I have never read "Dune" and have a genuine question about how that world works. How do the sandworms eat enough to sustain their massive bodies? Doesn't seem like there enough people or little mice and birds for their massive caloric needs. Is there a whole ecosystem of huge prey animals down in the sand with them? From watching the first "Dune" movie, I couldn't figure it out.
My David Underwood story: I returned to A2 for B school in 2001, moved into Woodbury Gardens, and soon the power company came after me for an unpaid bill. I managed to prove that during the time period in question, it was not I living in that apartment, but rather, the prior tenants: David Underwood and Braylon Edwards.
I know UFR was the early site's calling card, but now I swear that the FFFF is the current comparative advantage over all other blogs. Alex writes these fantastic summaries, Brian uses them in his preview, and week after week, the game basically goes the way they predict. This blog's advance scouting is peerless.
I am very happy for all of these individuals! Still, I wish the selections didn't seem to be such a rote "vote for the winners" exercise. Henderson on 1st team was a surprise, Barnhart a surprise. Eichenberg as LB of the year? Balderdash. Fashanu was all hold all the time!
I agree, I'd love to hear Seth reconcile the two, as Sharpies focused on the upfield push and this guy focused on the LBs missing their gaps. Perhaps it's that the DEs shooting upfield so aggressively puts it ALL on that LB to find the correct fit, which isn't necessarily easy to do, i.e., it's him or a safety a few dozen yards later (or the end zone).
J. Chait is why it's great to be a Wolverine. He and Jane Coaston are both respected and influential in the NY/DC bubble and both are unabashedly Michigan football fans.
I always had the sense that Schlissel was weak tea. This letter makes me a lifelong fan of Santa. As a leader, once in a while, you have to be a bit of a dick. This was exquisite.
Disclosure: haven't listened. But I have heard Brian denigrate or dismiss Seth before, so I can imagine. I am huge fans of both guys, for different reasons. My theory is: when Brian is a jerk to Seth, it's because something else is going on in Brian's life and takes it out on Seth.
I do appreciate how the traditional M-hating sportswriters are all getting after it: Thamel, Schlabach, Stewie Mandel. Just waiting for a Heather Dinich article.
(I do not include Dellenger and Wetzel in this category, they may not be pro, but they aren't real haters, IMHO.)
I think you're right and we are mostly overreacting. JJ was exquisite. Corum was good, made one poor decision to not follow his blockers. I was a bit disappointed in the 2nd team offense, but probably was that they didn't let Davis Warren pass, while ECU stayed with the 9 in the box approach. CJ stokes made a cut!
I don't have a take on his effort, but did take note that he seemed to be standing there while 4 ECU guys were surrounding Corum. I think ECU flooded the box, and I suspect Hinton was not good. The UFR will be interesting!
A notion worthy of investigation. As a UM undergrad I took a class on drugs of abuse, brain, and behavior and was therefore popular when visiting my MSU buddies bc I could advise on dosing and toxicity levels for whatever we encountered in our rambles after the Riv.
That is my issue. I probably mostly agree with Ace politically; it's the lashing out at people who don't fall in line with his moral judgments that I find totally unpalatable.
Ace will always find an object to orient his petulance around. OTOH, before he blocked me I did screenshot his admission that he promised an off-the-record comment and then released it to the public. Just in case he tries to get a legitimate sportswriting job.
OTOH, the mess has led to another Ace incendiation on Twitter where he, after failing to get Sam cancelled the first time, is trying to run it back. He is so quick to assign himself the job of Moral Sheriff and then for any offenders, straight to the gallows they go. Ascenseur pour l'echafaud, as they say.
I agree with everything you said except for the first sentence! Also, my opinion might be wrong (as I tell my sons, there definitely is that one time per year that Dad is wrong...).
That's a fair point. For myself, I will watch for an actual apology, then will work on actual forgiveness (another thing that is harder than it looks). Your point about UM/OSU is also valid. I might have been over my skis a bit. Good counterbalance on your part.
The current world is very good at demanding apologies and very bad at accepting them. Seems like maybe MW did what he was accused of, made a big mistake, is paying a big price, and maybe regrets the transgression as much as the punishment. Perhaps some forgiveness is in order at some point (but he did deserve to be fired IMO, insta-fire when you get into a colleague's email).
I normally smirk derisively at "writer X loathes university Y," but I truly believe that Pete Thamel hates UM in his actual person. I have no idea why. So I am not surprised he'd write something just to try to make things worse for Michigan. He and his Long Island Lockjaw accent can go F themselves.
This is when living in Germany works in my favor, can Post Malone all alone.
Now Dug has to play 20+ min per game. If he can be decent to good in that allotment, Michigan has a chance to be decent, maybe even make the tourney. Really good start. Will get much tougher especially once coaches start to game plan to attack him. I had been very skeptical about another short no-shot PG, but it seems as though he can shoot just a bit, which puts him way ahead of Frankie and early Zavier.
I really enjoy the player tidbits. I suppose you're the only one of the MGoCrew that interacts directly with them. Good for the reminder that these are human beings that happen to be on a stage watched by millions.
I was going through the games with highly ranked UM vs. Illinois and my recommendation is: try not to fumble. Preferably, fewer than 10 times (sorry, Ty Wheatley).
Your final point times 100. Maybe the coaches got a bit worried hence the early deep shot to Andrel. He's the guy to be the #1 threat next year while the freshman wideouts continue to learn how to block.
After hearing Sam say that same thing twice in the past several weeks, I totally agree with you, and I believe it is specifically about Andrel Anthony. My guess is that he's hearing something but doesn't want to come out and say it so is making these hints.
I'm not sure that Brian and Seth are quite hearing them. Not that it matters--I hope that the COACHES are worried. I think that Andrel could be All-B1G but that he's a risk to transfer out bc he's being totally ignored. He doesn't drop or fumble---give him CJ's targets; throw him fades!
Did a little scanning at RCMB. It seems that "UM the first punch" is just accepted truth over there.
Interesting parallel---to me, anyway. "UM threw the first punch" as the lie become axiomatic truth that excuses all subsequent bad behavior. Much the same as "The election was rigged" as the lie become axiomatic truth that excuses all subsequent bad behavior.
Ain't trying to blame this on Trump. Merely an observation of a pattern of mass psychology (or mass psychopathology, if you will).
I think you're on to something. I wonder if staff hustled Green into the locker room and McBurrows got stranded with the trash.
Also, this is not on this topic, but was this the closest Brian has ever come to predicting the exact score? Variance of zero on one side and only 3 on the other...

