The only marquis I enjoy is Marques Slocum and his “fuck lion”. Now it’s time to take a bird bath :)

Googled and it looks like he had a cup of coffee with Washington football team, played for the Trenton Freedom in an indoor league and may be an Uber driver in Philly

I'd love to see Louisville embarass the fighting Lincoln Riley's. is the over/under is 59 points. I'm hoping to see 70! There's no D in USC...
December 27th, 2023 at 10:22 AM ^
I was really hoping to see Caleb Williams play for the Trojans one more time.
And, I do wish NIL deals were more visible - since, I wonder whether a cosmetics company has him endorse some of their products.
December 27th, 2023 at 10:34 AM ^
Who's this Caleb Wilson guy you speak of ? does he play defense ?
December 27th, 2023 at 10:55 AM ^
TY.. I stand corrected Caleb Williams… (and, corrected in my original comment)
December 27th, 2023 at 11:21 AM ^
I wonder if we should root for USC because they are joining the B1G, or hope for their embarrassment because Lincoln Riley is a 3rd base coach at OK who deserves to come back to earth (and USC is our Rose Bowl enemy.)
I used to root for Michigan>MSU>Purdue/Northwester>The B1G>The MAC> The PAC10>Military academies>rando schools I've been to>the rest of CFB other than the SEC and Florida schools> ND>SEC and Florida schools.
Now I root against everybody except for Michigan and Purdue/NW (family members went there).
EDIT: I also have the Florida schools higher in my ranking now that they've been bad for a minute.
December 27th, 2023 at 11:56 AM ^
Northwestern and the Rowing Fleck's have the B1G 2-0 in bowl games. I'll cheer for every big ten team, well almost every big ten team.... GO Tigers (of Missouri)
December 27th, 2023 at 12:31 PM ^
I used to root for the Big10, but not after this season. So Go Tigers (of Missouri) and Geaux Tigers (I may have just vomited in my mouth a bit).
December 27th, 2023 at 12:45 PM ^
I have fond memories of a weekend partying with a young lass who was attending LSU.... many, many, many years ago but damn was that a great time!

Always pull for a block M over a block O
December 27th, 2023 at 4:34 PM ^
Naw, the B1G can kick rocks. Go Canes, Tigers x2, Rebels, Vols, and War Eagle. Feels gross rooting for SEC teams but the B1G is filled with a bunch of whiny losers.
December 27th, 2023 at 11:57 AM ^
Fuck the Big Ten, USC can jump right in with the rest of them. They are not our friends, they would gladly watch Michigan burn to the ground.
Unrelated but related, Columbus Dispatch did an article on Burke and his belief that he intercepted the TD pass to Wilson. It’s either cheating, the refs, the weather, whatever other excuse they dream up. The longer they deny reality, the better. Crybaby U
December 27th, 2023 at 12:42 PM ^
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. I vastly prefer OSU to make up excuses rather than do some serious introspection on how to change and improve their program. Stay arrogant and delusional, my friends.
December 27th, 2023 at 9:23 AM ^
I am a total advocate for dropping the sponsor name from the game title. Military Bowl, Holiday Bowl and Texas Bowl, although that doesn’t help the Mayo Bowl so much.

