Miami…
A team in an unstable conference with an uncertain future…
5-7, 7-5, 8-3, 6-7, 7-6 the last 5 years (33-28)…
Playing consistently to announced attendances of ~85% capacity…
Yes… that Miami
All seriousness though, Michigan is hardly weak at that position, and I do have to ask… how many edge rushers has Michigan put in the NFL the last 5 years? How about Miami?
August 13th, 2023 at 8:21 AM ^
While I don’t discount the aspect of $$—whether via NIL or old-fashioned paper sacks—influencing this decision, I wonder if it’s influenced by where he’s living. If his immediate family is now down in Deerfield Beach, it’s a lot easier to see their son play in person in Miami than it would be to watch him play in A2. If he’s just living with some uncle and his folks are still up in Ohio, then parental proximity probably isn’t a factor.
August 13th, 2023 at 2:31 PM ^
I thought they moved to Florida from Ohio and now are moving back? That was my understanding but I could be wrong. But from what I read it is all about the money. Those cheating bastards down in Miami with there one big booster who has scammed millions of dollars from people from his shitty business. He had a 900 million difference between projections of profit and actual profit. Made like 22 million but told Investors and others he was going to make close to 1 billion dollars.
They are dirty and that is the only reason they have pulled in many higher ranked recruits. Last year they paid good money and stole a recruit from us and other schools.

The season is about to begin and a lot can happen. If Michigan continues to play at a high level, then expect to flip a few players to MI.
August 12th, 2023 at 1:37 PM ^
If the past two seasons of high level performance don't matter for a guy in this class, I'm not so confident a third year of high level performance is going to swing much. There are many reason$ beyond team quality that are attractive to recruits.
August 12th, 2023 at 1:42 PM ^
They’re pretty much done for this class. I doubt much will come of big key flippers towards the end. It’s maintaining and keeping the current players. That is even becoming a struggle with losing out on Rudolph and some smoke with the minor rumors of the Smith twins as well.
August 12th, 2023 at 3:00 PM ^
some smoke with the minor rumors of the Smith twins as well.
What rumors? You referring to the Kentucky radio guy? Because if so… el oh el
August 12th, 2023 at 3:13 PM ^
I mean they visited Kentucky multiple times since committing to Michigan so I don't think it's exactly unfounded speculation
August 12th, 2023 at 9:07 PM ^
I’ve only seen one visit and it’s not uncommon for players to visit their local colleges (they’re now 90 miles from Lexington). The whole “rumor” is based around them playing their final year of high school in Kentucky and the fact that Kentucky wants them. Nothing in regards to reciprocated interest.
August 13th, 2023 at 10:14 AM ^
No, I’m referencing to ON3 and co. There is believed interest in Smith twins flipping to UK. It’s minor but there is validity.

Committed to us. Raw, high-upside as a pure pass rusher.
August 12th, 2023 at 1:12 PM ^
So long, partner.
August 12th, 2023 at 1:16 PM ^
What's the deal, Miami just checks to see which edges are committed to Michigan, loads up a fat bag and gets a flip?
We've seen this movie before.
August 12th, 2023 at 2:19 PM ^
I don't think there's any doubt that Miami - and Ruiz - are kings of the NIL right now. They're followed by FSU and TAMU
August 12th, 2023 at 5:15 PM ^
Dolphins legend and NFL HoF’er Jason Taylor is on Miami’s staff. He’s responsible for a lot of their recent recruiting wins especially with DL.
August 12th, 2023 at 2:59 PM ^
It's not like you'll see this in AA.
August 13th, 2023 at 6:06 PM ^
Seems like it. Miami struck out on all their DEs besides Lightfoot and moved onto their next round of recruits to throw bags at
August 12th, 2023 at 1:32 PM ^
I see, and where will the remainder of Mr. Rudolph be if his goolies will be in Miami?
August 12th, 2023 at 1:34 PM ^
Either the money must be good or Miami must be that fun because I don't get the number of guys signing up to go 7-5.
August 12th, 2023 at 3:05 PM ^
It's because the money is good AND Miami is fun ... especially with money
August 12th, 2023 at 9:16 PM ^
I'd think playing in the NFL would mean more money and more fun but what do I know. It's not like Miami has been a major factor in the draft in the last couple decades.
August 12th, 2023 at 1:36 PM ^
Hopefully Michigan can go back and push for Robinson. I guess Miami has other NIL boosters that are pitching in as well.
August 12th, 2023 at 1:39 PM ^
In addition, the stadium experience at YES THAT Miami is atrocious. They play in front of empty crowds each game.
August 12th, 2023 at 1:54 PM ^
I think this is a reality Michigan is going to have to accept for a while. At least under Harbaugh, Michigan isn’t going to be paying recruits upfront to come play for them. Other schools will, and we can’t realistically expect all these kids to “bet on themselves” and hope they’ll play well enough to get money down the road vs. going to a school that will pay them NOW, and pay them later if they perform on the field. I know the 17-18 year old version of myself would be hard pressed to turn that money down.
That said, If you want to flip away from a national title contender and go play for a team that tops out at 8-4 or 9-3 on a yearly basis, playing in a half empty stadium with an apathetic fanbase, that’s your business.
