It's a beautiful summer evening, what are you drinking?
Well, you're not going to get a snazzy intro about life on the farm but I think we can all agree summer evenings are a time to rejoice. College football starts in 28 days but plenty of fun to be had in the meantime. What's everyone up to tonight? Drinks? BBQ? Family plans? I'm enjoying a pint of a hoppy lager right by the beach. Hope all is well.
Nothing because I don’t have power.
DTE suuuuuuuuucccckkks!
Seems like a better reason to have alcohol, no?
DTE is definitely one of those companies where the execs/higher ups are universally hated by the customers for all their bullshit, but all the workers (particularly the line workers) are largely respected.
On a related note, my dad was a lineman for DTE for like 35 years. When he died, the union sent us a nice note offering their condolences and my understanding is that they had a moment of silence for him at their meeting. It was very touching in a difficult time.
I'm sorry for your loss. Doesn't matter how long ago it was, that shit sucks. Glad you got some solace there.
Guys like your dad are the backbone of society. Underappreciated, underpaid, but essential to civilized life.
Underappreciated yes, underpaid, hopefully not. My father had cancer and lost his life to suicide a couple Christmases ago, but he made good money because of the IBEW. In fact, he helped negotiate the union contract that leads to my mother being taken care of by his pension 12 years after retirement. Not a day goes by that I don't appreciate what I was given.
Linemen make a shitload of money, most on overtime. They also know they can just leave and get the OT somewhere else if it dries up. They can work storms too in other states if they choose. Very lucrative.
Ever heard of Generac ......
Lost power, lost internet, 100mph winds. I was drinking beer but feel fairly sober now
Oh man, I so know that feeling. Chilling with a beverage with no pressing items on the task list and then . . . power goes out or drain backs up or dog throws up or something and then the need to focus wipes out the buzz.
This is the type of post from Sal that I appreciate the most. So juvenille. Whoever said that he was a overanalizer was wrong.
“overanalizer” Where have I ever indicated that I am into buttstuff?
You are allowed to leave the house, or is DTE holding you hostage? Yes, they do SUCK!!!
Just ice water here. Putting up a field of hay, and the sun is beating down.
Same. Installing oak flooring and no AC in the new house yet.
It's murder.
Doesn’t the wood need to be acclimated to an indoor dry environment before install? With no power, the wood might not acclimate until after installation.
There's no set time. It's about baseline moisture content and relative humidity. Furthermore, engineered hardwood has come a long way is extremely forgiving.
Perfect conditions are the exception more than the rule - you just don't install wood shipped from another state same-day inside a sauna and you'll generally be fine.
Double Two Hearted. I don’t actually like it that much but it’s free.
(I adore the original, really not sure why they made this. Feels like a gimmick)
I know it's heresy but I've always find the original to be a bit malty.
I like the original but can find it malty at times. Do you have the same opinion for Centennial?
"Too malty" isn't something I've ever said or thought. But then I've been waiting forever for the mega hop'd IPA trend to fade.
Nice night in Philly too. Can of Coke for me.
It's pretty hot here and we're having a game night with some friends. My dog is asleep next to me and I'm enjoying a cold drink of vodka and coke, but I might have a little tequila later.
Still feels like 102 in Chicagoland at this hour. Having a goose island full docket (although I like to switch it up, maybe a Stella next).
Been a long week, ready to unwind!
Hazy crooked tree from dark horse brewing
Guiness Draught
Just got done with stupid yardwork so I don't know what I'm eating but I'm drinking.
Coors Banquet
You on your period?
Champagne is my drink of choice, so it's High Life for right now.
I picked up a bottle of Hibiki Japanese Harmony Master's Select at the Duty Free on my way across Canada (recommendation of some tourists that were stocking up). Thinking about giving it a shot tonight. Has anyone tried it?
It's good, but I can't really tell a difference from the regular offering. I really miss the age stated hibiki.
Honestly, this is my first Harmony. It was only a $20 difference, so I took their advice.
It's good stuff. Easy to drink.
Oberon:)
Water. I actually went and bought the beer and had one opened, and then screwed the lid back on.
12 days. This shit sucks (but is awesome at the same time).
Stay strong!
I'm at my chill-out spot, the 3 Needs, having a pint of Switchback. It's a pleasant evening, and I'm feelin' fine, in no small part because deregulation means I can smoke a joint here on the outdoor deck. Thinking about hitting the jazz club soon..
Nice, what Jazz club we talking? So many have shut down its a shame, specifically The Checkerboard Lounge and Wonderful’s…
A place here called Club 126.
Diet Mountain Dew. Smoking lava cake. Just ate 200mg of blue razz flavored chewii flight gummies. The ones with the nerds in them.
The wife and I ate 2 hits of acid apiece the other night and I had more fun than I've had in years.
Couldn't imagine doing it after being an adult but much respect to you and good to see there's rockstars like you and your wife still left!
I don't do acid very often anymore. Maybe once or twice a year. Shrooms on the other hand, well I enjoy those quite often.
Honestly I prefer tripping as an adult. I'm so much more comfortable with who I am as a person so things don't ever get dark. It's basically just hours of laughter.
I'd recommend it.
Now that I think about it, I only do shrooms in the winter and spring, and have only done acid in the summer. Not by design, though.
I’ve only done shrooms on my pizza or omelet. They suck though. I never get a buzz.
Acid is the best. Have you read Michael Pollan's book on psychedelics?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_to_Change_Your_Mind?
Doing acid as an adult is such a better experience!
A notion worthy of investigation. As a UM undergrad I took a class on drugs of abuse, brain, and behavior and was therefore popular when visiting my MSU buddies bc I could advise on dosing and toxicity levels for whatever we encountered in our rambles after the Riv.
Champagne (of beer)PBR or lone star and maybe some Evan Williams BIB over ice.