So next year and beyond when the playoffs move to 12 teams these useless and stupid bowls will become even more useless and stupid. Players with even a marginal shot at the NFL will sit out en-masse so the games will feature the reserve players from crappy teams playing the reserve players from another crappy team.
I get that nobody gives two shits if anyone actually shows up - these are played for the TV audience only - but how in the hell will this be sustainable?
December 27th, 2023 at 9:56 AM ^
I don't get people saying that any bowls are "useless" or "stupid". I am old enough to remember when there were only a handful of bowls and only the most successful teams were chosen to go, but... that didn't exactly make the games any more useful or relevant. Winning the Big Ten and beating osu always meant far more than winning the Rose Bowl (which we usually didn't anyway).
Bowl games give us as fans (and the teams) more meaningful non-conference matchups than most of the regular season does. It only became "meaningless" in the public lexicon in the late 2000s / early 2010s when players started opting opt (on advice of their agents/handlers/etc.) - becoming worse when the ncaa created early signing day in mid-December thus creating even earlier coaching changes. Throughout almost the entire BCS era the bowls were still significant and often provided some of the most entertaining games of the season (and still do, at times).
December 27th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
The way to look at bowl games now is as Week 0 of the following season. Let the top players sit out and play the young guys who are expected to be major contributors next season. Invaluable experience to get ready for spring practice.
December 27th, 2023 at 4:45 PM ^
Yeah except transfers and incoming freshman aren’t on the team. Not even close to week 0. Much closer to a spring game.
December 27th, 2023 at 6:26 PM ^
Why should it be? Nothing has fundamentally changed - only people providing excuses to leave a team early.
December 27th, 2023 at 10:09 AM ^
I don't really disagree, but we've been calling it out as not sustainable since we got to some crazy number of bowls (37?), and yet here were still are. So I'm not sure the 12 team playoff will have any immediate impact. There will still be meaningless bowls.
December 27th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
I pretty much lost interest in bowls when 6 wins made a team eligible.
December 27th, 2023 at 10:10 AM ^
Regarding your sustainability question, spring games are telecast and at some schools, they outdraw bowl games. People love watching football.
December 27th, 2023 at 11:44 AM ^
The non-CFP and non-NY6 bowl games have become de-facto inter-team spring games.
So many players opt out that you are watching these games to see how teams are going to look next fall.
December 27th, 2023 at 1:40 PM ^
Interesting thought there. How many seconds could actually take the ones spot after a good game? Double edge sword for those who may be exposed to lose their standings. Seen this in a few games where a second exceeded expectations. Then he gets starter status and the nexr year he goes portal. This shit will never end. Contract time, Major Junior Hockey. Hey kid you want out, the team will get compensation via trade. Legal contract and the NCAA can't do shit about it.
December 27th, 2023 at 11:17 AM ^
Will the playoff games be named and commercialized similar to the bowls? Or maybe give them the names of existing bowls? I can’t see CFB leaving money on the table.
December 27th, 2023 at 12:22 PM ^
If I'm not mistaken - the media agreement for the first round of the '24 (12 team) CFP hasn't even been completed yet. This is the on-campus round of 5 v 12, 6 v 11, 7 v 10, and 8 v 9.
Sponsorships will be interesting - and, it would appear a specific relationship will be a bit challenging since the matchups and locations won't be known until two week (I think) before the first round.
December 27th, 2023 at 11:22 AM ^
My pool this year went to shit w opt outs, tranfers, imjuries. Ideas floating all over the place. Start CFP on game 5. X over conf. games. Remove smaller conf and go to super 2 or 3. Start the polls after week 6. No way in hell can teams (11vs12) gets in over a team more dominant. I'm sure Vegas and the TV guys will figure it out for their pocket books and not the best for fans.
December 27th, 2023 at 11:41 AM ^
Bowl games in December are like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade . . . something nice to have on the TV in the background during the holiday time.
Most people don't stare at the TV for 3 hours when these things are on, but it's nice to have them on in the background and peek in at them here and there when something looks interesting. It's part of the holiday tradition.
December 27th, 2023 at 11:42 AM ^
In defense of those who unabashedly despise these idiotic games, there are at least twice as many bowl games as there ought to be. The espn bowl extravaganza expansion from the early 2000's devalued bowls more than the 12 team playoff ever could.
December 27th, 2023 at 9:36 AM ^
The holiday bowl has delivered more fun and exciting games than any other bowl I can remember. Went to a few of them at the murph.
December 27th, 2023 at 9:48 AM ^
Yeah, I used to go every year when I lived in SD, and they were typically very fun games. One of the best mid tier bowl games. Texas v. Oregon (2000) and Texas v. Washington (2001) were great games.
December 27th, 2023 at 10:07 AM ^
Holiday Bowl and Alamo Bowl always seem to have fun matchups.
December 27th, 2023 at 10:10 AM ^
i went to some in the 80's and 90's - friends lived within walking distance of the murph and it was good football and a nice facility, too. iowa had a couple of barn-burners there; BYU v. PSU was a great game, and like you said, the '01 game of texas v. UW was a good one, too.

FUN FACT:
The occasional home (in part due to flight from his numerous, errr, scandals) of the infamous Marquis, Chateau de Lacoste, was bought and at least halfway restored by fashion icon Pierre Cardin.

If you bet on them, they become much more entertaining. Promise.
December 27th, 2023 at 9:43 AM ^
I would imagine that will soon (if not already) be the only reason they'll still have these bowl games.
December 27th, 2023 at 9:58 AM ^
This is true of most all cfb games. Outside of games that affect one's own team (directly or indirectly), most people don't watch or follow the rest.

I had UNLV +13.5 last night. It was quite intriguing.

Rose Bowl result notwithstanding, I will consider this a successful college football season if Mack Brown is covered in mayonnaise tonight.
December 27th, 2023 at 10:30 AM ^
Even though it's been at least a decade, I still see Oklahoma State against TAMU and my instinct is that it is a conference game.
December 27th, 2023 at 11:05 AM ^
Duke's Mayo, DIRECTV...TaxAct...GoBowling.com...seriously.
The branding and commercialisation of damn near everything is disgusting.
