wars are going on here for top talent from the outside.  The coaches being promoted from the inside are mostly young and not highly experienced / accomplished.  They are not in a position to be making big salary demands, and are likely glad to just be given a chance to move up.

Remember, Michigan was prepared to make Jim Harbaugh the highest paid coach in college football.  And Harbaugh would have also retained a staff of very high-priced assistants.

Now we are looking at a young coaching staff that is going to be paid less than a quarter of that, if that much.

What are we going to do with that massive amount of money saved, if anything?  Is Warde going to just sit on it and count it every night?

I think it’s less about saving money and more that in the transfer portal era, continuity matters a ton in terms of keeping the roster together.  Is it worth replacing Kirk Campbell if it costs you Davis or Orji for instance?

As for a special teams coach who should we be hiring?  Is it really an issue that we hired Jay Harbaugh’s right hand man as the special teams coordinator?

Punt returns were scary bad this past season. I hope he can improve on those. Plus, Michigan did not have many block punts last season. But HEY WE ARE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!

While we have had a LOT of "promotions from within", I choose to remember that this is the team that won the Championship without having 5-stars all over the field. This staff is good at judging player talent...hopefully they are as good at judging coaching talent....