August 12th, 2023 at 2:16 PM ^
Why do people keep repeating this. Nobody “pays up front”. They promise you deals you get on day one when you show up. Which is exactly what Michigan did for will Johnson
August 12th, 2023 at 2:55 PM ^
Lol. If you think these teams that are notorious for paying players prior aren’t showing up with wads of cash to flip recruits, you might be out of tune with recruiting.
August 14th, 2023 at 6:00 AM ^
I was in Miami a few years back when Sparty was in town and was offered free tickets. They were free because the client who had them had absolutely no interest in going to a game that was the equivalent of opening the oven door on thanksgiving and jumping in. Fwiw I wasn’t either. If it was guaranteed State was gonna lose I may have went but also had no interest in being carted out on a gator from dehydration. There’s a reason Floridians come north in the summer although Miami is an awesome place to call home November through April.
August 12th, 2023 at 2:05 PM ^
Who?
August 12th, 2023 at 2:15 PM ^
I said it before but since the Chiles thing recruiting has been weird in a negative way. Not sure what that means just an observation. Wondering where this class ends up.
August 12th, 2023 at 4:51 PM ^
What’s the Chiles thing?
August 13th, 2023 at 6:09 PM ^
Chiles was essentially a Michigan lock for months and we were apparently setting up for him to commit to us on ESPN. Dude visits Florida and basically immediately commits after apparently RJ Moten shit talked Michigan resulting in Michigan staff and commits apparently being pissed. Likely not a result of that, but our recruiting momentum has fallen off a cliff since around that time
August 12th, 2023 at 2:17 PM ^
We hardly knew ye.
With the transfer portal I wouldn't be shocked if a couple of guys who go for greener pastures wind up circling back once the reality of yet another 6-6 season wears them down.
August 12th, 2023 at 2:30 PM ^
It'll be a blow, but I like Michigan's recipe right now. Top 10 class + Top 5 transfer class.
If we can get that to Top 5 + Top 3, we're cooking.
I'm sold on always having spots for transfers because of the culture and opportunities.
Olu Oluwatimi was one of my favorite Wolverines of all-time and I can make a very good argument for him being the best C in school history.
Drake Nugent has gotten rave reviews thus far. As have Ernest Hausmann and Josaiah Stewart.
I love getting these instant impact guys. Known commodities. AJ Barner is apparently having a great fall camp as well.
August 12th, 2023 at 5:42 PM ^
FYI - Per 247 Michigan's 2023 Transfer Class was ranked 17th not 'top 5.' Michigan's Recruiting rank is currently 6th but will likely drop because several teams ranked below Michigan only have 17 or so recruits while Michigan has 28...The enormous on field success of the last 2 seasons hasn't generated the improvement in recruiting one might expect.NIL or lack thereof (for new recruits) is the obvious reason.
August 12th, 2023 at 10:42 PM ^
How does the current class compare to the classes that made up the cote of the team for the past two years? Better? Or just bigger?
Seems to me that the success of the past two years proves you can build a top 5 team (but not get all the way to the top) with a sprinkling of 5 stars/near 5-stars, really good development, and a bit of luck with diamonds in the rough. The current class may have 2 top tier guys - at QB and RB - so we may not be all that far away from matching the current level of talent (as HS recruits) that we've put on the field for the last two years. Not the level we aspire to, but not too far off either.
August 12th, 2023 at 11:30 PM ^
You are mistaken. The entire recruiting class was ranked #17, when the transfer class was added in. That's not what the transfer ranking was. Michigan had either the #2 or #3 ranked transfer class. They were #1 for a long time, but eventually got passed up.
August 13th, 2023 at 1:19 AM ^
Per 247 Michigan's 2023 Transfer only rank was 17th..2023 Recruit only 20th.2023 Combined 17.
August 13th, 2023 at 11:08 AM ^
Fair point, but we can't recruit transfers for the current class yet.
August 12th, 2023 at 2:50 PM ^
If this year pays off for me at 8-1 then the recruits will fall in line. I am too focused on 2023 to worry about 2024/5/6/7
August 12th, 2023 at 3:52 PM ^
Yesterday there was a Sports Illustrated fluff piece about Michigan NIL. Woops
August 12th, 2023 at 6:35 PM ^
Probably from Brandon Brown who has zero AD connections.
August 12th, 2023 at 4:00 PM ^
Well, better to lose him to Miami than OSU or Alabama type of school. Maybe not Rudolph himself, but it seems a number of raw but high upside recruits going to Miami-type schools (high ratio of NIL $ to program success) might get their NIL $, be dissatisfied with their development (or the team record) and then want to transfer to a Michigan-like school to improve their NFL chances and enjoy their last couple seasons of CFB.
Well, at least i'll tell myself this!
August 12th, 2023 at 4:18 PM ^
Cough up the $$, reality of what it is these days. Some people up in A2 might want to look into that NIL situation.
August 12th, 2023 at 4:56 PM ^
Michigan has a multitude of edge commits in this class. That is probably a factor in Rudolph flipping.
The summer has not been kind to Michigan. A bunch of recruiting losses and a flip. Still have 18 4 star commits and plenty of time to add a few more over the season. Remember they got Hillman in April.
I would be curious to see what is going in. Is it “the bag”? Or are there other factors involved?