Not easy to make a safe Hitler comment, but you guys managed it.

Castro strikes me as Dollar Store Jabril Peppers. Which is not an insult---he looks good!
Ramzy gets it in a way that Ryan Day doesn't.

So, New York and the New Yorker are different...
Great point; this season is not the one he imagined, but in a big game, he made big plays.
Perfect quotation, Seth
It was that summer of nonstop Farve and Terrell Owens that caused me to quit non-live ESPN.
Mike Sainristil. Great guy, Michigan legend. Not an All-American.

It's a ridiculous theory. BUT...the logic has some merit, bc why and how else was Stallions there?

Heckuva write-up.
Also, I vote Yes on Proposal Insert Suitable Musical Lyrics.
I agree, and if I were an ECU fan, I'd be proud that they were still salty on D in the second half---showed some team spirit. ECU has a QB problem.

Curious to see the UFR, but my take, live, was surprise that Hinton started, and belief that he was missing blocks.

Seth is the beating heart of the blog and I have great appreciation for him!
Mmm...doner. Here in Germany, they're way better about having hot peppers and spice than they used to be.
I also have never seen the movie, but have the soundtrack on wax. Great for anyone who likes chill Miles.

Someone is crabby
Real "other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?" energy
Beautifully shot and beautifully written.

comment reconsidered, ignore
Apparently one, same as UFR.
